Supporting a Sustainable Byron Shire Welcome to Byron Shire Council s first Sustainable Food Directory. Byron Shire is blessed with abundant sunshine, fertile soils and regular rainfall which make us a prime food growing area. We are also home to a food-aware community who embrace organic, fair trade, free-range and locally grown produce as everyday ways to reduce our ecological footprint, promote healthy lifestyles and support the transition to a low-carbon economy. Many of our local business and community enterprises are leading the way in sustainable food practices and we are pleased to showcase them in this Directory. Inside, you ll find some of our most innovative and greenminded businesses that have recognised the need to balance people, planet and prosperity.
