Moving to the dark side we ve included our hugely popular Cocoa Psycho and alongside that a can of our thunderous new Paradox Rye. We round things off with our brand new release, the collaborative New England IPA we created with our friends at Cloudwater. We hope you enjoy these beers as much as we enjoyed brewing them! James and Martin
PUNK IPA KINGPIN PUNK IPA KINGPIN The beer that started a revolution. Our flagship India Pale Ale was the direct result of James and Martin brewing beer they wanted to drink, based on the influences of the burgeoning American craft beer scene. The resultant trans-atlantic IPA is fresh, full-forward and pays due homage to the India Pale Ales of yesteryear. With explosions of fruity hops at every stage, it is truly a beer to rally behind something we have done since the day BrewDog was formed, ten years ago in 2007. With tropical fruits and light caramel on the nose, the palate becomes assertive and resinous with the New Zealand hops balanced by the biscuit malt. The finish is aggressive, dry and resinous as the hops emerge. This postmodern twist of huge levels of dry-hopping give that characteristic explosion of tropical fruit flavour from start to finish. Style: IPA ABV: 5.6% IBU: 35 Pair with: Chicken Tikka Colour: Light Gold Hops: Simcoe, Chinook, Ahtanum, Cascade, Nelson Sauvin, Amarillo Malts: Extra Pale, Cara Of all the beer styles in all the world, the most bastardised by far are those of the lager family. This redresses the balance. Channelling the spirit of classic German pilsners into a king amongst knaves a true twenty-first century lager Kingpin was designed by our brewteam to balance fullbodied malt character with classic continental hops. The all-malt bill sets the bar for everything that follows. Kingpin is a showcase, pure and simple, designed to return a much-maligned beer style back to the top, where it rightfully belongs. Robust, full-bodied malt character arrives on the palate laying the scene for the arrival of the hops, which follow along soon afterwards. The Magnum and Perle double act bring a one-two of floral notes and spicy citrus bitterness, with the Magnum in particular resulting in a classically assertive Pilsner-style bitterness to the finish. Style: Lager ABV: 4.7% IBU: 40 Colour: Tuna Maki Pair with: Ribs Hops: Magnum, Perle Malts: Pilsner, Pale, Cara, Munich - 4 - - 5 -
5AM SAINT DEAD PONY CLUB 5AM SAINT DEAD PONY CLUB A robust red ale, 5AM is hopped to the brink and back with some of our favourite North American hops and featuring a rich, roasty base of speciality malts for flavour and colour. The second beer we ever dry-hopped (after we had dialled in Punk IPA), this technique transformed one of our existing amber ales The Physics making a roasty, fruit beer so much more. Switching to US hops over English ones, combined with this massive dry-hopping, created this hugely popular beer that has remained in our Headliner range ever since. The nose is a riot of citrus and berry aromas, from orange to lychee to redcurrant. On the palate is a bold resinous bitterness which builds against the burnt sugar sweetness. The finish is clean and the fruity notes linger on. A bitter twist on a classic style, this red ale takes the best of sweet malt and bitter hops and fuses them in perfect harmony. Style: American Red Ale ABV: 5% IBU: 35 Colour: Red-Brown Pair with: Ribs Hops: Cascade, Simcoe, Amarillo, Centennial, Ahtanum, Nelson Sauvin Malts: Extra Pale, Munich, Cara, Crystal, Dark Crystal Our Californian-style session pale was first brewed at the start of 2012, arising because we wanted to bring out a beer that showcased the amazing qualities of US hops, yet at a slightly lower abv. As a result, we took pointers from the classic pale ales of the United States, merging our favourite characters from each into this new style session pale ale. Very quickly it became one of the most popular beers in the BrewDog roster and nowadays sits behind only Punk IPA in our list of best-sellers. Light, aromatic and zesty, Dead Pony Club revels in big citrusy aromas of lime zest and lemongrass against a light caramel backbone. Blossoming resinous hop aromas follow suit. At the first sip, there s light toffee malt before grapefruit and pine come crashing in this pale ale packs a full throttle hop punch, making it a low amplitude, high voltage hop hit. Style: Session Pale Ale ABV: 3.8% IBU: 40 Colour: Golden Pair with: Prawn tempura Hops: Simcoe, Citra, Mosaic Malt: Pale, Cara, Crystal - 6 - - 7 -
