Introduction Drive-Thru Menu Math: Multiply & Divide Money gives students an opportunity to practice using math in real-life situations. Students learn such skills as reading a menu, figuring food costs, making change, finding how much more money is needed to purchase an item, computing how much money is left over after making a purchase, and totaling receipts. Calculating sales tax and discounts are introduced in this book with the help of step-by-step instructions. As students work the activities, their confidence in reading a menu and figuring the costs associated with it will increase. The book includes four colorful, realistic drive-thru menus for four different fastfood restaurants. To complete the activities, students refer to the menus to find the prices for menu items in the problems. Activities include computations problems and practical application word problems involving multiplication and division, as well as addition and subtraction. For students who need a refresher on multiplying or dividing money, step-by-step instruction pages are located throughout the book. The menus to be used for each activity are indicated in the upper right-hand corner of each page. Specific math skills used on the page are listed there as well. A general directory of skills may be found in the Table of Contents. The activities were created for students in grades 4-6 who are struggling with money math skills and are reading at a grade 3-4 reading level.
