China In China, people celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival. They sail in boats that look like dragons. On this day, everyone eats zong zi. 4 Zong zi are a kind of rice ball. They are wrapped in bamboo leaves. The bamboo leaves give the rice balls their special flavor. Some of the rice balls have fruit inside. Others have meat or beans. 5

Would you be surprised to find a doll in your cake? If you get the piece of cake that has the doll, you get a gold crown. You get to be king or queen for the day. If you don t get the doll, don t worry. You can still have fun eating the cake. France People in France make a special cake called cake for a king. This cake has a surprise inside. The cake s surprise is a tiny doll. 6 7

This girl eats a corncob. A band plays, and everyone eats and dances at a fiesta. Which foods would you enjoy eating? Mexico In Mexico, a party is called a fiesta. Fiestas are all about fun. There are many different foods at a fiesta. The cook stirs a big pot of carnitas. 8 9

At a birthday party everyone is given a special drink. It is made from orange juice, milk, and sugar. It is very good. Would you like to try this drink? If so, just turn the page. Cuba Our last stop is Cuba. A woman is making fresh fruit shakes. They are colorful and sweet. These fruit shakes make any celebration fun. Cubans also like guava. They make a sweet paste from it to put in desserts. 10 11

A Recipe Read Together Think and Share Read Together To make the orange milk drink, you will need: 1 cup of cold orange juice 2 1 cup of cold milk 2 1 tablespoon of sugar Put everything in a tall glass. Stir until it is mixed. Add some ice. Enjoy! 1. Why do people all over the world enjoy special celebrations? 2.
