Sweet Cherry Cultivars Bred in the Czech Republic J. Blazkova, F. Paprstein, J. Sedlak Research and Breeding Institute of Pomology Holovousy Ltd.

Introduction Since the establishment of the research institute in 1951, an inventory of sweet cherry cultivars had been carried out in the area of today's Czech Republic. Cultivars Karesova Karesova (ripening at the same time as Burlat Burlat ) and Kordia (ripening in the 5 th sweet cherry week) resulted from this activity. Presently Kordia is considered to be a standard sweet cherry cultivar not only in Europe. Own breeding programme started in the sixties of the last century. Since then, this programme has successfully continued.

Fruit: smaller 5.5-6 g, fruit flesh is red, soft, sweet, mild flavour, coloured flesh and juice. Resistance: flowers are susceptible to the damage by late spring frosts, moderately susceptible to cracking of fruits, moderately resistant to Blumeriella jaapii. Overall evaluation: very early, dark, heart shaped sweet cherry with fruits slightly bigger than Rivan, more resistant to Monilia when compared to Rivan. 3
