THE FLAG OF PANAMA THE FLAG OF PANAMA WAS FOUNDED BY MARÍA DE LA OSSA DE AMADOR AND OFFICIALLY BECAME THE FLAG IN 1925 BECAUSE OF ITS SEPERATION FROM COLUMBIA. THE FLAG'S COLOURS SYMBOLIZE THE TWO POLITICAL PARTIES OF PANAMA, THE LIBERALS, WHICH ARE RED AND THE CONSERVATIVES, WHICH ARE BLUE. THE WHITE REPRESENTS PEACE BETWEEN THEM AND THE EQUAL DIVISION OF THE COLOURS STATES THAT THEY BOTH GOVERN THE COUNTRY AT DIFFERENT TIMES.

THE CAPITAL CITY OF PANAMA THE CITY OF PANAMA WAS FOUNDED ON AUGUST 15, 1519, BY SPANISH CONQUISTADOR PEDRO ARIAS DAVILA. IT HAS AN URBAN POPULATION OF 880,691, WITH OVER 1.5 MILLION IN ITS METROPOLITAN AREA. THE CITY IS LOCATED AT THE PACIFIC ENTRANCE OF THE PANAMA CANAL.

POPULATION THE POPULATION OF PANAMA IS AROUND 4.2 MILLION. AREA THE AREA OF PANAMA IS 75,420 KM² (29,120 SQ MILES).

BORDERS THE COUNTRIES THAT BORDER PANAMA ARE COSTA RICA AND COLOMBIA. THE SEAS AND OCEANS THAT SURROUND PANAMA ARE THE PACIFIC OCEAN AND THE CARIBBEAN SEA.

FAMOUS DANCES PANAMANIANS LOVE TO GATHER TOGETHER AND DANCE, WHETHER IT IS AMONGST FRIENDS AND FAMILY OR FOR LOCAL OR NATIONAL CELEBRATIONS. PANAMA, AS WELL AS MANY OF ITS NEIGHBOURS HAS A LARGE TRADITION OF DANCING AND SINGING. PANAMANIANS LIKE LATIN DANCES SUCH AS SALSA, MERENGUE OR BACHATA BUT THEY ALSO LOVE THEIR FOLKLORE.

DANCE STYLES SALSA SALSA IS A POPULAR FORM OF DANCE THAT ORIGINATED IN THE CARIBBEAN. THE MOVEMENTS OF SALSA HAVE ORIGINS IN PUERTO RICAN BOMBA AND PLENA, CUBAN SON, CHA-CHA-CHA, MAMBO AND OTHER DANCE FORMS. THE DANCE, ALONG WITH SALSA MUSIC, ORIGINATED IN THE MID- 1970S IN NEW YORK. DIFFERENT REGIONS OF LATIN AMERICA AND THE UNITED STATES HAVE DISTINCT SALSA STYLES OF THEIR OWN, SUCH AS CUBAN, PUERTO RICAN, CALI COLOMBIA, L.A. AND NEW YORK STYLE. BACHATA BACHATA IS A STYLE OF DANCE THAT ORIGINATED IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC.... UNLIKE SALSA, BACHATA DANCE DOES NOT USUALLY INCLUDE COMPLEX TURN PATTERNS BUT THEY ARE USED MORE AND MORE AS THE DANCE EVOLVES. THE LEADING IS DONE JUST LIKE IN MOST OTHER SOCIAL DANCES, WITH HAND AND ARM COMMUNICATION.

SPORT BASEBALL IS PANAMA'S MOST POPULAR SPORT, WHILST BASKETBALL AND BOXING FOLLOW IN POPULARITY. BASEBALL IS OFFICIALLY PANAMA'S NATIONAL SPORT AND FOUR PANAMANIANS ARE IN THE INTERNATIONAL BOXING HALL OF FAME.
