ORIGIN MATTERS Wines from Argentina that respect their origin. Wines with bases.

Argentina Wine Industry #9 Wine Producer #7 Wine Consumer #10 Wine Exporter (in volume and value) #7 Cultivated Land Fuente: Organización Internacional de la Viña y el Vino (OIV). Estadísticas hasta 2015.

Argentina Wine Industry: Mendoza and Malbec Mendoza Mendoza is a province within the region called Cuyo, the most extensive and most prolific wine region not only in Argentina, but also in South America. The planted area covers 487,312 acres (197,209 hectares), which represents 95.52% of Argentina s total planted surface. Total Grape Production: 1,133,573 short tons (1,028,361 metric tons) Share in National Production: 59 % Main Varieties: Malbec, Bonarda, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Tempranillo, Chardonnay Planted Area: 391,872 acres (158,585 ha) Altitude: 1,500 to 5,577 ft.a.s.l. (457 to 1.700 meters) Latitude: 32.5 to 33.8 South lat. Malbec Red grape variety original from Cahors, in the South-West of France, where it is called Côt. Brought to Argentina by the French agronomist Michel Pouget in 1852. In 1863, the phylloxera plague in France destroyed some varieties, among which was Côt. Thanks to its adaptability to all wine regions in our country, today Argentina is the only country with Malbec vines authentically French. Argentina is the biggest Malbec producer in the world. Malbec primary flavors and aromas: ripe plum, sometimes mint, with wide mouth, and sweet and round tannins. Fuente: Instituto Nacional de Vitivinicultura (INV). Wines of Argentina.

Argentina Wine Industry: Salta and Torrontés Salta The province of Salta is located in the North-West region of Argentina. The region's cultivated area represents less than 3% of Argentina's total. This is one of the highest altitude wine regions in the world, in which some vineyards can be up to 9,840 ft.a.s.l. (3,000 m). Total Grape Production: 22,466 short tons (20,381 metric tons) Share in National Production: 1.16% Main Varieties: Torrontés, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tannat Planted Area: 8,020 acres (3,245 ha) Altitude: 4,920 to 9,840 ft.a.s.l. (1,500 to 3.000 meters) Latitude: 24.8 to 28.5 South lat. Torrontés The only variety considered native from Argentina, planted in all the producing regions from Salta (North) to Río Negro (South). It is only produced in Argentina. The origin of Torrontés is still discussed to this day, although its relationship with the moscatel grape from the European Mediterranean is considered a fact. Torrontés primary flavors and aromas: with fragrant and unmistakable aromas, it is always associated with flowers such as roses, jasmine, geranium and orange blossoms, and a dry mouth. Our Vision Finca el Origen is a high range winery, pioneer in the area of Chacayes, Vista Flores, in Valle de Uco, Mendoza, where we developed a viticulturally virgin region. Our wines represent the communion among climate, soil, pure thawing water and the strength of our people. Transcending with unforgettable wines is our ultimate goal. To achieve that, we take care and strengthen the resources and values that give birth to our wines.

Our Origin 1996 Carolina Wine Brands becomes the first Chilean group to invent in Argentinean viticulture by buying Santa Ana winery. 1999 CWB sells most of Santa Ana winery and decides to keep two estates in Valle de Uco: La Esperanza, in Vista Flores, and Las Pintadas, in Colonia Las Rosas, Valle de Uco. With this change, Finca el Origen is founded. 2013 Finca el Origen launches its icon wine: Finca el Origen Phi. The first harvest is the 2009, and it is a great success, proven by the excellent accolades: 92 by The Tasting Panel Magazine, 93 by Tim Atkin and 93 by Wine Enthusiast. 1998 The plantation of the estate La Esperanza, in Vista Flores, Valle de Uco, begins. 2003 The first Finca el Origen harvest. 2009 Gonzalo Bertelsen is appointed General Manager and Chief Winemaker for Finca el Origen. 2012 The wine Finca el Origen Gran Reserva Malbec 2010 is awarded and International Trophy and Best Value award in the Decanter Asia Wine Awards. This is the only Argentinean wine to receive this award.

