INTRODUCTION The most important benefit from making our own skincare products is that we can control what we are putting in, using natural organic chemical free ingredients and avoid the harmful ones that are common in commercial products. Preparing homemade facial scrubs and masks can be fun, and is probably the best way to maintain young and healthy skin with minimum effort. Many of these ingredients could be found commonly in our kitchen, so you would never have to spend a bomb on these natural beauty recipes that follows. While these recipes does not contain any artificial fragrances, colors, preservatives etc, please be beware if you have a known food allergy you might be allergic to using that particular food ingredient in the skin care recipes. You can test a small area for skin sensitivity before using the mixture on your face. 3

BASIC INGREDIENTS Yogurt is one of the best homemade beauty ingredients, as it's full of vitamins, protein and probiotics. The lactic acid which is a natural alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA) helps exfoliate and smooth skin. When used as a facial mask, yogurt moisturizes, fights acne, prevents premature aging and reduces discoloration. Bulgarian Rose Water help stimulate blood circulation, and helps heals scars, minor infections and damaged skin. It is a natural milk antiseptic that helps to relieve acne, insect bites and sunburns. Oats are soothing and gentle on the skin, act as very good cleansers and works very well for dry and irritated skin. It alleviates irritated skin, rashes and other conditions that cause itching. It is an excellent ingredient in scrubs and masks for all skin types including acne-prone and sensitive skin. Cucumbers contain a variety of beneficial minerals and are rich in fiber. The silica which is found in cucumber's skin is an essential component of healthy connective tissue. Its high water content makes it naturally hydrating and is often used to improve the complexion and health of the skin. Cucumbers have natural ascorbic acid and caffeic acid thus it helps to reduce swelling under the eyes and helps skin to heal from several 4

conditions such as sunburn, inflammation and eczema. Raw potatoes are excellent ingredient for skin care, are rich in minerals such as potassium, sulfur and phosphorous, as well as vitamins and antioxidant compounds. It also helps to control and prevent acne, pimples and blackheads and sooth inflammation. Avocados are full of vitamin C, C and E, beta carotene and packed with natural oils and protein. It suits most skin types. Eggs can help smooth lines and prevent fine wrinkles. Egg whites are great for firming the skin and are used in a lot of anti-aging face masks. Olive oil is nourishing and helps smoothes skin. It is full of polyphone antioxidants which could help to undo the damage of sun, free radicals and pollution. Aloe Vera gel is perfect for all skin types and soothes skin effectively, reducing inflammation, sunburns and rashes. It can help with acne due to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, and allows the skin to heal naturally with minimal scarring. It doesn't leave your skin greasy thus it makes a great moisturizing agent in face masks. White clay helps to draw impurities from the skin and unclogs pores. 5

Almonds are rich in vitamin B complex and vitamin E, and do wonders and add shine to your skin. Sugar is a good exfoliating agent and circulation stimulator. Lemons contain anti-bacterial and antioxidant properties which protect skin from free radical damage and repair cells and accelerate cell regeneration. They are great for lightening dark spots on the skin GENERAL GUIDELINES Pull your hair back by tying it or using a hair band so it doesn't get into the face when face mask is being applied. Remove your makeup completely Wash your skin clean before applying a facial mask. Exfoliate with natural homemade recipes for best results. Apply masks gently with a soft brush or your fingertips on your face, avoid the eye area as the skin could get sensitive. Prepare proportionate mask for one-time use as fresh masks work best. Remember the ingredients you are using contain no preservatives. Relax; turn on your favorite music while you have your mask on. Enjoy! 6 6

FACE SCRUBS Honey Olive Oil Scrub 1/2 teaspoon Honey 1 tablespoon Olive Oil 1 tablespoon Sugar Mix honey and olive oil well in a small bowl. Add sugar to the mixture and stir well. Wet your face, apply the mask onto skin then rinse with warm water. Honey Lemon Scrub 1 tablespoon honey 1 teaspoon lemon juice 1 teaspoon sugar Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl. Scrub face with mixture for one minute then rinse face with cool water. Olive Oil Salt Scrub 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 teaspoon fine sea salt Mix both ingredients together, scrub face for 2 minutes then wash with warm water. 7 7

FACE SCRUBS Almond Scrub 1 tablespoon yogurt 1 teaspoon finely ground almonds 2 drops Bulgarian Rose Essential Oil Mix well into a paste and scrub mixture on face for 2 minutes. Rinse skin with warm water. Oatmeal Bran Scrub 1 tablespoon oatmeal bran 1 tablespoon yogurt 1 teaspoon lemon Combine ingredients and mix well in a small bowl. Apply mask and leave for 1-2 minutes. Rinse scrub off with lukewarm water. Coffee Scrub 1 teaspoon finely ground coffee Half teaspoon olive oil Mix both ingredients, apply gently to face and massage in circular motion with finger tips. Rinse with warm water. 8

