INFORMATIONS ABOUT THE DOMAIN Located on the right bank of the Garonne river, opposite to the Medoc vineyard, the château Peychaud is a family estate of 28 hectares of vines and 25 hectares of classified park. Thecastlewasbuildinthe 17 th centurybythe Marquis de Fayet, Councellor at the Bordeaux Parliament and ancester of the actual owner: Jacques de Pontac. The «Presqu Ile», a great actor in the Bordeaux wine history Vines that you can discover today in the «Presqu île» area, between the Garonne and Dordogne Rivers, as the Peychaud vines, are the latest statement of one of oldest vineyard in South-West of France. Since the middle of the 18th century, the«presqu île», land provided 11 % of the harvest of the Bordeaux vineyard, just after Medoc and Graves. The cellars of château Peychaud, built in 1680 along the Garonne river, allowed any reception and shipping waterway. A variety of terroirs... From the East of the domain on a soil of Graves to the West in alluvial stones, the three main Bordeaux grape varieties evolve on various soils that give to our wines a beautiful complexity and expression of the fruit. The proximity of the Atlantic Ocean and especially its estuary, the Gironde, provides benefic protection against excessive temperatures, and helps to a progressive maturation of the grapes. THE FAMILY DE PONTAC, WINE GROWERS FOR MORE THAN 400 YEARS CHÂTEAU PEYCHAUD, A FAMILIAL VINEYARD SINCE 11 GENERATIONS 1630, Birth and growth of the domain The château PEYCHAUD was built in 1630 by le Marquis de Fayet who was a councillor at the Bordeaux Parliament.. It included at that date 295 hectares of vineyards, meadows, wheat soils and of course marshes. It was the typical example of the great estates based on a mixed farming with wine growing prevailing.. 1850, the Admiral s time Inthe19 th century, the property is widely developed by theadmiralcharlesdedompierred Hornoy, who was Minister of the French Navy, and grand-grandfather of Jacques de Pontac. He brought an economic dynamism to the city of Ambares. He enlarged the castle with 2 square pavilions, plugged marshes and edified new farm buildings. At his age, the vineyard knows a considerable expansion, the harvest increasing from 90 to 100 barrels. Mainly, he led the hard fight against the phylloxera. The geographic location, between Garonne & Dordogne rivers, allowed the technical of submersion of the vines. This technical saved the vineyard of Peychaud! Intributetothesea, the Admiral de Dompierre d'hornoy created abluelabel for the Château Peychaud which becames the signature of our wines. This audacious choice is the symbol of tradition and modernity that characterize the wines of Peychaud. 1980, Arrival of Jacques de PONTAC Awarded of the Medal of agricultural merit, Jacques de Pontac, great-great son of the Admiral, devoted his life to the preservation and development to this familial, cultural and wine heritage. He restored the castle and modernized the cellar, replanted the vineyard and widely opened the doors to visitors! Following a feminine : At his death in 2012, his two daughters Slanie et Elisabeth decided to continue the family adventure by working in the vineyard, in the cellar and wine sales. THE PONTAC FAMILY AND BORDEAUX The Pontac family became famous in the16 th century when Jean de Pontac founded thechateau HAUT-BRION, a noble but invigorating mission he lived 101 years! One of his descendant became Chairman of the Bordeaux Parliament, on par with the wellknown philosophers Montaigne and Montesquieu. He developed the export of his great quality wine to England and all Europe, and participated in 1666 in the opening in London of a tavern called «PONTAC SHEAD»which shortly became one of the most fashionable places in the city. Since that age, the members of this family have managed several wine estates in the Bordeaux area.

TO EXPRESS THE "TERROIR" OUR COMMITMENT We want each action of man to be in service of the best expression of the "terroir" of Peychaud. This means: In the vineyard a precise work of the vine plants, adapted to each parcel, respecting the environment with a limitation of treatments. A strict control of the vineyard is the key to produce high quality fruit, thesearchofanoptimummaturityofeachgrapevariety, natural grassing inter-rows, adensityof5000plants/haandmasteredyieldsinorderthatgrapescanrevealallhisaromatic complexity A trellis givinga large leaf setting, In the cellar a slow extraction of tannins, a wine-making with each parcel in separated vat and adapted to the vintage conditions, a long maturing during minimum 18 months, in French oak barrels or vats, in order to leave time to aromas and tannins to express themselves, to stabilize and to unify. and to obtain an harmonious structure, A straight collaboration with our œnologist who works on elaboration of ours wines for over 20 years, And especially, patience, efforts, rigor, but also gentleness, passion for work and permanent improvements!
