The hadle is desiged for removig / isertig the grill pa uder the grill whe grillig. If cleaig the grill pa whe it is hot, use ove gloves to move it. Do ot use the hadle to pour hot fats from the grill pa. Food for grillig should be positioed cetrally o the trivet.

Usig the Grill Usig the grill The temperature of the grill is variable, ad ca be adjusted by turig the grill cotrol to the required settig. Settig 5 is high ad 1 is low. Tur the grill cotrol kob either clockwise to use the full grill settigs, or aticlockwise to use the ecoomy grill settigs. The ecoomy grill settigs oly use the ier elemet of the grill. The speed of grillig ca also be cotrolled by selectig a higher or lower shelf positio. It is recommeded that the high temperature settig is used for toastig ad for cookig foods such as baco, sausages or steaks. Use a higher shelf positio. For thicker foods such has chops or chicke joit pieces, the temperature may be reduced to a lower settig. Use a lower shelf positio. The trivet positio ca also be adjusted as detailed below; The grill trivet iside the grill pa ca be iverted to give a high or low positio, or it may be removed altogether. For toastig, use the highest trivet positio. The lower trivet positio is useful for grillig all types of meat or fish. With the grill trivet removed the food is placed directly o the base of the grill pa - eg; whe cookig whole fish, or browig dishes such as cauliflower cheese. Push the grill pa to the back of the shelf to positio it uder the cetre of the grill. Never allow fat to build up i the grill pa, as this creates a fire hazard. Alumiium foil Usig alumiium foil to cover the grill pa, or puttig items wrapped i foil uder the grill, creates a fire hazard, ad the high reflectivity may damage the grill elemet. 11

Grillig guide Grill shelf positios Shelf positios are couted from the top dow - shelf 1 is the highest. Usig the Grill Grillig times The times give i the grillig guide are based o a grill pre-heated at full rate. The grillig times give are approximate, as differeces i thickess, size of portio ad persoal preferece will ifluece timig. For optimum results whe grillig, the temperature should be varied where required, usig the full o ad tur dow settigs. Usig the Oves Cautio: Accessible parts may be hot whe the ove is used. Youg childre should be kept away. Your rage cooker has two electric oves - a left had side covetioal ove, ad a right had side faed ove. The oves ca be used idividually or together. As they are high efficiecy oves you may otice a emissio of steam whe the door is opeed. Please take care whe opeig the door. We recommed that you hold the udereath of the ove door hadle There are 15 shelf positios i each ove - with ample space for batch bakig or for the cookig of more ambitious meals, as well as for everyday cookig. With careful choice of dishes / tis, it is possible to cook a complete meal ad somethig for the freezer i the ove at the same time - this is more ecoomical as it saves time ad fuel. Ove furiture Bakig trays ad roastig tis For best cooked results ad eve browig, the maximum size bakig trays ad roastig tis that should be used are as follows; Bakig tray 290 mm x 270 mm. This size of bakig tray will hold up to 16 small cakes. Roastig ti 320 mm x 270 mm. We recommed that you use good quality cookware. Poor quality trays ad tis may warp whe heated, leadig to ueve bakig results. Ove shelves The ove shelf must be positioed towards the rear of the ove, with the upstad facig upwards. Positio bakig trays ad roastig tis o the middle of the shelves, ad leave oe clear shelf positio betwee shelves, to allow for circulatio of heat. Warmig plates / dishes i the ove Use the lowest temperature settig, ad place the plates / dishes o the bottom shelf. Always esure that plates / dishes are oveproof. 13