JET BLACK HEART JACK HAMMER JET BLACK HEART JACK HAMMER We long wanted to return a dark beer to our Headlining lineup, and after trialling a limited-edition B-Side Milk Stout, the fledgling Jet Black Heart was released into the 2015 Prototype Challenge to see what would happen. What happened was it won the competition at a canter, never polling less than 40% of the overall vote. Our eight malt, two hop, four-legged friend is black as pitch and smooth as hell. The flaked oats and wheat add to the mouthfeel throughout, with the rest of the malt bill setting up a truly smooth, rewarding finish. On the aroma, a depth of roasted coffee beans and chocolate, with raisin and other dark fruits. The first thing that comes to the fore on the taste is the full-bodied richness, with the velvety mouthfeel leading to an intensity of smooth vanilla and dark berry fruit. These flavours in turn lift and amplify the chocolate character into a long, roasty aftertaste. Style: Milk Stout ABV: 4.7% IBU: 30 Pair with: Shin of Beef Stew Colour: Black Hops: Magnum, Sorachi Ace Extras: Milk Sugars, Oatmeal, Wheat Jack Hammer has a long history, having come out of the 2012 Prototype Challenge (where it came second to Cocoa Psycho) and having gone on to firmly become a staff favourite. Our big-hitting India Pale Ale revels in bitterness and hopload, piling both up to near theoretical levels. The first of those in particular, as the International Bitterness Scale only goes up to 100. Jack Hammer tops out well above that as its many firm fans can attest We threw the kitchen sink at Jack Hammer from the first nose the aroma is full-on citrus and pine. With grapefruit, pineapple and lime resonating from start to finish, our ruthless India Pale Ale becomes progressively more bitter and resinous as you go. Style: IPA ABV: 7.2% IBU: 100+ Colour: Golden Amber Pair with: Parmesan and Lemon Chicken Tenders Hops: Amarillo, Centennial, Citra, Columbus, Simcoe Malts: Extra Pale - 8 - - 9 -
ELVIS JUICE PUMP ACTION POET ELVIS JUICE PUMP ACTION POET We first released our small-batch American citrus IPA in mid-2015 as a Prototype loaded with juice it gave the beer a slightly sour edge but from the start we wanted Elvis Juice to be a go-to takeout beer, perfect for picnics, road-trips and other similar occasions. So we worked on the recipe and dialled in the fruitiness on an epic scale, switching to zesty peel inside of the more tart and acidic juice. And the results are very much what we intended Elvis Juice revitalised and fully Amplified. Bursting with layer upon layer of grapefruit and tangerine from the judicious amount of zested peel playing off the five different US hops, Elvis is truly citrus on top of citrus. With a baseline of caramel malt, the waves of crashing orange, grapefruit and pine can take centre stage. Style: IPA ABV: 6.5% IBU: 40 Pair with: Grapefruit Soufflé Hops: Amarillo, Citra, Magnum, Mosaic, Simcoe Malts: Cara, Extra Pale Extras: Grapefruit Peel Our latest small-batch canned release comes hot on the heels of Semi- Skimmed Occultist, and where that beer was dark and redolent this one is light, juicy and moreish. We love the interplay between flavours from hops and other ingredients and Pump Action Poet explores this ideal from start to finish. The addition of peach and apricot enhances the flavours of stonefruit naturally present in some of our favourite US hops, yielding a perfect partnership in a beer fit for summer (if it arrives eventually). Aromas of juicy peach, apricot and nectarine fall out of the glass the baseline of biscuity malt and smoothness of wheat and oats boosts the mouthfeel whilst supporting these delicate but enormously satisfying stone fruit flavours. Country: Scotland Style: IPA ABV: 7.5% Pair with: Chicken and Maple Bacon Salad Hops: Amarillo, Simcoe, Citra Malts: Pale, Wheat, Oats Extras: Peach, Apricot - 10 - - 11 -