FACE SCRUBS Tomato Scrub 1 small tomato 1 teaspoon fine granulated sugar Mash tomato into pulp and mix with sugar. Massage onto face for 2 minutes then rinse off with lukewarm water Oatmeal Aloe Vera Scrub 2 tablespoon ground oatmeal 1 teaspoon honey Half teaspoon olive oil Half teaspoon Aloe Vera gel 1 teaspoon water Mix all ingredients in a small bowl. Apply to face and neck in circular strokes. Leave for a minute then rinse with cool water and pat dry. 9

Strained Yogurt Mask 5 tablespoon yogurt 1 slice of white bread Place bread in a plate, spread yogurt on it evenly and leave in fridge for few hours or overnight. In the morning, take the strained yogurt and spread it on your face. Leave it on for 20 minutes then rinse off. This is a Bulgarian ancient family recipe used for years. Yogurt and Parsley Mask 5 tablespoon strained yogurt 2 teaspoon fresh, finely-cut parsley Using the Strained Yogurt Mask method (see above), mix parsley with strained yogurt. Apply on your face for 20 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water. Whitening Yogurt Mask 2 tablespoon plain yogurt 1 teaspoon oats finely ground Mix yogurt and oats well and spread on face and neck. After mask goes dry wash with warm water. 10 10

Aloe Vera Yogurt Mask 2 tablespoon plain yogurt 1 teaspoon Aloe Vera gel Mix both ingredients well and apply to face. Leave on for 10-15 minutes then rinse off with lukewarm water. Skin Brightening Lemon Yogurt Mask 1 tablespoon plain yogurt 1 teaspoon lemon juice Mix both ingredients well. Apply mask, leave on for 8-10 minutes then rinse off with warm water. Olive Oil Anti-Aging Mask 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 tablespoon lemon juice Mix both ingredients well. Leave mask on face for 10 minutes then rinse off. Apply twice a week for best results. Bulgarian Rose Water Mask 2 tablespoon oatmeal 1 tablespoon rose water 11

1 tablespoon honey 1 teaspoon yogurt 2 drops of Bulgarian Rose essential oil Combine all ingredients except rose oil and stir well till mixture becomes creamy. Add rose oil last, mix again then apply on face. Leave on for 10 minutes. When the mask starts to dry, rinse skin well with water. Purifying Rose Water Clay Mask 2 teaspoon white clay 2 teaspoon rose water 1 drop Bulgarian Rose essential oil Mix rose water and white clay. Add rose oil last to the mixture. Apply to face and gently wash off as the mask starts to dry. Pear Mask 1 ripe pear 1 teaspoon sour cream 1 teaspoon grapefruit juice Peel pear, cut to small pieces and mash it well with fork. Add sour cream and grapefruit juice. Apply on face and leave it for 15 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water. 12

Honey Pear Mask 1 ripe pear 1 tablespoon honey 1 teaspoon sour cream Peel pear and cut it into small pieces, mash it well with fork into smooth paste. Mix with honey and sour cream. Spread mixture evenly onto face and leave it on for 10 minutes. Cucumber Toning Mask 3-4 leaves of fresh mint Half a cucumber 1 egg white Peel cucumber and blend it with mint leaves into puree. Whip egg white and add to cucumber mixture. Apply mask evenly on your face for 20 minutes then rinse off. Cucumber Honey Mask Half cucumber 1 egg white 1 teaspoon olive oil 1 teaspoon honey 2 tablespoon finely ground oats 13

Mix all ingredients and blend well till mixture becomes smooth paste. Apply thick layer of the mask to face and neck for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water. Moisturizing Cucumber Mask 1 teaspoon nonfat milk powder 1 quarter peeled cucumber 1 tablespoon plain yogurt 2 drops of Bulgarian Rose essential oil Blend first three ingredients and mix well until creamy. Add rose oil last and mix well. Leave on face for 15 minutes then rinse off. Coffee Cocoa Mask 1 teaspoon finely ground coffee beans powder 1 teaspoon cocoa powder 1 tablespoon milk Mix ground coffee and cocoa powder, add milk and stir till creamy texture. Spread mixture on face, avoid eye and mouth area. Leave for 5 minutes and rinse off with warm water. 14

Firming Coffee Mask 1 teaspoon used coffee grounds 1 teaspoon honey 1 teaspoon sour cream 2 egg whites Whip egg whites well, add sour cream, honey and coffee. Spread on face for 10 minutes, avoiding eye and mouth area. Raw Potato Mask 1 medium potato 1 teaspoon plain flour 1 teaspoon plain yogurt Grate potato, and strain it with a cheese cloth. Mix pulp well with flour and yogurt. Leave on face for 15 minutes. Clean mask off with wet tissue and rinse with water. Cucumber Potato Mask 1 medium raw potato Half cucumber 1 egg yolk 1 tablespoon yogurt 15

