Gray highlight: available for pre order Botanical name Common name Description Ilex decidua Paco Paco's Possumhaw Holly A single or multi trunked, native, deciduous, small ornamental tree averaging 18 x 15. Only female Possumhaws produce berries. Paco s Possumhaw is a female that is absolutely covered with gorgeous red berries all winter. Tough, drought tolerant & will take periodic wet conditions. Sun or part shade. A shelter & food source for birds. Birds have an absolute feast on the berries in early spring! Rhamnus caroliniana Carolina Buckthorn Small tree or shrub that matures to 10 15. Carolina buckthorn is prettiest under the shade of a large tree. It s creamy springtime blossoms are followed by gorgeous berries that turn red in late summer and hold this bright color for a couple of months, finally ripening to black in October. As soon as they ripen, they are devoured and treasured by several species of birds. Deciduous to almost evergreen, with leaves turning bright yellow in the fall. This is a must for any habitat garden! Not commonly available! Callicarpa americana American Beautyberry This is an outstanding 6 8 foot deciduous shrub with an open, arching form. Spring brings tiny lilac flowers borne in clusters along the leaf axils. In the fall, metallic magenta pink berries appear in tight clusters. These berries remain long into winter, and are eaten by several species of birds. Full sun to dappled shade. Drought tolerant once established. Birds! Callicarpa japonica Snow Storm Beautyberry NEW! A dramatic addition to the beautyberry family it has stunning white cream green variegated foliage, clusters of pink flowers in the summer and loads of rose purple berries in the fall. Snow Storm forms a nice compact shrub mounding to 4 x4. Prefers light shade and a moist, well drained soil. Deciduous. Beautyberries are a food source for up to 40 species of birds. (Only 1 gallon size available for pre order.) Lespedeza liukiuensis Little Volcano Little Volcano Lespedeza A graceful, deciduous shrub that erupts with bright rosy wine flowers in the fall (and normally a surprise bloom cycle in the spring). Upright, clumping branches are covered with small, dark green leaves. Forms a mound 5 tall by 8 wide. Sun. Well drained soil. Prunus sp. Hirome Dwarf Hirome Cherry A dwarf flowering & producing cherry grown as a 3 4 shrub. In very early spring, every stem is covered with pink flowers & later in the year it produces ½ red cherries that are tart but edible. The fruit is also very ornamental & is a great bird attractor. Full sun to light shade and moist, well drained soil. Buddleia davidii Compact White Compact White Butterfly Bush NEW! Elegant white form of butterfly bush. Produces 6 8 arching panicles of extremely fragrant, pure white flowers with soft yellow throats. Soft gray green undersides of the leaves complement the flowers. Outstanding 3 4 compact shrub with arching stems that blooms from late spring to fall. Deciduous. Responds well to pruning. Sun or light shade. Butterflies! Buddleia davidii Dubonnet Dubonnet Butterfly Bush A spectacular Buddleia for color, fragrance, and butterflies. Dubonnet has spikes of striking blue flowers that provides a sea of color throughout spring, summer, & fall. Average 4 6 tall. Sun or part shade. Moist, well drained soil. (Only 1 gallon available for pre order.) Calliandra emarginata Dwarf Fairy Duster This beautiful root hardy shrub is great for both garden and containers. Growing to about 2 3 tall, Dwarf Fairy Duster is covered with red powderpuff flowers that are attractive to hummingbirds, butterflies and bees. This shrub is spectacular in bloom. It has a very tropical look, but this is a very tough little shrub. Calliandras are known for having very low amounts of airborne pollen. Sun or light shade. 1

The fruit is shiny, black and is suspended below bright red sepals. The flowers attract bees and butterflies. The ripe fruit is eaten by birds. In VietNam, the yellow flowers are believed to bring good luck. Slow growing.sun. Medium size shrub or small tree. Protect from hard freezes. Erythrina crista galli Fireman s Cap A stunning root hardy tropical tree that can reach 20 tall. It blooms large 18 20 panicles of red fireman s cap shaped flowers many times through summer. Full sun. Takes wet or dry conditions. Hummingbirds! Rivina humilis Pigeonberry A unique native perennial groundcover that is almost always covered with pink and white flowers and red berries. Foliage turns burgundy in fall. Birds love the berries. Goes dormant in winter. 