INTERNATIONAL CRAFT BEER COMPETITION Alamesa, S.L. Consulting Gastro-Enológico convenes the second edition of CICA AWARDS 2017, International Craft Beer Competition. Final Tastings from June 14th to 15th, 2017. Alamesa S.L. and all collaborating entities pursue with these CICA Awards the following objectives: It tries to raise consumer awareness about the quality and diversity of the different craft beers in the world. The Competition wants to recognize the traditions of the craft beer industry, as well as the different customs in each country. The Competition also promotes the responsible consumption of an alcoholic beverage. The Competition wants to show that the great quality that exists in the world of craft beer has no borders. The Competition wants to recognize all the styles of craft beer that are consumed around the world. Spread the culture of beer consumption as a healthy fermented drink. Give prestige and recognition to beer sommeliers.
RULES OF THE CONTEST INTERNATIONAL CRAFT BEER COMPETITION 2017 ARTICLE 1rt.- SCOPE OF THE CONTEST The scope of the International Competition CICA (from now on, the Competition) only includes all beers elaborated under craft techniques. Participation is not limited geographically from any source. In addition to the registration form, a copy of the certificate that certifies your craft beer license in your country or region must be attached. The competition will be open to individuals and legal entities, associations and entities, which are producers of craft beer. ARTICLE 2nd.- INTERNATIONAL BEER COMPETITION This Competition is International. Any craft brewer of any nationality can participate. CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION ARTICLE 3th.- BEERS THAT COULD PARTICIPATE AT THE CONTEST Beers submitted to the Competition must be included in one of the categories listed in Annex I. ARTICLE 4th.- REGISTRATION FEE The registration fee is 100 for the first sample of craft beer and 80 for each one of the additional samples presented by the same beer company (tax free). The registration fee must be paid to the current bank account: Alamesa, S.L. The registration fee will not be refunded in case they do not reach their destination due to loss or breakage, nor those received outside the established period, or that are excluded from the Competition due to non-compliance with the call rules. Any extra costs generated at the customs house will be paid by the contestant. The organization will confirm by mail the receipt of the merchandise and the payment of the registration. Also, the organization will send the corresponding invoice with the fiscal data received.
ARTICLE 5th.- APPLICATIONS AND PLACE OF PRESENTATION In the registration form (Annex II), the following information must be completed: Complete and accurate identification of the participant and the fiscal data of the company to which the invoice must be remitted. Exact product designation. Brewers have to consent the following requirements: The brewery is licensed for commercial manufacture in its country. The brewery is open and operating with all required permits. The brewery has at least one beer that is commercially available for retail sale. Brewers, domestic brewers and other breweries that do not meet these criteria are not eligible to participate. If a brewery does not meet these eligibility requirements by June 1th, 2017, it will be subject to unannounced disqualification from the Contest and no refund of fees will be issued. All beers entered in the Contest must be available on the market for retail sale before June 1rt, 2017. All breweries should clearly label each bottle or beer must be sent with the following information:
Beer packaging: o Name of the brewery. o Name of the beer. o Category and subcategory (Annex I) in which the beer will be judged. This information must match the categories of the Contest. Pack your beers to resist the transportation. The Contest is not responsible for shipments. The organization will contact breweries if broken bottles are received. Quantities: Number of bottles/cans to be sent for competition depends on the size of the bottle/can. Use the following guide: Numbers of bottles/cans to be sent 8 6 4 Size of the bottle/can 200 ml (7 oz) a 322 ml (10,9 oz) 323 ml (11 oz) - 588 ml (19,9 oz) 589 ml (20 oz) and more All samples for the Contest must be commercially available, be fermented malt drinks and be made by an authorized commercial brewery. "Commercially available" means available for retail sale at the time of registration. ARTICLE 6th. DIRECTIVE COMMITEE The Competition will be developed under the authority of the Directive Committee whose mission is to ensure the perfect development of preparation and examination of the samples, as well as the communication of the final results. The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and the Union of Spanish Associations of Sommeliers may appoint a representative to be part of the Presidential Table. ARTICLE 7th. THE CONTEST MANAGER The purpose of the Contest Manager is to ensure its development in accordance with this Regulation: Ensure the perfect development of the preparation and examination of the samples and the communication of the results. Choose the members of the jury. Check the order of presentation of the beers. Verify compliance with current regulations.
