Rugged, windswept and barren, these island landscapes generally produce single malt whiskies with strong peaty, marmite aromas. The Islands malt range from powerful, bursting with flavour notes such as the black pepper to the lighter, aromatic notes. The Isle of Islay is generally recognised for its smoky malts like the pungent, peat smoke sweetness of Lagavulin.