Usig the Oves Cookig with a covetioal ove The left had side ove is a covetioal ove. To switch o, tur the ove cotrol kob ati-clockwise to the desired temperature settig. To switch off, retur the cotrol kob to the off positio. C a u t i o : The top elemet gets extremely hot whe i use, so take care to avoid touchig it. Importat: Never put items directly o the base of the ove or cover with foil, as this may cause the elemet to overheat. Covetioal oves are ideal for the cookig of foods which require slightly differet temperatures. The temperature i the ove varies - with the top beig slightly hotter due to heat risig, ad the base slightly cooler - ad is more suited to traditioal cookig. Heat distributio The temperature at the cetre of the ove correspods with the selected temperature settig ad is slightly hotter towards the top of the ove ad slightly cooler towards the base. This variatio is kow as zoes of heat. Usig the zoes of heat The zoes of heat are useful as several dishes requirig differet temperatures may be cooked i the ove at the same time. Dishes requirig a slightly hotter temperature should be placed towards the top of the ove, ad those requirig a lower temperature o a lower shelf positio. Do ot use the ove base as a cookig positio. A complete meal may be cooked i the ove takig advatage of the zoes of heat. By usig the ove space effectively, full use is made of the fuel which is heatig the ove. Preheatig whe usig the covetioal ove The ove must be preheated for 15 m i u t e s whe cookig froze or chilled foods, ad we recommed preheatig whe cookig sesitive items such as soufflés, batter mixes ad yeast mixtures. It should be remembered that the times give i the cookig guide are based o a p r e h e a t e d ove. If you do ot preheat, the cookig times may eed to be exteded. 14

Usig the Oves Cookig with a faed ove The right had side ove is a faed ove. To switch o, tur the ove cotrol kob ati-clockwise to the desired temperature settig. To switch off, retur the cotrol kob to the off positio. If you have bee used to cookig with a covetioal ove, you will fid that there are a umber of differeces to cookig with a faed ove, which will require a slightly differet approach. It is useful to remember the followig poits: Foods are cooked at l o w e r temperatures i a faed ove tha i a covetioal ove. Please refer to the coversio guide o page 22 Temperatures give i recipes ad o packages should therefore be reduced. Cookig times will geerally be shorteed by betwee 5-10 miutes per hour, tha those give i recipe books for covetioal cookig. There are o zoes of heat i a faed ove. The covectio fa at the back of the ove esures a eve temperature throughout the ove. This allows for batch cookig / batch bakig, which is advatageous whe plaig a party, or stockig the freezer. There is little flavour trasfer i a faed ove, which meas that strog smellig foods ca be cooked at the same time as other foods. For example, fish ca be cooked at the same time as a milk puddig. Whe batch bakig foods that will rise durig cookig - eg; bread or Yorkshire puddigs - always esure that eough space has bee left betwee the shelves used, to allow for the rise. Complete meals ca be cooked together, at lower temperatures, ad more quickly, therefore savig o time ad fuel. Whe two or more shelves are i use it may be ecessary to icrease the cookig time slightly. Whe roastig meats, you will otice that fat splashig is reduced, which is due i part to the lower ove temperatures, ad will help to keep cleaig of the ove to a miimum. As the faed ove cooks food at a eve temperature, there is o eed to iterchage dishes partway through cookig, as with a covetioal ove. The ove base ca be used as a cookig positio. 15

Usig the Oves Preheatig Preheatig is ot geerally ecessary whe usig the faed ove, as the ove heats up quickly. However, we do recommed preheatig for froze ad chilled foods. Whe cookig sesitive such as scouffles ad Yorkshire puddigs or, whe cookig bread, we recommed that the ove is preheated util the eo switches off. For all other types of cookig a preheat is ot required. Coolig ad Defrostig i the Faed ove The faed ove has a Defrost settig. To defrost froze foods, tur the ove cotrol to the defrost positio, place the food i the cetre of the ove ad close the door. To cool foods after cookig prior to refrigeratig or freezig, tur the ove cotrol to the defrost positio, ad ope the door. Defrostig times Small or thi pieces of froze fish or meat, eg; fish fillets, praws ad mice, will take approximately 1-2 hours. Placig the food i a sigle layer will reduce the thawig time. A medium sized casserole or stew will take approximately 3-4 hours. A 1 1 2kg (3lb) ove ready chicke will take approximately 5 hours, remove the giblets as soo as possible. Be safe m Do ot defrost stuffed poultry usig this method. m m m Do ot defrost larger joits of meat ad poultry over 2kg (4lb) usig this method. Never place ucooked food for defrostig ext to cooked food which is to be cooled, as this ca lead to cross cotamiatio. Defrostig meat, poultry ad fish ca be accelerated usig this method but make sure they are completely thawed b e f o r e cookig thoroughly. Place meat ad poultry o a trivet i a meat ti. 16

