It seems like someone climbed to the highest mountain and shouted we have arrived. The Delaware River Food and Wine Festival took place this weekend and was trumpeted as a triumphant success. Spectacular, extraordinary, wonderful were heard on the lips of people who attended. Sharon Rothman, Eastern Pocono Mountains Community News DELAWARE RIVER FOOD AND WINE FESTIVAL A different kind of festival Founded in 2008 the Delaware River Food and Wine Festival aims to celebrate the best natural and culinary gems of our region by packaging them together with an unprecedented standard for hospitality and customer service while raising money for local food charities. From Scratch In line with our efforts to put quality before quantity, artisinal skill and craftsmanship are prized. By showcasing regional standout businesses, farms and experiences we ve been able to create a world-class series of unique food and wine events truly rooted in the community nestled along the Delaware River region. Committed to leading by example in our community, we set out to find a green sponsor to provide biodegradable disposables for our events that could be composted. EcoProducts enabled us to set a standard of sustainable practices in our first year.

Feeding People it s what we re about It s not often that you can do so much good for those in need by treating yourself so well. A portion of festival proceeds will be donated to local food-related charities. Our hope is that the Delaware River Food and Wine Festival continues to be successful in feeding people through charitable giving, fostering local economic development and producing worldclass events that are uniquely rooted in our community. plantingseeds The Delaware River Food and Wine Festival is proud to announce a corporate partnership with sanofi pasteur. By encouraging community development through local business collaboration, we hope to plant the seeds of abundance for those in-need. With the soaring costs of food and fuel, our local Meals-on-Wheels chapters are struggling to make their routes. 100% of The Festival s profits (net of expenses) will go to this critical and often overlooked charitable service. sanofi pasteur will match profits up to $25,000.00 this first year. The Festival would like to thank sanofi pasteur, one of our area s largest corporations and certainly one of the most generous. To learn more about The Delaware River Food and Wine Festival and its partners, go to www.delawareriverfoodandwine.com, or phone 570.369.3955.

LOOK WHO S BEEN PAIRING THEMSELVES WITH DELAWARE RIVER FOOD AND WINE In its inaugural year, the Festival s Menu of Events took pride in offering experiences that were not otherwise commercially available. The intimate scale of these events as well as our commitment to excellence and attention to detail generated unprecedented media buzz for a first time event. After our September 2008 Festival dates, we were privileged to receive very positive press coverage about our unique events that blended gourmet food, premium wines, microbrew beers, unsurpassed natural beauty, education, fun and a new standard of quality for our region.

Boutique Events MUSHROOM FORAGE & EDIBLE HIKE Hunt and gather while hiking through private and protected forest at a secret location near the Delaware River. Local Naturalist John Serrao and Mushroom Hunter, Rick Koval will co-lead this outdoor culinary adventure with the goal of educating participants on wild edibles in this unique environment. Hikers will bring back their finds to Chef Laurie Diaz from The Private Table, who will prepare these ingredients for a remote gourmet lunch in the woods, paired with wines meant to bring out the earthy qualities of the wild mushrooms. Chef Laurie Diaz (left) breaks open the giant puff ball mushroom, which she would slice, sear and serve with a bacon, shallot and Merlot reduction. DINNER WITH THE CHAIRMAN DRF&W is so Designer... Two of our Festival Events were produced by professional Interior Designer, Marsha Cates of Room Service LLC. Dinner with the Chairman (right) and Vertical Victorian: a Private Home Tour of an Award Winning Home in the Historic Hill District of Stroudsburg. FOODIE FARE ALONG THE DELAWARE An extravagant 25-course tasting menu where each course is accompanied by a chef-appointed wine and/or micro brew. Featuring wines from all over the world, learn how food and wine are meant to be enjoyed together. For those wanting to learn more about pairing beer with their favorite gourmet delights, hop on to the Beer Pairings track, where the same gourmet menu has been matched up with the finest regional brews.