ELECTRIC INDIA COCOA PSYCHO ELECTRIC INDIA COCOA PSYCHO This beer is our attempt to embrace the perfect hybrid a meeting of two equally formative brewing worlds. Electric India embraces the spicy notes of a Belgian saison and combines them with the punchy new world hops of an American IPA. Originally created by our legion of shareholders at an Equity Punk brewday in 2013 (a group ever with their fingers on the pulse), the key to this balancing act is the deployment of the hopload late in the kettle and then into the whirlpool as well. This balance gives the spicy, fruity edge of the European style and the orange and grapefruit citrus of the US favourite. With the addition of crushed peppercorns and honey, the beer ends with a lift of peppery spice that truly complements the fruity elements evident in each of these twinned styles. Country: Scotland Style: Saison ABV: 5.2% Pair with: Pad Thai Hops: Amarillo, Nelson Sauvin, Enigma Malts: Extra Pale, Munich, Wheat Extras: Honey, Peppercorns, Coriander Seeds Cocoa Psycho is one of the most asked-for beers in our inventory, and we know exactly why. It is pure liquid indulgence the balance of the six different malts and added chocolate and coffee gives this beer a body like no other. This is very much a nod to the history of high-strength stouts that found their fame in the courts and palaces of the Tsars of the East. A style steeped in history, Cocoa Psycho is our nod to the passage of time and the permanence of brewing within it. A rich, opulent ink-black stout, on pouring the beer greets you with an evocative aroma of molasses, dark chocolate and roasted coffee beans. The palate features a steadily rising swell of bitter chocolate, vanilla, mocha and a touch of sweet woodsmoke. Country: Scotland Style: Russian Imperial Stout ABV: 10% Pair with: Chocolate Ganache Hops: Cascade Malts: Extra Pale, Wheat, Dark Crystal, Smoked, Black, Roasted Barley Extras: Coffee Beans, Cacao Nibs - 12 - - 13 -
PARADOX RYE / CLOUDWATER NEW ENGLAND IPA PARADOX RYE NEW ENGLAND IPA As a liquid interpretation of what brewing can achieve Paradox sets out its stall from the beginning. Every few months we dial in a brew of our resonant imperial stout and consign it to the timber embrace of a select group of different barrels. This latest iteration stands out for two particular reasons firstly, it dives deep into the flavour of the American frontier with the liquor that won the West being embedded in its DNA, and secondly we have brought it into the twenty-first century by releasing it in cans. The peppery spice and toasted oak ingrained within the incredible barrels has imbued our imperial stout with a stunning depth of both aroma and flavour. At the same time, the rye has yielded layers of espresso, molasses and chocolate liqueur and the added warmth of campfire whiskey. Style: Imperial Stout ABV: 15% IBU: 100 Pair with: Rye Whiskey Hops: Columbus, Saaz, First Gold Malts: Pale, Munich, Cara, Dark Crystal, Carafa, Flaked Oats Extras: Rye Whiskey Barrel-Ageing We know our way around a hop store, and Cloudwater certainly do with their unmissable DIPA series and singlehopped session beers. So when Paul and the team first came up to Ellon we had to push the deliberations towards that part of the brewing spectrum. And the result we came up with was to work on the style of the moment a New England IPA, as pioneered by the craft breweries of Vermont and the upper North-Eastern United States. Characteristically hazy they are subtle, balanced and rewardingly fruity. The Vermont yeast and oats leave the beer with that trademark smooth mouthfeel as required by the style, but there are hints of spice in there too. The Mosaic provides a slightly tropical edge but, above all, this beer is about the stone fruit flavours. Country: Scotland Style: New England IPA ABV: 8.5% Colour: Red-Brown Pair with: Orange and Cardamom Cake Hops: Citra, Mandarina Bavaria, Mosaic Malts: Pale, Wheat, Flakes Oats Brewed with: Cloudwater - 14 - - 15 -
