2008 girt by sea cabernet merlot Voyager Estate Girt by Sea Cabernet Merlot is the second Cabernet dominant blend in the Voyager Estate portfolio. Approachable in its youth, it presents a more rounded mid-palate and less intense tannins than the Voyager Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot. The perfect vintage conditions in 2008 have created this neat Girt by Sea Cabernet Merlot with excellent concentration, displaying vibrant sweet fruit, elegance and class, all wrapped in fine grained, layered tannins. The Vintage: The start of the 2008 growing season was quite cool and damp and by November we were heading into a great Margaret River summer. Beautiful warm to hot days, mild nights and a lack of rainfall combined to produce one of the best red wine vintages the region has seen. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot yields were very low - between four and five tonnes per Hectare. The low yielding vintage and perfect weather conditions allowed exemplary tannin ripeness and saw stunning, vibrant fruit flavours of blackberry, black cherry and mulberry develop in the fruit which was harvested during late March and early April. This vintage will undoubtedly go down as one of Voyager Estate s great Cabernet years. Variety: 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 5% Malbec 2% Cabernet Franc, 1% Grenache, 1% Shiraz Colour: Dark red, crimson colour. Nose: Lifted bouquet of cassis and mulberries with some dusty briary notes and hints of vanillin and cedar from the fine grained oak. Palate: A fine and elegant wine with an excellent concentration of juicy, ripe fruit displaying flavours of blackberry, dark cherry, and mulberry. The silky tannins integrate seamlessly with the fruit and sweet vanillin and cedary notes imparted from maturation in quality French and American oak. Style: Made for enjoying in the short- to medium-term, this soft wine style remains true to its regional origins and varietal characters. Food Match: This juicy wine will match perfectly lamb and beef dishes, such as roasted lamb loin on pumpkin purée with a Dijon mustard glaze and baby herb salad. Alc/Vol: 14.1% ph: 3.79 Total Acidity: 6.1 g/l Harvest Date: 27 March - 5 April 2008 Oak Maturation: French and American, 12 months Cellaring Potential: Up to five years Steve James Manager of Winemaking and Viticulture with Winemaker, Travis Lemm, and Vineyard Manager, Glen Ryan For more information contact: Voyager Estate Cellar Door, Telephone: +61 8 9757 6354 Email: cellardoor@voyagerestate.com.au

Voyager Estate Cellar Door Michael Wright Voyager Estate is at the forefront in Margaret River From the beginning, owner Michael Wright s vision has been to deliver a wine experience not previously seen in Margaret River. With over 150 years of family farming in his blood, Michael s fascination with agriculture and in bringing produce to life led him to the wine industry in 1991. In developing Voyager Estate, he has used his extensive knowledge of soils and climate to help him in his choice of vineyard location. This in turn has enabled Voyager Estate to grow the grape varieties best suited to the area and to make elegant and sophisticated wines that tell a site-specific story. For Michael, bringing his produce to life has meant not only the creation of these sensational wines, but also bringing out the best in food and hospitality to share with the world. Voyager Estate is located in the southern part of the Margaret River region in Western Australia, just a few kilometres from the ocean. Michael settled on the sub-region of Stevens Valley because it had the ideal characteristics to create wines that are at home amongst the world s best. The gravel soils, microclimate, aspect, and consistent maritime influence are the foundations of the Voyager Estate wine style. The viticulture and winemaking teams work as one to create distinctive wines from each vintage that display an elegance, complexity and balance that are true to the individuality of the vineyard blocks. The genuine dedication to viticulture can be seen in the fruit, which shows depth of flavour and finesse, and the winemaking approach is subtle, yet always being refined. Voyager Estate s wines are consistently recognised by highlyacclaimed critics. For close to a decade, Voyager Estate s Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot have received ratings of 93 points and above from Australian wine authority James Halliday and for the last three years he has classified Voyager Estate as an outstanding winery with a red five-star rating. Winning numerous winemaking and viticultural awards, including the 2007 Margaret River Viticultural Excellence award, Voyager Estate is dedicated to constantly setting and achieving the highest possible standards and thereby creating highly distinctive wines. When you visit the Estate itself, you will discover you have arrived somewhere inspirational. Every aspect of the Estate, from the Cape Dutch architecture and award-winning restaurant to the stunning gardens and meticulous vineyards, is evidence of the Voyager Estate team s attention to detail and a credit to Michael Wright s vision. The Voyager Estate Restaurant is consistently recognised as one of Australia s best through the numerous awards it has received for the quality of food, wine and service standards. Voyager Estate is also taking significant steps every day to achieve its long-term objective of being an environmentally-sustainable wine company. Since 2004, a dedicated environmental management team has set Voyager Estate on a path towards environmental sustainability and implements leading practices in land care, water recycling, green power and sustainable packaging. New initiatives are constantly evaluated and implemented to help Voyager Estate achieve its environmental ambitions. The Voyager Estate team consists of more than 60 people all working to ensure that the extremely high standards set by Michael are consistently achieved and maintained. It is this dedication to excellence which has led Voyager Estate to establish itself as one of Australia s most memorable wine estates. 