Reinhard Waldschütz, a TOP-winegrower from the Kamp Valley! The location The wine estate Waldschütz is located in Elsarn, at the southern slope of the Manhartsberg, at the entrance of the Kamp Valley. The idyllic region at the Kamp is eponymous for a significant winegrowing region, which combines so many preferences so that it can rightly be assessed as one of Austria s most exciting. A variety of soils stretches from the slopes around Austria s largest viticultural town Langenlois, up until the winegrowing border, where the Waldviertler climate takes distinctive effect, over the loess of Strass in the Strass Valley down to the alluvial land of the Danube. The good locations of the vineyards and the mild climate of the Kamp Valley spark the creation of especially quality wine. It is not without reason that the wine community Strass-Elsarn is Austria s most famous. The wine estate Waldschütz in the Strass Valley Since 4 generations, the secrets of the arts of winegrowing have been passed from the father to the son. Thus, a special relationship developed to this part of the world and the fruits it produces. Since 1994, Reinhard Waldschütz directs as trained producer of wines and cellarer the skills of the now 25-hectare big wine estate. With great commitment and together with his family, he succeeds year after year in creating natural, fruity fresh wines with typical taste for the region. The selection ranges from Grüner Veltliner (40%), Riesling (20%), Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Frühroter Veltliner and Zweigelt Barrique to Beerenauslese and Eiswein. Relatively new in the product range are the Kamptal DAC wines. DAC is the abbreviation of Districtus Austriae Controllatus, which in English means Austrian Controlled Origin. So the Kamp Valley is now a strong brand with a clear message and an unmistakable profile. Dry Grüner Veltliner or Riesling with an alcohol content ranging from a minimum of 11.5% to a maximum of 13% are the profile of the KAMPTAL DAC WINES. Wines containing more than 13% of alcohol are marketed as KAMPTAL RESERVE DAC.

Quality in the wine estate & the cellar Working close to nature in the vineyard brings about wines with fruity freshness, finesse, purity and charisma. The extreme quality control in the vineyard, like slight pruning in winter, the thinning and defoliating of the grape zone are carried out by Martina and Markus Waldschütz. In the vineyard, importance is also attached to a high number of vines (3,800-4,000 per hectare!). Moreover, the stem height is being reduced and, at the same time, the foliage wall is being increased in order to get more foliage mass and, in turn, obtain more mature grapes. At least 2-3 rounds of harvesting are part of the recipe for success. For the top products of Reinhard Waldschütz, about 3-5 healthy grapes per vine remain as long as possible for maturing. Grapes are being harvested only on cool days, pressed with little pressure due to the tannins and quickly processed. Waldschütz prefers a controlled and slow fermentation (up to 5 weeks). At the end of fermentation, an immediate racking takes place, thereafter a maturity phase follows until the end of January. Now the first filtration follows and at the end of February an early bottling in order to obtain the extreme fermentation carbonic acid. The dedicated winegrower gets to know his customers during wine tastings in the gastronomy as well as in vinotheques and by word of mouth. They should not only buy and enjoy his wines, but also know him and his family and be happy to get in contact to them.
Awards If you have success once it can be a coincidence, the second time it can be luck, when you are successful for the third time, it is knowledge, efficiency and sustainable commitment. The winegrower Reinhard Waldschütz When I was 17 years old I spent a year in a very well organized family run business in Rheinland Pfalz/Germany. My master was a highly cultivated and family-loving man. His motto was that only a winegrower having an intact family live has his mind free to produce great wines. These words had a forming influence on my future philosophy. When I came back into my parents' estate it was clear to me what sort of wine I wanted to produce. Extremly fresh wines with finesse and purity, wines communicating charisma and emotion. Today I'm succeeding in doing exactly this with the help of my wife and my son Markus. The junior winegrower Markus Waldschütz Upon successful completion of the winemaking school in Krems at the Danube, internship opportunities in the U.S., (California) and in excellent wine estates in Styria and in Feuersbrunn am Wagram followed. Since the middle of 2010, Markus Waldschütz supports the parental business and brings in his learned expertise as well as new, fresh ideas CONTACT: Weingut Waldschütz GmbH 3491 Straß, Elsarn 3, Phone +43 (0)2735 79457, Mobil 0664 1016620 Fax +43 (0)2735 79457-4, kontakt@weingut-waldschuetz.at, www.weingut-waldschuetz.at
Waldschütz, worth to be seen The new image is also a pleasure for the eyes. The wine estate Waldschütz in Straß in the Kamp Valley has been attracting the attention of experts in the field with regular international awards for years now. Most recently the winegrower from the Kamp Valley was awarded silver medals at the International Wine Challenge 2006 in London and was Winner of the Grand Cru of the leading specialist magazine A LA CARTE. Since he wanted to communicate these successes better to the outside world, the winegrower and cellarer commissioned a new corporate design for his business, focusing on the value of his products on one without being too pretentious on the other hand. Even though his wines enjoy a steadily growing popularity both in Austria and abroad he wants to maintain his fair and well proven price/performance ratio. Also an Eye Drop The Linzer Weinwunder, celebrated on March 26th 2007 with 600 invited guests in the newly renovated Lederfabrik was a welcome opportunity to present the new image. We saw many well-known and new faces at this top-event of excellent wine culture. And we saw it as confirmation of our efforts that our attractive Waldschütz caught the attention of the trade audience, says the winegrower from the Wachau, pleased with the success of his new corporate image which ranges from youthful fresh wine labels and printed forms to the new website.
With the new wine labels Waldschütz not only offers something for the delicate palate, but also for the eye. The wines of this Kamp Valley wine estate have now been positioned visually on the place they belong and where they have already been positioned for a long time in terms of taste. Recipe for success In his vineyard Reinhard Waldschütz places enormous value on natural organic processes. A great deal of work is done by hand. Pest control is managed without harmful substances via gentle methods that spare the beneficial organisms. The quality work is done all year round: from pruning in winter, thinning and defoliating of the grape zone to the reducing of the stem height in order to obtain more mature grapes. Grapes are being harvested only on cool days, pressed with little pressure and quickly processed. Only at the end of February bottling takes place in order to maintain the extreme fermentation carbonic acid. Already in 1999, the wine estate Waldschütz was honoured by the Falstaff magazine and by A LA CARTE as one of the best wine estates.
