How many sports bars do you know of that serve $1 PBR s (Pabst Blue Ribbon if you really need to ask) and high end sake? I ll give you a second to think.. Wingz and Spiritz is downtown Winston- Salem s newest and most diverse sports bar. At Wingz and Spiritz you can expect Americana with a twist of international flare. Open Wednesday thru Friday for lunch and open 7 days for dinner, Wingz and Spiritz is quickly becoming known for their great food, especially their wings. Owner Souphab Daohering is so confident that his wings are the best in the state, that if you do not agree with him, he does not want you to come back. But the wings speak for themselves with 5 different levels of hotness. Daohering wants his wings to maintain constant heat throughout the meal. If it is hot, it will stay hot, if it is mild the heat will constantly stay mild and the heat will linger. I try to get more information on his secret and he replies, A lot of hard work. But I do know he experimented with multiple kinds of peppers and has 6 to 8 different homemade sauces at any given time. by: Louis Money Not into wings? Not to worry, there is plenty of other great food on the menu and stuff for the kids as well. So sports bar? Yes! But it s a sports bar with an edge, class, fun, and something unexpected. Wingz and Spiritz is also affordable and family friendly. Daohering thinks downtown Winston-Salem needed a new place for sales reps to go when they got off work, and he knows a lot about Winston- Salem. Daohering has done a lot for charities such as the United Way, the local YMCA, local schools and churches, and has done a lot for the local art community. You might also recognize him from Downtown Thai. Downtown Thai is widely known as being the best place to go in Winston- Salem for not only Thai, but sushi and Vietnamese food. Upscale, yet not as expensive as you would think. Downtown Thai is only about $2 more per meal than your average sushi restaurant, though it greatly exceeds your average sushi joint. Average sushi joints do not hand polish the silverware and starch the linens, and they cannot offer the same quality of food and service that Downtown Thai does So there you go Triad, one local favorite and one soon to be local favorite. And I know a little something about $1 PBR s and sake. 336events 11

Featured Local Artist Scott Harris by Jim Tedder Scott Harris is an artist and sculptor residing in Greensboro, and is gaining popularity throughout the southeast. Harris has developed his own unique style of art utilizing aluminum sheet metal as his canvas. The metal is prepared for paint by sanding and grinding, which creates swirling patterns and designs in the surface. Then warm colors are applied to produce the distinctive contrasting effects prevalently seen in his works. Harris earned a BA in Visual Arts at Brevard College, where he first began experimenting with paint on aluminum. As the process evolved, he discovered the reflective quality of the material added depth and movement to his art. Presented by 411 W. 4th St. Winston-Salem www.communityartscafe.com Harris is heavily influenced by Claude Monet, the French impressionist. While in college, he spent two weeks in France, with one week staying in Monet s home town of Giverny. While there, Harris studied under family friend and art teacher Gale Bennett. As part of Bennett s course his students are given time to walk in Monet s Garden after it is closed to the public. On one particular day Scott had the opportunity to spend some time alone in the garden, which was very inspirational. Harris has had his works commissioned Corporately by companies such as Wake Medical Complex, Campbell University, Chase Bank, Tanger Outlets & the Durham Convention center to name a few. His works have been on exhibit in numerous solo & group shows, both regionally and as far as California. Galleries representing Harris span the local region as well as the markets of Atlanta, Nashville & Charleston. The works of Scott Harris are also available at his website, harrisdesignstudios.com. 336events 15

by Teddy Burriss - Networking Strategist Face-to-face networking is not the only way to network anymore. Despite the fact that I am a very active social networker and I enjoy engaging on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, etc, I will stand on the tallest mountains and shout this very deliberate and honest statement, "Networking in real life, face-to-face, trumps social networking every single day of the year." I believe this and live it every day. Yes, I learn new ideas and make lots of great connections that turn into friends and real relationships through my social networking activity. I actually make money because of the relationships I create and nurture on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Google+. However, I would rather meet someone in real life at a networking event, a coffee shop, or deli than I would through social networking platforms, if I can. But because of our fast paced world and our continually expanding networks of people beyond our cities, regions, and even states, social media are vital networking tools. If we want to be able to compete in this environment, we must accept these new social networking tools. Here are five steps that can help us get benefit from our social networking and will add value to our face-to-face networking as well. #1 - While attending networking events and collecting the business cards that we know people will share with us, let them know that we are also social networkers. Tell them that we ll connect with them on LinkedIn, Twitter, Google+, etc, if they are also social networkers and use these tools. #2 - When we get back to our offices after a networking event, immediately go to our social media platforms and look for the people we just met. Invite them to connect wherever relevant to us and them. and useful information we found online or ask them if there is anything we can do to help them. Better yet, introduce them to another one of our other social networking connections. This is called nurturing our connections and it s an important part of relationship building. #5 - Finally, when we re at networking events, say hello to our new real life and social networking contact. Ask them, "Who else do you suggest I meet, in real life and/or through social networking?" This question is vital if we want to continue expanding our network. Face-to-face networking always trumps social networking. However, we need to use social networking alongside real life networking if we are going to be successful in this new environment. This is the 3rd article in this 336 Events Networking Education Series. You can find all of these articles online at www.ncwiseman.com/336events. This series is brought to us by Teddy Burriss, a world renowned Networking Strategist. Teddy teaches "Networking for Mutual Benefit" and "Building Relationships through Social Media." Teddy is an accomplished author, public speaker, avid social media engager and blogger. If you want to learn more about Networking for Mutual Benefit or Building Relationships through Social Media. You can find Teddy s Book Networking for Mutual Benefit on Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble. Contact Teddy Call: 336-283-6121 Email: TLBurriss@teddyburriss.com Follow: www.ncwiseman.com #3 - After they respond and connect with us, send a message thanking them for the social network connection. Where relevant and mutually beneficial, invite them to get together for a one-onone in the near future. #4 - Don t stop here. Periodically reach out to our new social networking connections and at the very least say hello. Maybe share some relevant
