Global Hazelnut Project OBJECTIVE Help improve the quality (less defects, higher ratio kernel/in-shell) of hazelnuts by helping prevent diseases and pests, particularly the damage caused by BMSB and other cimice insects (e.g. the filbert bud mite Phytoptus avellanae, the Gonocerus acuteangulatus, the Palomena prasina, and the nut weevil Curculio nucum). HOW? Industry cooperation. International think tank for problem solving. Monitoring the incidence of the stink bug and weather conditions. 12
