Seed Definitions

Action by the Board The seed definitions as approved and recommended by the Standards Committee presented to this meeting of the Board of Directors are approved for presentation to the Annual Meeting of the WBFI on November 6, 2004 for approval for posting on the WBFI web site together with a form that provides for approval by WBFI members or request for changes to be submitted to the WBFI office on or before February 1, 2005.

Action by the Membership Saturday, November 6, 2004 Posting of the seed definitions on the WBFI web site together with a form that provides for approval by the WBFI members or request for changes to be submitted to the WBFI office on or before February 1, 2005, and authorization for the Board of Directors to take such further action with respect to standards as deemed necessary are hereby approved

Adopted by Board on 2-15-05 Committee reviewed industry votes and proposed revisions on 2-14-05 and revised slides accordingly Definitions removed from adoption by the Board pending further review by Committee included: Soybean Meal Peanut Meal Soy Flour The term FAQ was removed from all definitions to respond to concerns expressed by retailers at BWA. Issue of bushel weight calculations (Avery vs. Winchester) will be further investigated and definitions may be revised.

Adopted by Board on 11-10-15 Committee reviewed industry comments on Grit and Ingredient named must be present in the mix and Committee recommended no further revisions and proposed adoption. By Board action, these two items were officially included in the WBFI Quality Standards program.

Standards Logo Usage The logo is your tool to quickly and recognizably demonstrate to the consumer that the product they are purchasing meets industry standards. The logo may be used on packaging for products that meet industry standards and that are registered with the WBFI Products must be registered with the WBFI prior to use of the logo on packaging. Waste Free Mixes Also called No Waste Mixes Defined as a Mix Containing: Desirable ingredients as defined by the WBFI Bird Preference Chart All ingredients must be 99% shell free and meet all points of the individual adopted WBFI Seed Definitions Packaging Guidelines: All ingredients must be listed and in order of preponderance in the ingredient section. The ingredient statement must identify each ingredient specifically. No groupings such as grain products or mixed nuts, etc. The label must meet all current AAFCO and government guidelines.

Waste Free Mixes Also called No Waste Mixes Purity: Minimum 99% Shell free: Minimum 99% Test Weight: N/A Moisture: Maximum 10% No mold or objectionable odor or live infestation present at time of If Peanuts or Tree Nuts Pieces are used in a Waste Free or No Waste Mix, the Allergen Statement should be used in its entirety on packaging. No Nyjer, Millet, or other birdseed ingredient that includes a seed in a shell may be used. Fruits are considered shell free ingredients.
