We love our plants and we love happy hour, too. So...a mix of botanicals and libations just seemed to be a natural fit for this year s PlantHaven Culture Guide. Our signature plants deserve signature cocktails; we paired up with our friends at Rumfish y Vino in Ventura, CA to design some custom refreshments for you. The following six plants are definitely smash hits for this year s PlantHaven Portfolio. We ve included the growing advice you need to turn a successful crop and help beautify the world. After all the hard work of growing perfect plants, we invite you to take an evening; relax and enjoy one of the cocktail recipes here from Rumfish y Vino. Grow. Stir. Sip. Repeat. TANGERINE SPICED OLD FASHIONED 2.0 oz Buffalo Trace Bourbon 1 small bar spoon of cane sugar 4 dashes of tangerine spice bitters 1 dash of angostura bitters orange and lemon zest garnish Mix bourbon, cane sugar, and bitters in an old-fashioned glass until sugar is dissolved. Add a single large ice cube, then garnish with orange peel and lemon zest. Kaleidoscope Abelia x grandiflora Kaleidoscope Abelia is as versatile as it is colorful, with chameleon-like foliage that changes from season to season; from golden yellow and fresh bright green in spring to orange-red and cranberry tones in fall and winter. RUMFISH SPRITZER 2.0 oz lemongrass infused rum splash soda float of prosecco Fill each glass with 2 ounces of lemongrass infused rum over ice, and add a splash of soda. Top up with prosecco and serve garnished with a lemon twist. HILLIER Porcelain Blue Corydalis x flexuosa Truly something special for the garden, this Corydalis produces an abundance of highly fragrant clusters of long-spurred bright azure flowers on a very wellbranched plant. Compact and free flowering, it blooms nonstop from spring through autumn; not suffering from full sun or summer s heat like traditional varieties. In addition to the bright aqua blue flowers, the plant boasts very attractive foliage in blue-green hues along with bronze tones on dark stems. Porcelain Blue is sure to be one of the most attractive perennial plants for sun or shade gardens. DRAGON FRUIT CAIPIROSKA 3 pieces of lime bar spoon of sugar 2.0 oz dragon fruit infused vodka 2-inch chunk of dragon fruit Using a muddler or the handle of a wooden spoon, lightly crush limes, dragon fruit, and sugar in a 16-once mixing glass or a cocktail shaker to release juice press limes just firmly enough to release juice but not bitter oil from the peel. Stir until sugar dissolves. Add vodka. Fill an old-fashioned glass halfway with cracked ice. Pour vodka mixture over ice, then pour entire mixture, including ice, back into mixing glass to gently mix the drink. Return to old-fashioned glass and garnish with a lime. PINEAPPLE HABANERO SHOOTER 1.0 oz habanero and pineapple infused rum 1.0 oz pineapple juice 0.5 oz grenadine Shake rum and pineapple juice over ice and pour into shooter glasses. Pour the layer of grenadine over the back of a spoon and allow to sink. REALFLOR Sunset Cutie Gaillardia x grandiflora Fuller, carpeting, nonstop flowering plants is what makes Sunset Cutie a winner in the perennial market. The radiant daisy-like blooms stand out to consumers with their rich red interiors which are surrounded by a ray of vivid yellow. RASPBERRY LEMON DROP 2.0 oz Citron Vodka 0.5 oz house lemon syrup 0.5 oz fresh lemon 0.5 oz Chambord Fill a shaker with ice cubes. Add the first three ingredients. Shake and strain into a sugar-rimmed coupe glass. Pour the layer of Chambord over the back of a spoon and allow to sink. RUMFISH 75 2.0 oz gin 0.5 oz house lemon syrup 0.5 oz lemon juice float of prosecco Combine gin, lemon juice, and lemon syrup in a cocktail shaker. Fill shaker with ice, cover, and shake vigorously until outside of shaker is very cold, about 20 seconds. Strain cocktail through a hawthorne strainer or a slotted spoon into a coupe or large flute. Top with prosecco; garnish with a lemon twist. HILLIER Blue Waves Eryngium x zabelii These unfussy, long-lived plants pump out beautiful foliage and flowers year after year. Vivid amethyst flower heads are surrounded by clusters of large, steelblue bracts on top of tall silver stems, which are encircled by rosettes of spiny, grey-green leaves. This sea holly s blooms make quite the statement in the garden; like a miniature firework display of flowers. Very drought tolerant, once established, Blue Waves thrives in moderate or even poor soil in full sun. Blue Waves makes an outstanding cut flower for home bouquets as well.