Our Terroir: Valle de Uco Valle de Uco The Valle de Uco is a region within the province of Mendoza, integrated by three departments or counties: Tunuyán, Tupungato and San Carlos. This region has gained international prestige in the world of wine and has been established as a privileged place within Argentina. The red wines from Valle de Uco are very intense in color, with strong shades of purple. The aromas reveal ripe fruit, especially red berries. In the mouth, they teng to have pronounced tannins, with good alcohol and medium acidity. There are different factors that make the wines from Valle de Uco so distinctive: HIGH ALTITUDE. Our vineyards are located at 3,300-3,900 ft. (1,000-1,200 meters) above sea level, along the Andes mountain range, where the nights are very cold and the sunlight during the day, very intense. The vines produce thicker grape skins in an attempt to protect the seeds, which translates into wines that are rich in color, tannins and flavors. LOW- FERTILITY DESERT SOILS. With less than 8 inches of rainfall per year, an alluvial, sandy and low fertility soil with large amounts of boulder rocks, and the scarcity of organic matter, the vines in Valle de Uco grow under very restricted conditions. The vines achieve a natural balance and low yields, with small clusters and grapes, which make very concentrated wines. CONTINENTAL WEATHER. The high altitude and big distance from oceans make this area very unique as it is one of the few wine regions in the world with a continental weather and great thermal amplitude. The grape ripening cycle occurs under the burning sun and the cold nights, which concentrates the treasure of its aroma and its flavor. SUSTAINABLE ENVIRONMENT. The pests and diseases typical of humid environments are discouraged in this valley due to its meagre soil and dry continental weather, thus allowing to sustainably manage the land with vinyeards naturally healthy. By doing very little farm work, the vineyards can preserve most of its nutrients.

Our Treasure: Pure Water Water Purity The Argentine viticulture is one of the few in the workd privileged with the exceptional quality of water. The young soils and the awareness in viticultural practices with no polluting activities aim to protect this vital resource. In the Valle de Uco, the virgin snow thawing from the peak of the Andes follows a natural path through rocks of volcanic origin. This naturally filtered and extremely pure, fresh and light water is the water we use to irrigate our vineyards. The grapes retain these characteristics and transfer them to the wine. A bottle of Finca el Origen preserves this limpid treasure that makes our terroir so unique.

Our Micro-Terroir: Vista Flores Vista Flores, Valle de Uco Vista Flores, along with Gualtallary, Altamira and La Consulta, are the most prestigious wine regions in Valle de Uco. Finca el Origen was visionary and a pioneer when arriving at this area. The vineyards in the Northern part of our estate La Esperanza are some of the oldes in the area. It has a sandy loam soil with a high level of boulders and pebbles covered with limestone, which prints lots of minerality and elegance to the wines. This poor deep soil is very permeable and well drained. Its texture lets the grapes ripen very well and the great amount of rocks makes tillage impossible. There is a continental high desert climate with a wide thermal amplitude thanks to the altitude. The vineyards are naturally healthy, due to the aridity and the warm, dry breezes that blow throughout the spring and summer.

Our Winemaking Team Gonzalo Bertelsen Chief Winemaker Gonzalo is an Agricultural Engineer with a specialization in enology and viticulture, graduated from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and has a Masters of Oenology degree by the University of Adelaide, Australia (2007). Having showed a fantastic performance leading two of the most important wineries in Chile and after alternating harvests in France, the United States, Australia and Spain, Gonzalo landed in Mendoza in 2009 as General Manager and Chief Winemaker for Finca el Origen. Since 2012, Gonzalo has also been leading another boutique winery in the group: Viña Casablanca, a joint-venture with Laroche in Chablis, France. Joaquín Ceballos Enology and Production Vice Manager Joaquín is an Agricultural Engineer, specialized in enology and viticulture, graduated in 2009 with a double distinction from the Pontífica Universidad Católica de Chile. After graduating, Joaquín gained experience in Chile and Rivera del Duero, Spain. Upon returning to Chile, he joined Carolina Wine Brands as Viña Casablanca's winemaker. Thanks to the great synergy working with Gonzalo and to his experience producing wines with grapes from cold valleys, in October 2014 Joaquín joined the Finca el Origen team to continue producing wines but now with the fresh grapes from Valle de Uco, in Argentina.
