Sing a song Alleluia song to London Bridge is falling down see attachment in Resource Pack Introduce the theme The Resurrection, which we celebrate on Easter day, and that the activities today are focused on this. You will need colouring sheets and coloured pencils set up on a table also plastic bags and ready made labels for Children to write their name on for their storage bag Have an enlarged copy or power point with the word of the Alleluia song. Use a story book to tell the good news of Easter. Finishing Time 1. Have children collect their activities and bring them to the circle time. 2. Recap on the day - Celebrating the Resurrection with activities 3. Thank you prayer - start with your own thank you prayer as a model, then ask each person to say thank you to God/Jesus for something from today s activities 4. Say the Lord s Prayer together 5. Sing Alleluia again 6. Say Grace ready for the food Children can leave their activities, while they get lunch/tea/snack or children can stay where they are and be served with slosh burger, their Toad in the hole, followed by their Hot cross buns or Iced cakes.. HOT CROSS BUNS Traditional hot cross buns, so easy to make your own in the breadmaker. 1/2 teaspoon mixed spice 500g White Bread Mix or Sweet bun mix Mix 2 teaspoons instant dry yeast In Auto Fruit and Nut Dispenser or add when the indictor buzz sounds 125g Angas Park Sultanas I tablespoon Angas Park Mixed Peel Crosses 2 tablespoons plain flour 2 tablespoons milk 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence 1. Place all ingredients into the bread pan in the order listed, insert into the breadmaker and close the lid. 2. Add sultanas and mixed peel to the Automatic Fruit and Nut Dispenser. 3. Program: Dough Press: Start 4. When ready, turn out onto a floured surface. Form into an even log shape. Cut into 12 even pieces. 5. Knead each piece into a smooth round. Place in a greased 19cm x 30cm slab tray or swiss roll pan. Cover and stand in a warm place to rise for about 30 minutes. 6. Mix the mixture for the crosses and place in a squeeze bottle or piping bag. Pipe crosses over the risen buns. 7. Bake in preheated oven 200 C for 15-20 minutes or until golden in colour and sound hollow when tapped. Remove to a wire rack to cool. hot cross buns makes: 16 prep: 1 hr 40 mins, cooking: 15-20 mins 310 mls (11/4 cup) milk 2 sachets ( 14g) Dry Yeast 600g (4 cups) plain flour I tsp salt 55g (1/4 cup) sugar I tsp mixed spice 160g (I cup) sultanas 40g (2 tbs) butter, melted, cooled I egg, lightly whisked flour paste 50g (1/J cup) plain flour 80mls (1'3 cup) cold water glaze 60mls (1/4 cup) water 2 tbs sugar 11z tsp mixed spice Method 1. Heat milk in a small saucepan until lukewarm. 2.. Combine the yeast, flour, salt, sugar, mixed spice and sultanas in a large bowl. Add lukewarm milk, butter and egg and mix well to form a soft dough. Turn the dough on to a lightly floured surface and knead firmly for 10 minutes or until smooth and elastic. Shape the dough into a ball and place in a large, lightly greased bowl, then turn lightly to cover the surface with oil. Cover with plastic wrap and leave in a warm place for 40-45 minutes or until the dough has doubled in size. 3. Preheat oven to 200 C. Brush a lamington pan (25 x 30cm) with butter to grease. 4. Knock down the dough by punching it once with your fist. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead lightly for 1 minute. Divide the dough into 16 even pieces. Shape each into a bun and place the buns in the greased baking pan. Cover with a tea towel and leave in a warm place for 25 minutes or until buns have expanded to just fill the pan. 4 of 4
5. Meanwhile, to make the flour paste for the crosses, beat the flour and water until smooth. Spoon the paste into a piping bag fitted with a 5mm plain piping tube. Pipe the paste in one continuous line down the centre of each row of buns and then crossways to form crosses. 6. Bake in preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until buns are golden and cooked through. Meanwhile, to make the glaze, combine the water, sugar and mixed spice in a small saucepan and stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Simmer, uncovered, for 5 minutes. Brush the bun tops with glaze and serve hot with plenty of butter. (5) Butterfly activity, use a butterfly cut out to colour and decorate and then glue to a peg. (6)Make an Easter Garden on a plate Supplies Needed To Make Your Own Resurrection Garden: Something large and shallow(ish) to plant it in. You could use a stiff plastic plate, as you can buy packs of these easily. A small terracotta pot for the tomb, or you can turn a plastic cup or a tin can sideways. If made as an activity need to keep warm in the oven, set on low heat to keep them warm.
