Serve Day Project Guide

We re so glad you re leading a Summer Small Group! One of our favorite things about the summer semester is that it ends with Serve Day, an exciting and impactful day of service. This year s Serve Day is July 14, so mark your calendar. Together, your group will choose a serve project based on the talents and resources within your group, and you can use this guide to help you make plans for a successful Serve Day. We re grateful to be part of this semester and Serve Day alongside you! THE SMALL GROUPS TEAM

The vision of Serve Day is for us, the local church, to go into our communities and love our neighbors. Thousands of people will take on practical projects, and through these acts of service, we hope people s hearts will be opened to the love of Jesus.

SERVE DAY VISION For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. GALATIANS 5:13-14 ESV For even the son of man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. MARK 10:45

TIMELINE JUNE 3 WEEK 1 Summer Small Group Semester Begins Start discussing project ideas with your group. JUNE 10 WEEK 2 Project registration opens at churchofthehighlands.com. JUNE 24 WEEK 4 Secure project resources. JULY 1 WEEK 5 Review project plans and roles. Serve Day stations at each campus are available for questions and information. JULY 8 WEEK 6 Serve shirt distribution after each service at all campuses. JULY 14 SERVE DAY

Project Planning Steps

PROJECT STEPS 1 STEP ONE Choose a Project Discuss the following questions with your group to help decide on a Serve Day project. Who in your neighborhood has a need? What business or organization within your sphere of influence could use a blessing? What are some areas you re passionate about? What serve opportunities best suit our group s skills and abilities? (Prayer, worship, teaching, physical labor, etc.) What resources do we have access to? Once your group has discussed the options, decide together on the best project for your group.

PROJECT STEPS 2 STEP TWO Plan Your Project Familiarize your group with the individual or organization you re serving. Determine if your project has the capacity for others to serve with your group on Serve Day, and if so, make your group public when registering. Register your project at churchofthehighlands.com. Download the new Serve Day app. Make a list of preparations and assign responsibilities according to each group member s skills and gifts. Make sure all group members have access to project details.

PROJECT STEPS 3 STEP THREE Serve Meet your group the morning of Serve Day ready to serve! Pray first and tune in to Saturday Prayer at 9 am at churchofthehighlands.com to hear a message from Pastor Chris. Love people. Have fun! Post photos on social media and tag them #ServeDay18.
