This newsletter is produced by St. Madeleine's students in the Theresa & Edward O'Toole Foundation Adaptive Computer Learning Center. April 2014 Sophie s Gazette St. Madeleine s Community Garden Our consumers currently maintain an organic community garden called New Roots Fresh Farm. This project, organized by the International Rescue League, has proven an excellent outreach for our consumers and a bridge to the greater community. Three times a week, four hard working consumers and a job coach maintain every aspect of planting, growing and harvesting. The project s goal is to supply our kitchen with fresh produce on a weekly basis. Aven Halcomb, one of our dedicated gardeners says, I like the community garden. I do weeding, watering and plant new plants. I also help harvest lettuce, carrots, cabbage, spinach and kale. I like working in the community garden because it is relaxing and fun. I hope you guys like the vegetables I help bring. The Community Garden Coordinator, Ann Baron, recently commended our workers for their efforts and commented that the garden is just beautiful. Hope s Week Festivities The Weather Report Page 4 This weekend Noah Homes had a picnic with the families from Noah Homes. The next week I plan to go to San Diego State to exercise with my aides from San Diego State on Tuesday and Thursday. On Monday, I do computers and swim team in the afternoon. On Wednesday, I think I m going to Sophie s to work on painting flowers for Morning Glory Brunch or maybe working on my green dress painting fruit on the dress from silk screen printing from the art students from the Sophie s Gallery. In the afternoon I return to the swimming pool to swim with the team. When Friday comes sometimes I go to the loom or may be back to Sophie's Gallery to do many different things to do with art work with Hope Hodson the art class. This coming Sunday I m walking to raise money for different disabled programs for East County in a walk.
