University House is the home of the University Club at the University of Melbourne The University of Melbourne, Victoria, 3010 Tel: +61 3 8344 5254 Fax: +61 3 8344 6055 www.uniclub.com.au Newsletter august 2012 Dear Members, As I write this, in the midst of a cold August day, University House (Tin Alley) and University House at the Woodward (UH@W) are busy with large numbers of members and guests. The team at the Coffee Bar (Unihouse Tin Alley) is bustling and we are serving a full house at the Woodward. The new UH@W Boardroom lunch is proving popular as a bookable lunch alternative to the more casual lunch in the often very busy Woodward Café. The new UH@W Boardroom features table service, a great value menu (two courses for $34) and a more relaxed lunch with exceptional views to the west of Melbourne. Members feedback in both the Boardroom and Café have been excellent. While our focus for the early part of 2012 has been building the new operation at the Woodward, we have also been working on a new servery for University House at Tin Alley. Many members have been asking about the progress. We are now preparing to finalise the design and we will start work in spring this year. The new servery will modernise our food delivery and offer a far greater short-order menu (where you order from the counter and are served at your table). Memberships have also been on the increase. Nearly 100 new members have joined the club compared to this time last year. The new proposers reward has been received with great enthusiasm with many of the new members located south of Grattan Street. I am sure the new operation on the 10 th floor of the Law Building has been a major inducement. Over the coming months there are a number of member events including a Champagne Cocktail tasting on October 4 th from 5.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. A $20 entry fee will be rebated on purchases. This will be a very popular event with three champagne makers presenting their wines and, of course, fine finger food. Numbers will be limited and bookings are now open.