Peel and blend potato & cucumber, add 1 egg yolk and 1 tablespoon yogurt and mix into fine paste. Apply on clean face and keep it on for 20 minutes. Rinse with warm water. Egg Yolk Mask 1 egg yolk Half teaspoon honey 10 drops lemon juice Half teaspoon finely ground oats 1 drop Bulgarian Rose Essential Oil Beat egg yolk with honey, add lemon juice and rose oil, add oats to thicken the mixture. Spread mask on face for 15 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water. Cucumber and Strawberry Mask Half cucumber 2-3 strawberries 1 teaspoon plain yogurt 1 teaspoon oats bran Mix all ingredients & blend to creamy mixture. Spread on face till mask is dry. Wash off with cool water. Strawberry Face Mask 3 strawberries 16

Half banana 1 teaspoon honey Mix all ingredients in a blender and blend till smooth and creamy. Apply to clean face for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with warm water. Acne Clearing Mask Half cup strawberries 1 teaspoon yogurt Mash strawberries and mix well with yogurt. Spread on clean face for 15 minutes then rinse off. Strawberry & Oats Mask 2 large strawberries 1 teaspoon finely ground oats 1 teaspoon honey Blend all ingredients until mixture become paste-like. Spread on face for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with cool water. Banana Mask 1 banana 1 teaspoon honey 1 teaspoon plain yogurt 17

Mash banana, add the rest of the ingredients and mix well. Leave mask on for 15 minutes then rinse with cold water. Calming Oats Mask 1 tablespoon finely ground oats 1 teaspoon olive oil 1 teaspoon whole milk Mix all ingredients well till the mixture is paste-like. Apply mask onto skin and leave it for 5-10 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water. Almond Mask 3 teaspoon almond flour or finely ground almonds 1 teaspoon honey 1 teaspoon sour cream Mix all ingredients with warm water and apply to face for 15 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water. Apple Anti-wrinkle mask 1 apple 1 teaspoon lemon juice 1-2 drops Rose essential oil 18

Peel apple, cut to small pieces, and pulse with lemon juice until finely pureed. Add rose oil and apply to face for 20 minutes. Rinse with cool water. For best results, apply once a week. Honey Apple Mask Half apple 1 teaspoon oatmeal 1 teaspoon honey Grate and mash apple, mix with oatmeal and honey and stir well. Spread on face and leave it till mask is dry completely. Rinse off with lukewarm water. Honey Avocado Mask Half Avocado 2 teaspoon honey 1 teaspoon lemon juice Mash avocado until smooth consistency, then add the rest of the ingredients and stir to a smooth paste. Spread mask on for 15 minutes. Rinse well with warm water. 19

Avocado Mask with Rose Oil 1 ride avocado 5-6 drops of lemon juice 2-3 drops of Rose essential oil Mash one ripe avocado with lemon juice and mix till smooth. Add rose oil and mix well. Apply on skin for 15-20 minutes and rinse off with cool water. Nourishing Avocado Mask Half avocado 1 tablespoon honey 1 tablespoon apple vinegar 1 tablespoon olive oil Mix avocado, honey and apple vinegar well, add olive oil last and stir well. Massage into face and leave it on for 30 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water. Tomato & Avocado Mask Half Tomato 1 Avocado 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1 teaspoon cornstarch 20

Mash avocado and tomato, mix them together and add lemon & cornstarch. Mix all ingredients well and apply thick layer on face. Leave mask on for 30 minutes. Honey and Milk Mask 1 teaspoon honey 3 teaspoon milk Half cucumber 5 drops of lemon juice Mix all ingredients together. Gently massage mask onto face. Leave on for 15-20 minutes then rinse off with water. Firming Face Mask 2 egg whites 1 tablespoon yogurt Whip both ingredients together until smooth consistency. Apply mask on face for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water. Honey and Clay Mask 1 tablespoon white clay 1 tablespoon honey 1 teaspoon warm water 21

1 teaspoon olive oil Mix clay and honey with a little warm water. Add olive oil and stir well. Apply on face for 20 minutes. Rinse with cold water. White Clay Mask 2 tablespoon oatmeal 1 tablespoon white clay 3 tablespoon milk Boil oatmeal, cool and mix well with clay and milk. Apply on face for 20 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. Lifting Honey & Clay Mask 1 tablespoon honey 2 tablespoon lemon juice 1 tablespoon white clay Mix all ingredients well. Apply mask on face and allow it to dry. Wash off with cool water. Anti-Aging Red Wine Mask 1 egg white 2 tablespoon red wine 1 tablespoon honey 22

Mix egg white, red wine and honey until smooth consistency. Spread mask on clean face for 15 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water. Wheat Bran Mask 2 tablespoon honey 3 tablespoon wheat bran Mix honey and wheat bran well to form a paste. Spread mask on face and leave it on for 30 minutes. Rinse face with warm water. Peach Mask 1 ripe peach 1 egg white Mash peach and whip egg white. Mix both ingredients well. Apply to face and leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse with cool water. Peach Honey Mask 1 ripe peach 1 tablespoon honey 1 tablespoon oats bran Blend peach and honey; add oats bran to thicken into paste. Apply to face for 15 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water. 23
