The TQ mixes contain no fewer than three exclusive types of maize. The first is Bordeaux red maize with its characteristic dark red colour. Bordeaux red maize is rich in sugars and a real energy booster. There is also popcorn maize a small, round type of maize that is quickly and easily ingested by young pigeons. Orange Gritz maize has not long been used in pigeon mixes but has already become a staple component at Teurlings. Teurlings Boostmix is a pellet rich in vitamins, minerals, trace elements and amino acids. The pellet takes care of a pigeon s natural need for animal protein thanks to the addition of whey powder. Pigeons use animal protein more readily because it is absorbed into their body more quickly than proteins from pulses. This rapid absorption boosts their recovery after a flight. Pigeon feed consists mainly of grains and seeds, which are naturally low in the essential amino acid lysine. For optimum development, growth, muscle building and maintenance, it is important that amino acids are present within a certain ratio. If there is not enough of any one amino acid, then this will limit growth and development. Some of the nutrients will leave the body unused. The addition of extra methionine and lysine to our pellets ensures a good ratio of amino acids and encourages better utilisation of the dietary protein in the grains and seeds.