12 tall can be pruned back for thicker plants. Thrives and blooms in part shade. Scadoxus multiflorus Blood Lily A spectacular, naturalizing bulb from South Africa that puts on a stunning show of color in early summer. Exploding out of the ground on thick solitary stems are dazzling, 7 8 globe like flower heads consisting of up to 200 brilliant red starry flowers followed by attractive, upright, dark green, glossy spear shaped foliage. It thrives in shade gardens, is striking in large groups under trees, does beautifully in containers & as an indoor plant, & also makes an excellent cut flower. It needs a moist, well drained soil. It is poisonous if eaten, causing low toxicity. Lilium formosanum Philippine Lily A striking, hardy, naturalizing lily for the Gulf Coast area. Produces attractive evergreen mounds of dark green, liriope like foliage that extend into regal upright stalks of large, fragrant, milky white, trumpet shaped flowers in the summer. The flower stalks average 4 tall. It produces 6 to 8 flowers per stem & blooms for at least 4 weeks. Grows in sun or part shade. Anthericum sandersonea Variegata Variegated Shooting Star Lily NEW! An evergreen grass like lily that forms clumps of 12" 14" slender, slightly arching, dark green and white foliage. Produces delicate looking 18" 24" stems covered with small white star shaped flowers in bloom cycles throughout the year! It grows in full sun or light shade. Moist, well drained beds. Hippeastrum x johnsonii St. Joseph s Lily The first hybrid amaryllis that was ever produced sometime around 1790 & one of the finest amaryllis for garden culture! Unfortunately, being an old heirloom plant, it s not readily available in the trade. This outstanding Hardy Red Amaryllis is a spring bloomer producing stalks of many fragrant, bright red funnel shaped flowers with a white stripe on the inside. It has attractive, long, dark green, strap shaped foliage that fades away in fall & returns in spring. This superb performer sets little or no seed & is much more tolerant of heavy clay soils & cold weather than other amaryllis. The combination of the brilliant red flowers, the spicy fragrance, & its unbelievable toughness makes it a bulb without equal! Hippeastrum evansiae Yellow Butterfly Amaryllis A fairly rare amaryllis from the dry forests of Bolivia and the eastern foothills of the Andes where its habitat is now being used for agriculture. This is a rare color for Amaryllis in general. Pale lemon yellow flowers with a green throat are held on short stems, with each bulb often producing several flowering stems. Full sun to part shade, well drained beds of improved soil. This bulb has a place in every collector s garden. Normally blooms before the foliage comes up. Calathea louisae Hardy Calathea An attractive clump forming perennial producing lance shaped, dark green leaf blades, with red underneath, & silver brush strokes down the center. This is a root hardy variety that adds a wonderful touch of color & texture to a shade garden! Averages 2 tall & blooms small white flowers in conical spikes at the base of the plant. Great texture & foliage color. Moist, well drained. Aquilegia chrysantha Hinckley Hinckley Columbine A gorgeous evergreen native Texas perennial for shade gardens. Forms 24 mounds of bright green parsley like foliage all winter. Then in March April, produces stalks of magnificent orchid like yellow flowers for up to 6 weeks! Afternoon shade & good drainage. Sisyrinchium sp. Suwannee Suwannee Blue Eyed Grass Found on the banks of the Suwannee River, this selection produces clouds of 3/4 sky blue flowers in early May. Sisyrinchiums are not actually grasses, they re part of the iris family. Suwannee has a compact growth habit and the dense, evergreen foliage grows to 8. Fast multiplying. Shade or sun, able to take wet conditions. Stokesia laevis Peachie s Pick Peachie s Pick Stokesia Stunning! Considered the best Stoke s Aster available. Tight evergreen rosette of foliage. A multitude of compact upright flower spikes are topped with dozens of large, lavender blue flowers in early summer. Averages 18 24. Sun or part shade. Butterflies! Stokesia laevis Divinity PPAF Divinity Stokesia NEW! This somewhat new stokesia has beautiful feathery flowers that open with subtle yellow centers, soon mellowing to a pure celestial white beginning in mid spring. Evergreen in mild winters, this is a forgiving, low maintenance, native perennial that likes a little afternoon shade. Divinity stands 12 14 tall and spreads to about 18 wide in a season. Excellent cut flower and butterfly attractor. Orthosiphon stamineus Purple Cat Whiskers Super showy! Tender, shrubby, perennial (that s in the mint family) with terminal lavender flowers in heavy bloom cycles spring to fall. Responds well to pruning. Another butterfly & hummingbird nectar plant. 3 4 tall. Part shade. Root hardy in most winters. 2

