Making an extra effort to eat healthy foods and be physically active will benefit you as you grow and age. Important things to remember: 1. Start the day with a healthy breakfast to refuel and energize your body. 2. Ask your parents to help plan one meal each week and request to eat together as a family as often as possible. 3. Eat slowly. It takes 20 minutes for your brain to register that you are full. 4. Eat more vegetables and fresh fruits. Aim for a total of 2 cups of fruit and 2 1/2 cups of vegetables every day. Eat a rainbow of colorful fruits and vegetables. 5. Eat more whole grains (e.g., oats, brown rice, rye, crackers, whole-wheat pasta). Try to eat at least 3 ounces of whole grains every day. 6. Drink plenty of fluids. Choose water, low-fat or nonfat milk and low calorie or diet beverages. 7. Eat a variety of foods. Serve your plate the MyPlate way!! 8. Be physically active 60 minutes each day as youth. Robin B. Landry Area Nutrition Agent Assumption Parish LSU AgCenter Dear Parents, Members and Leaders, Thanksgiving is only a few weeks away.