Whe usig the faed ove, there is o eed to iterchage trays or items. For best results o more tha 16 cakes of 5-6cm (2-2 1 2 ) should be cooked o a tray. If cookig more tha oe item / tray, cookig times may eed to be icreased. Where additioal browig of the bases is required - eg; pies ad pastries - iterchage part way through cookig. Eough space must be left betwee dishes / tis used ad the ove sides, to allow for air circulatio. Do ot lie the ove shelves or the ove base with foil as this ca hider heat circulatio ad lead to impaired cookig performace. Do ot make larger sizes of cakes tha the ove ca cope with. You should allow at least 2.5cm (1 ich) space betwee the ove walls ad the ti. Remember to place food cetrally o the ove shelf ad leave at least 1 clear shelf positio betwee each shelf used to allow free circulatio of heat. Whe bakig, do ot ope the door more tha absolutely ecessary, especially whe bakig sesitive items such as soufflés ad cakes. Cooked results are a matter of persoal preferece ad may be easily adjusted by selectig differet shelf positios to those recommeded i the cookig guide. If you prefer a darker cooked result, the select higher shelf positios. Cookig times may eed to be adjusted slightly whe shelf positios other tha those recommeded i the cookig guide are used. Whe batch cookig foods that will rise durig cookig - eg; bread - always esure that eough space has bee left betwee the ove shelves used, to allow for the rise. Usig the Oves Helpful hits for roastig Whe cookig stuffed meat or poultry, calculate the cookig time from the total weight of the meat plus the stuffig. Cookig joits i foil, covered roasters, lidded casseroles, or roastig bags will help to reduce meat shrikage, give a more moist result ad may reduce fat splashig. However, a slightly loger cookig times will be required, a d d 5-10 miutes per 450g (1lb) to the calculated cookig time. Whe usig roastig bags do ot exceed the temperatures recommeded by the maufacturer, ad do ot allow the roastig bag to touch the sides or top of the ove. Smaller joits weighig less tha 1.25kg (2 1 2lb) may require 5 miutes per 450g (1lb) extra cookig time. Use of a trivet with the roastig ti will reduce fat splashig durig ope roastig, ad will help to keep the ove iterior clea. To further reduce ay fat splashig, potatoes or other vegetables ca be roasted aroud the joit. The use of a roastig ti larger tha that recommeded is ot advised, as this may impair performace ad lead to exteded cookig times. Roast turkey Roastig turkey ivolves cookig two differet types of meat - the delicate light breast meat, which must ot be allowed to dry out, ad the darker leg meat, which takes loger to cook. The turkey must be roasted log eough for the legs to cook, so frequet bastig is ecessary. The breast meat ca be covered oce browed. Turkey should be roasted at 190 C - Covetioal / 160 C - Faed for 20 miutes per 1lb - plus 20 miutes - uless packagig advises otherwise. The turkey ca be ope roasted, breast side dow, for half of the cook time, ad the tured over for the remaider of the cookig time. If the turkey is stuffed, add 5 miutes per 1lb to the cookig time. If roastig turkey covered with foil, add 5 miutes per 1lb to the cookig time. To test if the turkey is cooked, push a fie skewer ito the thickest part of the thigh. If the juices ru clear, the turkey is cooked. If the juices are still pik, the turkey will eed loger cookig. 24