Accolades, Rave Reviews & Gushing Testimonials...Excellent, sensational, a job very, very well done. Not only are you showcasing the talent and depth of the food industry in your region, but also the Delaware area's ability to give attention to detail.. every detail, from parking help, to the VIP tent, staff, food, wine, the gift apron and food and wine note pad. Not to mention the scenery, and award ceremony. Loved it. Thanks and Cheers. Tina B. Bethlehem, PA I just wanted to let you know, we had a wonderful time on Saturday. I've heard from neighbors and friends that they really enjoyed the event. You did an incredible job. I am sure it was a successful event! Deanne K. Great Bear, PA We had a great time. Plan to bring many people next year, can t wait. Beyond any expectation. I have participated in events from the Javitz Center to Grandma s backyard and this was the most beautiful experience ever! Sheelah, Torte Knox Hawley, PA I m off to Rome for a month! Sonda M. New York, NY WOW!!! After spending the day relaxing and reflecting upon yesterday's most awesome experience, I wanted to congratulate you on your vision, your ideas, your drive, and your ability to pull together a world class happening! It reminded me of some of the times Bill and I spent in Napa Valley. With the mushroom foraging event, the trout fishing and quail hunting experience, and the wealth of culinary sampling, you truly have captured the fact that we have such a rich local bounty right here in our backyard. The setting was breathtaking and has left an indelible mark on my heart; the Delaware River looked magical and the historic Shawnee resort was dressed to its best. This was truly a rich and memorable event, capturing the romantic grandeur that our unique area possesses, and highlighting the talented local artisans with their world class fare. Again, I salute you and your achievement!! With Highest Regard, Leslie S. Buck Hill Falls, PA

DINE ALONG WINE REGION-THEMED DINNERS IN PRIVATE HOMES. Does your neck stretch just a little more than you would care to admit when you pass that spectacular house in the neighborhood you like to drive through on Sundays? You know the one. Guess what? The most exclusive homes in the region are opening their doors for the Delaware River Food and Wine Festival s night of Private Home Chef Prepared Dinner Parties. Each Dinner Party will be unique to reflect the art collection, wine collection, and architectural style of the home and personalities of the owners. Each gathering will feature a private tour of the home, wines from a well known wine region, and an intimate multi-course dinner prepared by one of the area s finest Chefs. Just a few examples: VERTICAL VICTORIAN Step back in time and dine in a Baroque Rococo styled lovingly restored Victorian home in the historic Hill District of Stroudsburg, PA. Join owner, Peter Kallentaris and Interior Designer Marsha Cates from Room Service LLC for a vertical wine tasting dinner featuring flavors from the Napa Valley prepared by Chef Jim Evans from The Blakeslee Inn and Restaurant. You deserve the best, and the Best is w h a t w e v e g a t h e r e d f o r t h i s collaborative, 25-course, stroll-along tasting menu with libations pairings. We promise, you ll be thinking differently about food, wine, beer, coffee, and that gorgeous Delaware River (who knew!). MINI SEMINARS In the morning before the doors open for Foodie Fare, there will be 3-4 scheduled educational seminars on topics relating to wine, wine regions, beer, beer trends, hops exchange, a home brewers forum discussion, coffee cupping, tea tasting, garden pairings, etc. These mini seminars are subject to availability of experts and sponsors. COOKING DEMONSTRATIONS The Kitchen Pavilion at the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort will be provided by Trexler-Haines, and will feature the five Grand Prize Taste Award winners of the 2008 contest preparing their winning dishes. Who knows, there may be a certain Celebrity Chef Along the Delaware as well.

Delaware River food & wine LLC The Mission of Delaware River Food and Wine is: To transform the Delaware River region into a celebrated culinary tourism destination, with an increased availability of locally-sourced specialties and an authentic eating and drinking culture. To identify, support and laud the artisans, brewers, farmers, chefs and standout businesses along the Delaware River. The intention of these efforts is to bring an economic infusion into the region that would go hand in hand with the development of a nationally recognized regional cuisine. The Delaware River Food and Wine Festival is an expression of these endeavors, providing tangible recognition for leaders in our transformation in food culture, as well as a vehicle to benefit local food charities.