2008 shiraz The 2008 Shiraz is an impressive Shiraz that continues the evolution of this variety at Voyager Estate and in Margaret River. Small batch fermentation and soft winemaking techniques are employed to ensure the fruit aromatics are respected and the fine tannins and intense colour are extracted from the grapes. The Wine The fantastic growing conditions and low fruit yields made for an intense wine that exudes dark fruit flavours of blackberries, blueberries and blood plums. Crème brulée and anise aromas add to the complexity delivered by the use of quality French and American oak over the 12 months maturation period. Superb structure and mid-palate fruit sweetness are supported by soft powdery tannins on the finish. Vineyard The stony, gravelly soils of the region are best suited to growing Shiraz in Margaret River. Our seven Shiraz blocks comprise five different clones and are planted on some of our toughest, shallow, gravelly soils which reduce the inherent vigour of this variety. With the cooling sea breezes off the Indian Ocean and intensive viticultural management, including crop thinning and green thinning, the vines are sensitively managed to produce an impressive Shiraz that continues the evolution of this variety at Voyager Estate and in Margaret River. Vintage The 2008 growing season started quite cool and damp and by November we were heading into a great Margaret River summer. Beautiful warm to hot days, mild nights and a lack of rainfall combined to produce one of the best red wine vintages the region has seen. Yields of Shiraz were a touch lower than normal, averaging five tonnes per Hectare and we saw lovely tannin ripeness develop very early on. This set the scene for the Shiraz to be harvested during the last week of March before any shrivelling of the fruit occurred. The season has delivered exceptional Shiraz with a perfumed bouquet, ripe flavours and fine grained, layered tannins. Steve James Manager of Winemaking and Viticulture with Winemaker, Travis Lemm, and Vineyard Manager, Glen Ryan Variety: 95% Shiraz 5% Malbec Colour: Dark crimson with vibrant purple hues. Nose: Lifted aromas of blackberries, blueberries and crème brulée characters with hints of dusty vanillin oak. Palate: A long and balanced mouthfeel with fantastic rich black fruits on the mid-palate. Hints of spice and anise intertwine with sweet vanillin and cedary oak flavours that are complemented by soft powdery tannins. Style: 2008 was one of the finest Margaret River red vintages, producing a typical Shiraz with blood plum, blueberry and dark cherry flavours. The classic Margaret River Indian Summer conditions have created a wine with elegance, perfume, structure, and colour. Food Match: Lamb shanks, venison or moderately spicy Middle Eastern foods match perfectly with the lifted spice and soft tannin structure of this Shiraz. Alc/Vol: 14.0% ph: 3.7 Total Acidity: 6.5 g/l Harvest Date: 15-28 March 2008 Oak Maturation: French and American, 12 months, 40% new Bottling Date: 11 August 2009 Cellaring Potential: Up to 10 years For more information contact: Voyager Estate Cellar Door, Telephone: +61 8 9757 6354 Email: cellardoor@voyagerestate.com.au

tasting notes 2007 chardonnay Variety : Chardonnay Alc/Vol : 13.2% Harvest Date : 14-28 February 2007 Oak Treatment : French oak, 12 months, 40% new Bottling Date : 15 April 2008 Cellaring Potential : Up to 7 years Colour: Nose: Palate: Style: Food Match: Pale straw. Classic southern Margaret River grapefruit and dried pear fruits dominate the nose at this early stage. Plenty of nutty flavours and mealy notes from the lees stirring and quality French oak. Lovely soft and textured fruits dominate the palate. This Chardonnay is very creamy with the regional dried pear and pink grapefruit starting to show through. Influenced by the warm vintage of 2007, this wine exhibits strong fruit flavours in the dried pear and grapefruit spectrum. It is full-flavoured with nutty characters and toasty French oak. Traditional lightly smoked Salmon would be the ultimate accompaniment to this Chardonnay. Alternatively, richer textured deep sea fish, spatchcock or cheese would also match favourably.

tasting notes 2005 cabernet sauvignon merlot Variety : 79% Cabernet Sauvignon 15% Merlot 5% Malbec 1% Petit Verdot Alc/Vol : 14.0% Harvest Date : 24 March - 15 April 2005 Oak Treatment : 24 months, 100% French, 50% new, 50% two-year-old Bottling Date : 25 June 2007 Cellaring Potential : 5 to 15 years Colour: Nose: Palate: Style: Food Match: Deep ruby with violet hues. A wonderfully aromatic wine displaying classic Cabernet cassis, violets and juicy dark fruit. Blackberries, cherry and dark chocolate combine to create a layered, complex nose. This wine reveals an intense dark berry fruit spectrum coupled with a rich and lush mouthfeel. High quality French oak has given the wine great definition and a long, soft tannin structure and finish. The mild, dry growing season resulted in optimum fruit and tannin ripeness. The 2005 vintage has produced soft wines with fleshy, sweet fruit flavours, very much in the same style as the famed 2001 vintage. Caramelised Szechuan dusted beef fillet with roasted pumpkin and caper mash served with enoki mushrooms and cabernet jus.

