However, the course is open to licensed drivers of all ages. Course completion helps older drivers refine existing skills and develop safe driving strategies in today s challenging driving environment. There are no tests required. Al surprised her in May and she had a great time, and so did the other seniors. Her children came and passed out cake while the Mariachi band performed beautifully. Helen, in years past, led the senior musical group named the Merry Makers. They performed for our birthdays here and sometimes would go to other senior locations to perform as she would lead them on the piano. Nowadays, she helps with Bingo when needed and enjoys playing the game. Helen and Al make a good team and enjoy each other s company. Helen has been coming to our center for many years and enjoys it very much! Thanks, Helen. VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH Diabetes Roundtable! Thursday, July 21 10:00 a.m. These meetings offer both preventative and important information on this controllable disease. This is a good time to ask any questions that you might have. 5 It s illegal to throw used syringes in the trash, yard waste barrels, recycling or compost bins NO COST for containers (2 per pick up) Remember, proof of residency and proof of necessity such as prescription is required in order to get a free container. Drop off box located in front of Azusa Senior Center. Residents can also deposit any rigid sealed containers such as soda bottles up to 2-liter in size. Al Alcarez Al Alcarez is a busy volunteer. One of the biggest and ongoing events we have here is our Bingo every Monday. Al is the chairman of the Bingo committee and is doing a great job by purchasing the supplies and games for the weeks ahead. He was recently awarded the honor of Make a Senior Smile and received 2 Rose Parade tickets. He has been wanting to go to the parade and now he will. Al also serves as a member of the Advisory Board and has done so for many years. Al enjoys dancing to swing music and listening to Mariachi music. He s a hardworking volunteer and we appreciate him.
