FRANCE EXCHANGE IN DUNKERQUE AND VISIT OF PARIS February 16 to 25, 2018 10 DAYS / 8 NIGHTS

DAY 1: USA - BRUSSELS (Friday) Fly overnight to Brussels. DAY 2: PARIS - DUNKERQUE (Saturday) Welcome to Brussels! Your French Forum Tour Manager will greet you at the airport. Transfer by private motor coach to the French High School in Dunkerque, in the Nord departement of France (county). While living with a host family, you will find that French is more than just a textbook language. It becomes a living and working language, spoken and written daily. You will eat French food (at the standard French meal times), meet French people and have an excellent opportunity to practice your French in real-life situations. Enjoy your first evening with your host family. DAY 3: SUNDAY WITH FAMILY (Sunday) DAY 4: EXCHANGE PROGRAM (Monday) Breakfast with your family before going to school with your pen pal. Attend school with your pen pals. Lunch at the High School. Afternoon activities and workshops organized at the school during your visit (to be confirmed with the host school). Dinner and evening with your family. DAY 5: DAY TRIP TO BRUGES (Tuesday) After breakfast with your family, board your private motor coach and drive to Bruges in Belgium. With medieval rooftops that step up to the sky, a history that spans back to the Vikings, and canals that credit the city as one of Europe s Venice of the North, the enjoyment expands to every sense. Start your day visiting the Market Square. It is the heart of medieval Bruges. In the center is a statue celebrating the heroes, Jan Breydel and Pieter de Coninc, of the Battle of the Golden Spurs in 1302 when a French Belgium was forced to recognize the Flemish emancipation. Then, you will enter the Belfry tower (Belfort), built in 1220, with additions in 1240 and reconstruction after it burned in 1280, 1491, and 1781. Visit the Gruuthuse house and museum. The house still holds many of their treasures from as far back as the thirteenth century. Next you will enter Saint John s Hospital (now a museum). This building was built in 1188 as a hospital for pilgrims and passersby in need of medical and religious attention before their deaths. It now houses works of some of the best Flemish artists. Finish your day visit by walking to the St. John s House Mill and the Koelewei Mill. Built in 1770 and 1765 they are both functioning grain mills and museums. Drive back to Dunkerque for dinner and night accommodation with your family.

DAYS 6 & 7: EXCHANGE PROGRAM (Wednesday and Thursday) Breakfast with your family before going to school with your pen pal. Attend school with your pen pals. Lunch at the High School. Afternoon activities and workshops organized at the school during your visit (to be confirmed with the host school). Dinner and evening with your family. DAY 8: DUNKERQUE - PARIS (Friday) Today, say goodbye to your host families and drive to Paris in your private motor coach. Upon arrival meet your French Forum Tour Manager and drop your bags at your hotel. After some free time for lunch, stroll down the most famous avenue of the capital, the Champs-Elysées. See the Arc de Triomphe to admire the view and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Walk through le Trocadéro and view la Ville Lumière from the third floor of the Eiffel Tower. Afterwards, board a glass-topped Bateau Mouche and enjoy a refreshing cruise on the Seine River. Have dinner at a local restaurant. Enjoy a night stroll of the illuminated Paris. Overnight accommodation in Paris. DAY 9: PARIS (Saturday) This morning after breakfast, enter the Musée du Louvre. The Louvre in Paris is the world s best-known, biggest, and busiest museum. Its famous collection of art and antiquities includes the Mona Lisa but also 35,000 works of art on display in 300 rooms. At lunch time, learn how the French baguette are made visiting a local boulangerie. This afternoon, visit the Gothic Cathédrale Notre-Dame. Climb the Towers to experience the view as well as a glimpse of the famous gargoyles. Later, head up to the highest point in Paris: Montmartre, known locally as La Butte). Climb the steps to reach the Sacré-Cœur, Montmartre s hilltop church and most famous landmark. Enjoy a fondue dinner in Montmartre. Overnight accommodation in Paris. DAY 10: RETURN (Sunday) Transfer to the Paris airport for your return flight home. A bientôt et bon voyage!

EXCHANGE PROGRAM An exchange program is an excellent alternative to the classic student tour as it offers the opportunity for students to fully immerse themselves in a different culture, practice and improve their knowledge of a foreign language, and make international connections and friends. The Exchange Program is organized between Milford High School in Milford and Le Lycée Notre Dame des Dunes in Dunkerque. The conditions of this exchange have been agreed upon between the two schools. Note that the number of pupils participating in the exchange may differ between the two schools. Forum cannot guarantee that both schools have the same number of participants. However, additional hosting families will be found in the case that one school does not have the same number as the other school. LYCÉE NOTRE DAME DES DUNES 60 Rue du Sud, 59140 Dunkerque, France https://www.ndd-dk.com/ HOSTING A FOREIGN STUDENT When participating in an exchange, families are expected to treat their guest in the same manner that they would like their son or daughter to be treated by their exchange partner and their family when they participate in the other side of the exchange. This is the basic reciprocal agreement of the exchange partner families. The main focus of the host family is to provide meals and lodging to the foreign student, as well as spend time with the student so they can have an authentic experience and better understand a new culture. This gives them the opportunity to see how life in the USA compares to their life at home, as well as practice their foreign language skills in real life situations. The student exchange form provides all necessary information about your guest, including their likes, dislikes, a bit of information about their day to day family life/routine, as well as information about any allergies and emergency contact details.