2010 chenin blanc The warm and extended ripening period experienced during the 2010 vintage has delivered an outstanding example of Voyager Estate Chenin Blanc. Made with fruit sourced from two Estate blocks, including 32-yearold original vines, this wine is pale straw in colour with light green tinges. It is a vibrant expression of tropical fruits and honeydew melon on the nose, while the palate displays lovely weight and intense fruit flavours of citrus, guava and honeydew melon, balanced with fresh acidity and a moderately sweet finish. The Vintage: An excellent, wet winter was followed by one of the best growing seasons experienced at Voyager Estate. Warm, sunny days with light winds combined with good soil moisture produced excellent, well-balanced vine growth and provided perfect conditions for flowering. The fruitset was exceptional and, as the bunches elongated, the early signs indicated heavy yields. Routine fruit-thinning was carried out prior to veraison to reduce yields to our target levels and ensure outstanding quality. The summer/autumn ripening period was warm and dry with sugar and flavour accumulation in the whites occurring very quickly. The warm and extended ripening conditions experienced were perfect for Chenin Blanc, which is the latest ripening white grape variety on our vineyard. The 2010 vintage was outstanding for white wines, producing fruit with exceptional sugar and acid balance with clean, crisp fruit flavours displaying purity and elegance - the hallmarks of Voyager Estate wines. The Environment: The 2010 Chenin Blanc is bottled using Lean and Green light-weight bottles and is packaged in locally-manufactured, 100% recycled cardboard boxes. Using packaging from sustainable sources is part of our comprehensive environmental program which has seen Voyager Estate recognised with EntWine Australia certification. EntWine Australia internationally recognises wineries environmental practices according to recognised standards. Variety: Chenin Blanc Colour: Pale straw with green tinges. Nose: Vibrant expression of tropical fruits with fresh notes of guava and honeydew melon. Palate: Great depth and intense fruit weight in the guava and citrus spectrum are balanced with fresh acidity and a moderately sweet finish. Style: With fruit being sourced from two blocks, including the 32-year-old original Estate vines, intensity of fruit flavours, balanced by fresh acidity and sweetness, are the core elements to this refreshing early drinking style. Food Match: The wine balances well with mildly spiced Asian dishes or fresh seafood. 2010 sauvignon blanc semillon The 2010 vintage has produced a classic example of this quintessential Margaret River blend. Comprising 64% Sauvignon Blanc and 36% Semillon, the wine is pale straw in colour and displays aromas of gooseberry, citrus and tropical fruit on the nose. The palate reveals a wonderful purity of fruit, showcasing flavours of gooseberry, citrus and melons with a hint of passionfruit. Texture and palate weight from some minor barrel fermentation support this perfectly balanced wine, which finishes crisp and dry. It is an outstanding example of a wine made for immediate enjoyment. Daily tasting of the fruit was essential to determine the correct harvest window - particularly on the Sauvignon Blanc. The 2010 vintage was outstanding for white wines, producing fruit with exceptional sugar and acid balance with clean, crisp fruit flavours displaying purity and elegance - the hallmarks of Voyager Estate wines. The Environment: The 2010 Sauvignon Blanc Semillon is bottled using Lean and Green lightweight bottles and is packaged in locally-manufactured, 100% recycled cardboard boxes. Using packaging from sustainable sources is part of our comprehensive environmental program which has seen Voyager Estate recognised with EntWine Australia certification. EntWine Australia internationally recognises wineries environmental practices according to recognised standards. Variety: 64% Sauvignon Blanc, 36% Semillon Colour: Pale straw. Nose: Aromas of gooseberry and guava, with strong citrus pith and hints of passionfruit are evident on the nose. Palate: A fresh blend that carries rich fruit flavours of gooseberry and passionfruit across the palate to a crisp dry finish. Texture and weight from some barrel fermentation support this finely balanced wine. Style: A fine 2010 growing season has assisted in producing a balanced wine reflective of the varietal characteristics of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon from Margaret River. Food Match: The versatile structure of this wine enables it to work well with many foods. Consistently a perfect match with market-fresh fish from the Voyager Estate restaurant. Alc/Vol: 12.9% ph: 3.42 Total Acidity: 5.9g/L Harvest Date: 26 February - 6 March 2010 Oak Maturation: 20% of the Semillon component is fermented in new French oak barrels.