ARTICLE 8th. CONTEST DEVELOPMENT About the Director of the Competition: The Director shall define and adopt the rules he deems appropriate for the proper development of the Competition, ensuring compliance with these regulations. About the jury members: All members of the jury will have high technical capacity, will be experts in sensorial analysis of beers, Brewers, Sommeliers or Journalists. Persons who demonstrate a high qualification in the field of the brewery may also be incorporated into the jury by decision of the organization or its Director. The members of the jury will be designated "intuitu personae" and may be replaced only by the authority that appointed them. The organizer must ensure that no person who has a business relationship with the sample presented can taste their own products to ensure the professionalism, independence and transparency of the results. The organization will take special care not to include any jury that has a professional relationship with any of the beers presented to the contest. To calculate the final results, a score will be assigned to each sample, and finally the final average will be calculated among all the scores of the members of the jury. The tasting of the beers will be made by the blind tasting system. The decision of the jury will be unappealable. ARTICLE 9th. THE JURY 1. 1. The Contest Director will be able to gather all members of the jury to share opinions. 2. The jury will comply with the rules of this Regulation. This will be available during the development of the Competition. 3. Each member has to respect the absolute anonymity of all samples. 4. Each member will have to fill out the tasting card of the presented sample and sign it. 5. In tasting sessions, which will be held preferably in the morning, each member of the jury will not be able to taste more than 15 samples per day: three sets of five beer samples. ARTICLE 10th. - ORDER OF PRESENTATION AND TEMPERATURE OF THE SAMPLES The presentation of the samples shall be made by successive homogeneous series in the following order: 1. Lager 2. Pilsner 3. Porter 4. Stout 5. Smoket An order will be established according to style and bitterness.
The temperature of the beer tasting will be the average of the temperature according to the samples sent to the competition according to the different categories: Wheat Pale Ale English, Scottish and Irish Ale Belgian Ale Dark Ale Soft and Hybrid Ale Lagers Acids Special Beers ARTICLE 11th. AWARDS The tastings will be anonymous and all samples will be hidden and with no possibility of identification. The tasting sessions will be on June 14th and 15th, 2017. The jury will award, in each category, the prizes according to the following scores: GRAND GOLD: 92 100 points. GOLD: 85-91 points. SILVER: 80-84 points. The total number of awards cannot exceed 40% of the total number of samples submitted to the competition, nor will it exceed this 40% in each of the categories of the competition. In all categories, the awards will be consisting on a diploma. Prize-winning breweries may not use the logo of the Contest, or the award badge awarded, or reproduce their images in bottles / cans, brochures or other advertising media, without prior authorization from Alamesa, S.L. The organization will have identification for use by the winning beers in their bottles/cans. These stickers will be invoiced according to necessary volumes, according to the tariff published before the awards ceremony and derogations will be granted. Distinctions awarded may only be used in the labeling of the prize beer and only when it can be credited with a certificate issued by the organization after its award. The three best rated beers of each category will be submitted to a popular tasting during the day of delivery of diplomas. Attendees of the event will value the beers in scoring ballot, choosing the best beer of CICA 2017. ARTICLE 12th.- ADVERTISING The results of the Contest will be published truthfully. Brewers that wish to put in their winning beers a label that certifies a medal can be purchased to the Contest. It is forbidden design or place in the bottle an unofficial label about the Contest. ARTICLE 13th. IN ACCORDANCE WITH THESE RULES The signed and sealed registration form is required to participate in CICA 2017 Awards.
