The 13th Century Ormanni estate is located right in the heart of Chianti, between the towns of Poggibonsi and Castellina in Chianti. Proof of the incredible heritage of this Tuscan property can be found in Dante Alighieri s Divina Commedia, where the Ormanni family is mentioned: so that it should not seem remarkable when I speak of the noble Florentines, whose fame is buried by time. I have seen the Ughi, seen the Catellini, the Filippi, Grechi, Ormanni and Alberichi, illustrious families already on the wane. Dante Alighieri (1265-1321) Divine Comedy, Paradise Canto XVI For the last 200 years the estate has been owned by the Brini Batacchi family, and it is Paolo Brini Batacchi together with his daughter Paola who run the winery today. The Ormanni property covers an area of 242 ha of land, 68 of which are vineyards dedicated principally to the cultivation of Sangiovese. They also have two beautiful agriturismo resorts, Podere La Querce and Podere Montignano.
The Ormanni Chianti and Chianti Classico are sincere, soil driven wines, expressive of the area of Barberino Val d Elsa, where Sangiovese takes on a brooding, austere character, while maintaining a generous, fruity core.
BIANCO TOSCANA IGT 2015 The Trebbiano and the Malvasia grapes come from 2 old estate vineyards located near Barberino Val d Elsa (Florence), while the Chardonnay and the Viogner grapes come from a vineyard located near Colle Val d Elsa (Siena). GRAPES: Trebbiano 40%, Malvasia 20%, Chardonnay and Viogner 40% The grapes were picked end of August, beginning of September. at controlled temperatures. Stainless steel.
CANAIOLO TOSCANA IGT 2015 The grapes come from vineyards located near Barberino Val d Elsa (Florence). GRAPES: Canaiolo 100%. The grapes were picked during the first half of September. at controlled temperatures. Stainless steel.
CHIANTI DOCG 2014 / 2015 Vineyards located near Poggibonsi in the province of Siena, within the Chianti DOCG appellation. GRAPES: Sangiovese 90%, Canaiolo and Merlot 10%. Merlot was picked mid September and Sangiovese and Canaiolo at the end of September. tanks for 12-15 days at a temperature of 27-28 C. One year in large cement tanks.
CHIANTI CLASSICO DOCG 2013 / 2014 The vineyards for this wine are located near Barberina Val d Elsa in the province of Florence. GRAPES: Sangiovese 90%, Canaiolo 10%. The grapes were picked from the end of September to the first week of October. tanks for 10-12 days at a controlled temperature of 27-28 C. 10-12 months in barriques or big oak barrels followed by a minimum of 4 months in the bottle.
CHIANTI CLASSICO RISERVA DOCG BORRO DEL DIAVOLO 2013 The vineyard Borro del Diavolo, (the devil s brook) is located near Barberina Val d Elsa in the province of Florence. It produces grapes exclusively for this Chianti Classico Riserva. GRAPES: Sangiovese 100%. The grapes were picked during the first ten days of October. tanks for 15-18 days at a controlled temperature of 27-28 C. AWARDS: About 20 months in oak barrels followed by a minimum of 4 months in the bottle. 2012: Slow Wine
CHIANTI CLASSICO GRAN SELEZIONE ETICHETTA STORICA DOCG 2012 The Gran Selezione from Ormanni is produced with a selection of the best grapes from the oldest vineyards located in the area of Barberina Val d Elsa in the province of Florence. The Gran Selezione is produced only in the best vintages. GRAPES: Sangiovese 100%. The grapes were picked between the end of September and first week of October. at controlled temperatures. JULIUS IGT TOSCANA 2013 This wine is dedicated to renowned winemaker and Sangiovese specialist Giulio (Julius) Gambelli. Vineyards near Poggibonsi in the province of Siena. GRAPES: Sangiovese 60%, Merlot 30%, Syrah 10%. Each variety is picked separately. tanks for 15-18 days at a controlled temperature of 27-28 C. 16 months in new oak barrels. Bottle ageing for 12 months.
