City of London Distillery In the 18th century there were gin distilleries and gin shops on every street of the City of London, fuelling the infamous Gin Craze. A series of Acts of Parliament and high taxation steadily put these out of business and the last distillery in the City of London closed in 1825. No gin was made in the City for the next 187 years. This changed in 2012, when the City of London Distillery opened. Our copper stills, named Elizabeth, in celebration of our Queen, and Jennifer and Clarissa after the BBC's Two Fat Ladies, are set behind floor-to-ceiling bomb-proof glass. They ve been busily producing our five award-winning gins ever since: City of London Dry Gin, Christopher Wren Gin, City of London Old Tom Gin, City of London Sloe Gin & Square Mile Gin. As well as making gin, we also welcome visitors to enjoy a drink in the COLD cocktail bar over-looking the stills and to participate in one of our wonderful Gin Experiences : distillery tours & gin tastings and distilling classes.
