English Wine Bolney Wine Estate One of the longest established English vineyards, located in Sussex and been making award winning English wines for over 35 years. Started producing white wines but decided to focus on red wines as they were a real potential for making quality lighter red wines similar in style to the best New Zealand Pinot Noirs. The sparkling English wines have been particularly successful, winning gold medals as people realise English sparkling wines are as good as, and sometimes even better than, the best Champagnes, which is hardly surprising given that Bolney follow the same traditional method as is used to produce Champagne! They also have sandstone soils which are perfect for growing vines! Still wines ex. The vineyards specialise in growing classic grape varieties to make the highest quality bottle fermented sparkling wines. The world class status of Ridgeview wines is reflected by the number of national & international medals and trophies they have received since the release of the first wines from the 1996 vintage. MERRET Ridgeview s trade mark MERRET is in honour of Englishman Christopher Merret. In 1662 he presented a paper to the Royal Society in London which documented the process of making traditional method sparkling wines. This was 30 years before the technique was documented in champagne. To celebrate Merret s achievements Ridgeview has kept a London connection when naming their range of wines. Sparkling wines ex.
