Our Wines
Our History The story began in Cortona, so beautiful and detached, climbing the hillside of Mount Saint Egidio, It appears as a precious casket inside the old Etruscan walls that dominate the Valdichiana, looking onto terraces of vines and olive groves as far as the eye can see, where Montepulciano gently slips into the land of Siena. The protagonist is Cortona. It was this town that weaved the invisible thread that first attracted two families which fell in love with the town and the territory. The two families, until that moment separated by an ocean and unknown to each other, found themselves neighbors, then friends, and as in a fairy- tale (not yet written) united in the adventure of winemaking. Love for Italy and in particular Tuscany, convinced Andy Goldfarb, a Californian entrepreneur, to whose name is linked the diffusion of the airbag, to settle in Cortona with his family and realize his Tuscan dream. At the same time, Romano Antonioli, a lawyer with his office in Rome, but with a solid family tradition of agricultural enterprise behind him, rose to the challenge and put himself to the test with the vines replanting them in 2004 with the founding of the Società Agricola I Vicini S.r.l. in the locality Poggio Pietraia in Cortona. Inspections and analysis of the soil followed and many meetings took place before deciding on the land with the optimal requirements. The characteristics of the territory and the surrounding microclimate were determinate. The vines of the company I Vicini dominate the hill- side looking towards Cortona, at 310m above sea lev- el and 3 km from Lake Trasimeno, facing south-east. The choice of 22 hectares however is sufficient for the correct techno-producing organization. The vines were replanted with the singular objective to produce wines of excellence. As an authentic Dea Propiziatrice, Cortona has united the families Goldfarb and Antonioli, in their common passion for the world of winemaking, stimulating them to express their love for this land, through their wines. Wines that recount the character of a territory and which represent the proud and elegant spirit, the inheritance of history and of a land marked by an ancestral privilege conceded by Mother Nature, capable of giving unique emotions also, and it must be said, thanks to its wines. The search of the land suitable to the planting of vines was entrusted to Mr Anthony Nigel Dunkley. He was assisted by experienced agronomists who had collaborated with his father Mr John Dunkley well known winegrower of British birth who had for many years operated with success in Tuscany in Gaiole in Chianti with his company Riecine.
