Details: The New Orleans Lyceum, an organization dedicated to adult learning, will host a Philosophy Cafe or Philo Cafe at the Inn On Bourbon. A philosophy café is an opportunity to actually do philosophy in a fun conversational manner without reading heavy texts or listening to ponderous lectures. The goal of this discussion is not to come up with definitive solutions to philosophical quandaries but to demonstrate, by interaction, how complex and interesting concepts can be when they are applied specifically and generally. The tradition of philosophical conversation goes back to the ancient philosophers of Greece and maybe earlier. This tradition became famous again in the salons of the French Enlightenment of the 18 th Century and in Paris after the Second World War. Scheduled for the third Thursday of every month at the Inn On Bourbon, these 90 minute sessions will focus on a different topic each month. The Philo Cafes will be facilitated by Lyceum instructors and are open to any interested adults. For more information, call David O Donaghue at 504.473.7194 or email neworleanslyceum@gmail.com.