Glossy foliage with striking large clusters of bright orange flowers that shoot up like large flames. It seems to bloom all the time. Averages 3 by 3. Prefers partial shade. Hummingbirds! Hymenocallis acutifolia Acutifolia or Narrow leaf Spider Lily Spider Lilies make a statement in the landscape even when not in bloom. They have glossy, rich green foliage that has a dramatic presence when planted in masses. Spider lilies white flowers are often described as looking more daffodil like than lily like. The flower form is characterized by a white central cup that is marked by six long, delicate spider like petals. They make fabulous borders and do well in containers. Prefers moist soils and will do well at the edge of water features. H. acutifolia has narrow foliage, and blooms late summer through fall. Hummingbirds & Butterflies! Ficus tikoua Sandi Leaf Fig Ivy Not the classic fig ivy this one is a tough, bold, coarsely textured ground cover for sun or part shade. Medium green, 3 5 oval shaped leaves have a marvelous sandpaper texture. Self layering, carpets an area fairly rapidly. Produces small figlets that birds might enjoy. Normally evergreen in Houston. Orbilexum pedunculatum Mountain Pea NEW! A unique, evergreen groundcover that is native to the southwestern U.S. It forms a dense mat of glossy green leaves that spread by short rhizomes it would be good for stabilizing a sunny slope. The bluish purple flower spikes occur May through July. The seeds are a nutritious treat for several species of birds. Sun to partial sun. Muehlenbeckia axillaris Nana Creeping Wire Vine NEW! Tiny dark, glossy green leaves cover wiry stems on this evergreen creeper. Great as a groundcover between stepping stones very tolerant of foot traffic. Use in hanging baskets, containers, rock gardens or train to climb up a trellis for a unique dense screen. Drought tolerant, deer resistant sun or partial shade. Curcuma General information Curcumas are day length sensitive, and will go dormant in November. They will return in May as soon as the temps heat up for another fabulous display. Height varies by variety. Slowly multiplies into a beautiful clump. Curcuma x Emerald Chocozebra Emerald Chocozebra Siam Tulip Ginger This true collector species has the same fabulous foliage of the species, but the inflorescence is a spike of dramatic apple green bracts with chocolate bronze stripes at the base of the bracts and a dash of chocolate in the throat. Lavender flowers can be found deep within the bracts. The bract spike is long lasting and makes a wonderful cut flower. Prefers partial sun to shade. Curcuma cordata x curcuma alismatifolia Ladawan Ginger Excellent as a focal plant in the landscape or in containers. Eye catching, long lasting 18 24 flower stalks with pink bracts and yellow flowers in late summer and fall. Makes a long lasting cut flower. Pleated, lance shaped foliage averages 2 3 tall. Prefers partial sun to light shade & a moist, well drained soil. Globba winitii Grandiflora Giant Pink Dancing Lady Ginger This stunning addition to the Dancing Ladies family produces a much showier bloom than its delicate sister. She produces long, gracefully arching panicles of pink bracts and tiny yellow flowers that seem to dance in the air! The bracts start out white and turn to a rich dark pink. They bloom all through the summer into fall. Grows 2 tall with long, lance shaped leaves on short stems. Will go dormant in winter and reappear each spring. Multiplies. Part shade to shade. Moist, well drained soil. Farfugium japonicum Cristata Crested Leaf Leopard Plant NEW! Wild, wonderful foliage on this low mounding, evergreen perennial! It forms rounded 20 x 24 mound of crested, frilled fans of grey green foliage rimmed with pink highlights and is topped with 24 stalks of yellow daisy like flowers in the fall. It adds great texture and color to a shade garden during the fall holiday season. Shade and a moist, well drained soil. Contrasts beautifully with ferns and other fine textured plants in a shade garden. Butterflies! (Formally: Ligularia tussilaginea Cristata ). Clerodendron wallichii White Waterfalls Clerodendron Extremely glossy, dark green, tropical looking foliage. Incredible 10 12 weeping panicles of soft creamy white flowers with red calyxes in the fall. Flowers are reminiscent of Blue Butterfly Bush in shape. Responds well to pruning and can be grown as a shrub or small tree. Grows 5 9 tall. Light shade or sun. Gorgeous! Hypoestes aristata Blue Ribbon Bush A beautiful upright shrubby perennial to 3 or 4 tall. Produces an intense show of lavender purple, ribbon like flowers late fall to mid winter. Root hardy in most winters. Hummingbirds & butterflies. Sun to part shade. Salvia miniata Salvia Miniata Bright red, tubular flowers summer to fall on a tropical looking salvia 2 3 tall. Responds well to pruning; gets fuller and more floriferous! This salvia thrives in partial shade. Hummingbirds! Salvia azurea Little Boy Blue Dwarf Pitcher Sage NEW! A compact seedling selection of our native East Texas salvia brought to us by famed plantsman Greg Grant. Sky blue flowers are produced in masses all summer long. Salvia leucantha Mexican Bush Sage A beautiful, upright growing 4 salvia with spikes of velvety purple bracts & white flowers. Blooms a little in spring & summer & has its most spectacular display in fall. It s grey green foliage is an attractive accent. Prefers full sun. A must for hummingbirds!
