Community Fund GV Grant- Verney Road School recently received confirmation of a successful application for funding from The Community Fund GV. They have generously donated $9000 towards China 2016: $1000 for each student taking this journey. The trip to China in March 2016 affords our students a chance to participate in a supported overseas experience equivalent to that which students of similar age from mainstream schools experience during their school life. Verney Road School is most grateful for the Community Fund s continued support of our many and varied programs. Many thanks to Prue and Kim for preparing the submission. Anglesea Camp- The second group of Middle Years students travel to Anglesea next Tuesday morning for Eumeralla Camp. Janine Guymer and three Senior Years Hospitality students will be catering for all on the camp. They can look forward to a delicious menu! Thankyou to all the staff who are giving up their time away from their families to support our students 24/7 on this great adventure. Debutante Ball Next Thursday evening 20 students will be presented at our Debutante Ball, which is being held at the GV Hotel. Our students are being partnered by students from Notre Dame College and Goulburn Valley Grammar. Many hours of dance practice has taken place and we are most thankful to Roz Lynch-Jones and Nancy Baker for training our students. We look forward to a very special evening The evening begins at 6 pm. Long Service Leave- Best wishes to Kaye Thomson and Liz Holdsworth who head off on leave next week. Fathers Day Stall Senior students will be holding a Father s Day Stall on Friday, September 4th. Gifts will be very reasonably priced at $1- $7. Any donations to the stall will be gratefully accepted. Last Day of Term School finishes at 2.00pm on Friday September 18th and resumes on Monday 5th October. Janet Gill Kirkman Principal

Ingredients Spinach and ricotta gnocchi with chilli tomato sauce bunches English spinach, ends trimmed, washed, drained 500g fresh firm ricotta 3 free range eggs, lightly whisked 1/2 cup (40g) finely grated parmesan 1/2 cup (75g) plain flour 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 brown onion, finely chopped 2 garlic cloves, crushed 1 long red chilli, seeded, finely chopped 1/2 cup (125ml) white wine 800g can diced tomatoes Parmesan, extra, finely grated, to serve Rocket leaves, to serve Method 1. Place the spinach, with water clinging to leaves, in a large saucepan. Place over high heat. Cook, covered, turning occasionally, for 5 mins or until spinach wilts. Drain in a large colander. Set aside for 5 mins to cool slightly. Use your hands to squeeze as much liquid from the spinach as possible. Finely chop and place in a bowl. 2. Add the ricotta to the spinach and stir until well combined. Add the egg and parmesan and stir to combine. Add the flour and stir to form a soft, sticky dough. 3. Using lightly floured hands, roll tablespoonfuls of mixture into logs. Place on a lightly floured baking tray. 4. Heat the oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic and chilli. Cook, stirring, for 5 mins or until onion softens. Add the wine and bring to the boil. Cook for 2 mins or until wine reduces by half. Add the tomato and cook, stirring occasionally, for 10 mins or until sauce thickens slightly. 5. Meanwhile, bring a large saucepan of water to the boil over high heat. Reduce heat to medium-low. Add onethird of the gnocchi (it will sink to the bottom). Cook for 5 mins or until gnocchi float to the surface and are cooked through. Use a slotted spoon to transfer to a heatproof bowl. Repeat, in 2 more batches, with remaining gnocchi. 6. Spoon the tomato sauce into serving bowls. Divide gnocchi among bowls. Serve sprinkled with extra parmesan and rocket Ingredients 1 baby cos lettuce, leaves separated, torn in half 250g cherry tomatoes, halved Cos and tomato salad 2 Lebanese cucumbers, halved lengthways, thickly sliced diagonally 1 small red onion, cut into thin wedges 1/4 cup small fresh basil leaves 1/4 cup fresh flat-leaf parsley leaves 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil 1 tablespoon red wine vinegar Method 1. We always have a great time when we go to Riding Develops Ability (RDA). We play all sorts of games like musical mats, pass the cushion, egg and spoon races, all while we are on our horses! Trail rides in the bush are also a favourite. Some of us even sneak our horse an apple or two!

Watts on in Welfare? Raising a child with a disability and navigating the maze that is the service system can be a very challenging and daunting experience. There are a range of services out there to help depending on what your family or carer needs are. A great place to start is the local Goulburn Valley Support Group for Children with Special Needs. Give Nicole a call on 5814 3355 to find out all they have to offer. The Support group is a branch of the Association for Children with a Disability (ACD). They have produced a wonderful resource called Through the Maze which is a great guide to help you with what supports and services are available. This guide (in its 8 th edition) can be found online: http://acd.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/acd_through_the_maze_resource_8th_edition_web.pdf or if you would like a hard copy please contact me at school. They also have a lot of other helpful information on their website. www.acd.org.au Bek Watts Welfare Teacher Verney Road

In our room we have been learning about chemical reactions. We have mixed vinegar with Bi-carbonate Soda, observing how it fizzed. We also soaked fresh eggs in a plastic cup filled with vinegar. The vinegar dissolved the eggshell and made the egg swell and harden. We were able to bounce our egg in a metal bowl a couple of times before it broke and it smelled very bad. We have also enjoyed cooking and eating roast chicken, sausages with vegetables and delicious toasted sandwiches.

FATHERS DAY or SPECIAL PERSONS BREAKFAST Dads or Special Person of the student are invited to join us here at Verney Road School for a delicious breakfast Date: Friday, September 4th Time: 8:00 am 9:30 am I.. would love to attend the Father s Day Breakfast with on Friday, September 4th
