MATERIAL AND MANUFACTURING Rockcrok Frequently Asked Product Questions What material is used to make the Rockcrok? Rockcrok is constructed of exclusive high-heat resistant clay that can withstand temperatures up to 752 F (400 C). The clay is glazed on the interior and exterior with a zero-crack glaze that eliminates the need to preseason the product prior to use. Does Rockcrok contain lead or cadmium? Lead is not used in the manufacture of this product. However, since the Rockcrok is made from natural clay, it may contain trace amounts of lead. The Rockcrok has been tested and meets or exceeds all regulations and is food-contact safe. Why is the Rockcrok manufactured in Korea and not the USA? There are currently no US manufacturers that have clay, glaze and manufacturing capabilities that allow stovetop, oven, microwave, broiler and grill cooking to meet our quality needs and expectations. The manufacturer selected was based on several years of thorough testing and research conducted on many products from manufacturers all over the world. How does The Pampered Chef s Rockcrok compare to the competition? The biggest distinctions are the glaze and no preseasoning prior to first use. Rockcrok features a zero-crack glaze, whereas the competition uses a micro-crack glaze. The micro-cracks are most noticeable once the pan is heated. There is potential for liquids and oils to seep through these micro-cracks (most noted in storage). To prevent seepage in competitive products, seasoning before first use is needed (either by boiling milk or preparing rice). The Pampered Chef s Rockcrok requires no preseasoning and is ready to go right out of the box! Over time, cleaning pans that have micro-cracks in the glaze make it difficult to keep the product clean. Even with deep cleaning, competitive products will not come out as clean as Rockcrok. Plus, our glass lid also allows you to cook and look; no other competitive products have this feature. Each Rockcrok comes with a recipe card collection to get you started right away! (The Dutch Oven and Everyday Pan come with 10 recipes each; the Casserole with 8.)

GETTING STARTED Does the Rockcrok have to be seasoned before use? No, it does not. It is ready to use directly out of the box. Can I use my Rockcrok on a gas stovetop? Electric stovetop? Induction stovetop? It is safe to use on all stovetops, with the exception of induction. It does not have any magnetic capabilities to work on induction. Is it oven-safe? Yes, the pan is oven-safe and can be used at any temperature, including under the broiler. The lid is oven-safe to 400 F (200 C); however, it cannot be used under the broiler. Is it microwave-safe? Yes, the pan and lid are microwave-safe. Is it grill-safe? Yes. The pan is grill-safe and can be used on direct or indirect heat on gas or charcoal grills. The lid is not grill-safe. If a lid is needed for grilling, use heavy-duty foil to cover the pan. COOKING What do you mean by dry spots in the Use & Care? Dry spots could occur during stovetop cooking only. These are areas on the interior cooking surface that are not covered with food or liquid and get hot from stovetop cooking. If areas of the bottom of the pan remain dry for extended periods, it may damage the glaze and void the guarantee. For best results, add additional liquid (such as oil or stock) or stir and move foods occasionally when cooking to keep the surface covered and moist. Is cooking with Rockcrok similar to cooking with metal cookware? Cooking with the Rockcrok is different than cooking with metal cookware for the following reasons: 1. Preheating: The pan must be preheated properly. It is a natural tendency for cookware users to crank up the heat when preheating the pan. With the Rockcrok, preheating gradually is important. Preheat for 3-5 minutes on medium heat (preheating range is dependent of your stovetop; 3 minutes is best for gas stovetop, up to 5 minutes for flattop stove). After preheating, the heat

may be gradually increased up to medium-high heat as needed for browning foods. Very rarely is high heat ever needed due to the excellent heat retention. 2. Pan coverage when cooking on stovetop: Keep the interior bottom cooking surface covered with food or liquid to avoid dry spots. If dry spots are noted, follow these tips: Add additional liquid, such as oil or stock. When browning meats or vegetables, add oil in between each batch. Stir and move foods around to keep the vessel bottom surfaces covered with moisture or food. 3. Excellent heat retention: a. Because the pan holds in heat well, the handles may become hot on the stovetop. Always wear protective oven mitt or pad. b. Continue to adjust heat as needed on your stovetop. The pan stays hot, so it may be necessary to lower the heat. c. An added bonus is that the excellent heat retention means meals stay warmer longer. 4. More cooking options and less clean up: Because Rockcrok can be used on any heat source, there is no need to transfer foods to another pan to finish in the oven, microwave or under the broiler. It s truly a one-pot wonder! I noticed some hot spots or uneven browning of food. Why is that occurring? Ceramic cookware heats up differently than metal cookware. It is important to learn to adjust the heat settings as needed when cooking with your Rockcrok. Remember to preheat on medium heat setting or per the directions given for the recipe included with your Rockcrok. As needed, lower the heat and move foods around to help promote even browning. Can I use nonstick spray when cooking? No. Nonstick sprays create an invisible buildup which can be difficult to clean and affect the ease of release of foods. Per the Use & Care, use of nonstick sprays will void the guarantee. Is the glaze a nonstick surface? It is not a nonstick surface, but you will find foods release easily. Can I use metal utensils? No. Metal utensils could cause chipping or damage to the glaze and will void the guarantee. When would I use each Rockcrok? The Dutch Oven is best for soups, stews, chilis, braising large cuts of meat and grilling. It serves 6 or more people, making it perfect for feeding a crowd.

