SEMANTIC INTEGRATION AND FORGETTING 3 Appendix B Direct associations between the practiced (Rp+) and non-practiced sets (Rp-) in the Interset conditions according to University of South Florida Word Association Norms: Appendix B provides the between-set associations for the two experimental lists. The tables include pairs of exemplars in the conditions that are directly associated according to USF Word Association Norms, and are arranged by categories, sets that served in the practiced (Rp+) and non-practiced conditions (Rp-), and by the direction of association (i.e. from Set A to Set B or from B to A). Bolded pairs are bi-directly associated, meaning that there is a direct association from the member of Set A to the member of Set B, and from B to A. It is important to note that consistent with the retrieval practice pattern manipulation in both experiments, there were many direct associations between the sets in the conditions, however there were only a few associations between the sets in the conditions. Note Because there were so few between set associations in the conditions (one in Experiments 1 3, and two in Experiment 4), they are not shown here. Because we adapted Butler et al. s (2001) stimulus sets for Experiment 4, there are a varying number of associations per category.
