Pepper List 2018 We carry a beautiful selection of both sweet and hot peppers here at Sky. Peppers are a fun challenge for Pacific Northwest gardeners, and can be very rewarding. With so many colors, shapes, sizes, and flavors to choose from, some gardeners like to try at least one new variety each year. Growing Peppers The key to success with peppers is maximizing sunlight and heat. Pepper plants should be kept indoors or in greenhouses until nighttime temperatures are above 50-60. Even then, they benefit from additional protection. Try building a high tunnel out of clear plastic, or plant them in containers near a south or west-facing wall that reflects heat. Consider growing in containers if your soil drains slowly or forms clumps when wet, or if your garden beds get less than six hours of afternoon sun in the summer. Use potting soil with added organic fertilizer. Compost is too dense for containers, so save it for your garden beds. Whether growing in the ground or in containers, water thoroughly rather than often. Let the soil dry to about 1-2 inches down before watering. To produce the spiciest and most flavorful hot peppers, withhold water once the fruit begins to ripen. How to Use this List We carry over 50 varieties each of hot and sweet peppers. We hope this list will help you find the best peppers to suit your gardening style and goals. Sky Nursery 18528 Aurora Avenue North, Shoreline, WA 98133 skynursery.com (206)-546-4851 Rev. 4/26/18