The Everyday Pan is best for weekday meals when serving 4-6 people. It s perfect for browning meats, braising, microwave meals, casseroles and more! The Casserole is just right for side dishes, desserts and appetizers. It s also great for smaller portions of soup, stew and pasta. Can I cook my family s favorite meals in the Rockcrok? Yes. The included recipe cards are just a starting point for you to learn how to use the Rockcrok on multiple heat sources. The recipes provided were also written to follow the guidelines in the Use & Care. If using a personal recipe, it may need to be slightly adjusted (Example: modifying heat levels or ensuring the pan is covered with food or liquid when cooking on the stovetop). Are the handles designed to stay cool when cooking on the stovetop? Because the Rockcrok retains heat very well, the handles will get hot during stovetop cooking. Always wear a protective oven mitt or pad when handling a hot pan or lid. REFRIGERATOR/FREEZER/STORAGE Is it refrigerator-safe? Yes, it is refrigerator-safe. And, the pan can go directly from the refrigerator to oven, stovetop or microwave to reheat food. Is it freezer-safe? Yes, it is freezer-safe. Can I use my Rockcrok to store foods in the refrigerator and then take directly from fridge to stovetop/oven or microwave? Yes. Can I take the Rockcrok directly from freezer to oven (or another heat source)? No. It is recommended to thaw the food in the pan in the refrigerator completely prior to heating in the oven, microwave or stovetop. Can I nest my Rockcrok pieces together when storing in a cabinet? It is not recommended. The ceramic-to-ceramic contact could cause chipping. To prevent scratching or chipping, it is not recommended to stack your Rockcrok with any other cookware. CLEANING How can I remove blackened residues on the inside bottom of the pan? The black residues are from cooked-on food residues (or fond). This is to be expected with this type of cookware. For easiest cleanup, it is recommended to fill the pan with

water and heat on the stovetop. Use a wooden or bamboo spoon to scrape away the residues. Finish cleaning by hand washing or dishwashing. If after dishwashing any residues are still present, try deep cleaning with a non-bleach all-purpose liquid or powdered cleanser that is safe for cookware (Ex: Bar Keeper s Friend or Cameo). Can I remove the residues on the unglazed foot ring on the bottom of the pan? The marks are considered normal wear and tear and cannot be removed. This will not affect the performance of the pan. Why can t I soak the pan for an extended period of time? The bottom foot ring is unglazed. If the pan is soaked for a long duration of time, some water could be absorbed in the foot ring which could cause stress to the ceramic. ROCKCROK AND THE DEEP COVERED BAKER Why is the Rockcrok more expensive? The Rockcrok is more expensive because it features our latest technology with the broadest range of use. It is our only cooking vessel that moves seamlessly from the microwave to stovetop, oven, broiler and grill. It comes with a 5-year guarantee and our cook and look lid is a great convenience. If I can only buy one, which one should I buy? That depends on your budget and how you cook and clean. If you cook most of your meals in the oven or microwave because you need super-easy mealtime solutions, then the Deep Covered Baker is right for you. If you want versatility to use the same pan anywhere and the ability to create a richer taste with flavors that meld together, buy the Rockcrok. And if cleanup in the dishwasher is a top priority, you ll want the Rockcrok. EASY WORD CHOICES WORD CHOICE TO SHARE BOTH THE ROCKCROK AND DEEP COVERED BAKER You might be asking, Should I choose the Rockcrok or the Deep Covered Baker? ROCKCROK AND COOKWARE When should I use my Rockcrok vs. other cookware (Stainless, Executive or All-White Ceramic Cookware*)? The best kitchens have a combination of cookware to handle a variety of cooking needs. Executive Cookware and the All-White Ceramic Cookware are ideal when a nonstick or easy release cooking surface is needed, as when preparing eggs, pancakes, skillet cakes, grilled sandwiches and more! Also great for quick, every day applications like boiling pasta, making rice or when steaming or sautéing vegetables. Both can be used on the stovetop or in the oven up to 400 F (200 C). Stainless Cookware is best for everyday applications and fantastic when wanting to sauté, sear and develop rich pan sauces. Stainless Cookware can be used on the stovetop (including induction), oven and under the broiler. It is also dishwasher-safe. The Rockcrok is a true one-pot wonder! You can use it for all types of applications from browning, braising, baking, grilling and more. Being able to cook an entire meal in one pot develops rich, complex flavors. With the capabilities of going on the stovetop, oven, microwave, broiler and grill, your recipe options are endless! *Note: The All-White Ceramic Cookware is no longer available in our current product line. 2015 The Pampered Chef used under license.
