PARADOX GRAIN 2018 PARADOX GRAIN 2018 Pouring like Indian ink, it clings to the glass like sherry. Huge aromas of molasses unfold into bitter cacao, raisin, and cocoa-dusted chocolates, with a touch of woodsmoke. On the palate it s warming; there s more than a nod to Dog F here, with the spirit character of the wood providing an almost chililike heat. As the beer warms, it softens and out comes the mocha flavour espresso blended with liquid chocolate. Our longest running beer series, Paradox sees us ageing an imperial stout in different types of cask. Paradox is always brewed using the same base recipe, and the whisky or spirit casks it ages in impart their own flavour, making every batch (and in fact, every barrel) of Paradox different. Time plays an integral role in elevating this beer to unchartered realms, with the beer spending a total of 575 days in the cask. Style: Barrel Aged Imperial Stout ABV: 13.5% Pair with: Stilton covered sliders Hops: Saaz, First Gold, Columbus Malts: Extra Pale, Cara, Munich, Extra Dark Crystal, Carafa, Flaked Oats - 4 -
BOTTLEBOX JET BLACK HEART (AND JET BLACK HEART NITRO) JET BLACK HEART NITRO Jet Black Heart is a vanilla milk stout brewed to be smooth as hell, we use wheat and oats in the mash as well as milk sugar to add sweetness. Dark malts combine with the addition of vanilla to bring flavours of chocolate milkshake and iced mocha, giving way to decadent cocoa, rich fruity coffee, and cinder toffee. By turning the cans over a few times, then pouring the beer hard into a pint glass, the nitrogen bubbles are released from solution, and these tiny pockets rise up and create the distinctive cascading head which has become the hallmark of the style. This smooth and roasty oatmeal milk stout won our 2015 Prototype Challenge at a canter, polling never less than 40% of the overall vote, at any stage. For a long time we have wanted to return a dark beer to our Headliner range Jet Black Heart is that beer. A range of eight different malts have been unleashed in its creation, leading to a level of complexity seldom seen in other stouts. Style: Nitro Vanilla Milk Stout ABV: 4.7% Pair with: Shin of beef stew Hops: Magnum, Sorachi Ace Malts: Extra Pale, Crystal, Dark Crystal, Brown, Black, Highly Kilned, Flaked Oats, Wheat - 5 -
DOGMA DOGMA Starting with an enveloping aroma of dark caramel and honeycomb, this beer has a distinctive depth of character that conveys warmth and tradition. Brewed with ten different types of malt before the addition of Scottish heather honey gives Dogma an unmistakable flavour profile. The malts combine for a toasty, nutty backdrop and are joined by other flavours such as dried fruits, toffee, molasses and a slightly spicy, dry finish. This is Scottish beer turned on its head; history made relevant. Dogma was originally launched as Speedball in 2008 due to the fact that the beer is a combination of active stimulants and depressants with the beer having Hops and Poppy (depressants) and Guarana and Kola Nuts (stimulants). Every now and then, this classic wee heavy brewed with honey and an alarmingly long malt bill has reappeared. 10 years since it was first saw the light of day, Dogma is back. Style: Scotch Ale ABV: 7.4% Pair with: Sticky Toffee Pudding Hops: Saaz, First Gold Malts: Pale, Munich, Cara, Crystal, Extra Dark Crystal, Amber, Brown, Chocolate, Smoked, Wheat, Oats Additions: Cocoa Nibs, Cinnamon, Chili, Coffee, Vanilla - 6 -
BOTTLEBOX SONIC BOOM New German Hop IPA 6.5% SONIC BOOM The first release in our new IPA series is aimed at showcasing new experimental hop variates from this year s harvest in Yakima, Washington State. Prepare yourself for an IPA loaded with craft essential C hops with Columbus, Cascade and Centennial taking centre stage. We re always looking for ways to give our talented brewers free reign to experiment and push the boundaries of beer. So we re replacing our single hop series with a new experimental IPA series, giving our brew team the freedom to experiment with hops, while the base beer will remain unchanged from release to release. Style: Experimental IPA ABV: 6.5% Pair with: Goan Curry Malts: Extra Pale, Carapils, Wheat Hops: Columbus, Cascade, Centennial - 7 -
/ FIRECE BEER VERY BIG MOOSE VERY BIG MOOSE A rebrew of the Fierce Beer and Flagship bar CollabFest 2017 winning beer, Very Big Moose has been scaled up and bought to life in our Ellon brewhouse. This heavy-duty version of Fierce Beer s milk stout chocolate staple, Moose Mousse, has been reincarnated as a 12% imperial stout featuring decadent helpings of Colombian cacao, Madagascan vanilla and a touch of cinnamon. In 2017 #CollabFest made a triumphant return, with every one of our UK bars and five in Europe joining forces with a local craft brewery to create a unique beer together. 34 beers, 34 bars and one epic weekend a series of genre-defying brews graced our taps up and down the country. Creativity flowed, ingenuity prospered, and friendships were formed. We re giving you the chance to relive the glory and try one of the weekend s best loved beers. Style: Imperial Stout ABV: 12% Pair with: Dark chocolate cherry mousse Hops: Chinook Malts: Pale, Carafa, Oats - 8 -
BOTTLEBOX ABSTRAKT AB:23 AB:23 The bourbon ageing lifts the barley wine to rich flavours of stewed orange, blackcurrant, cranberry, and Turkish delight, and malt notes of honey, fruitcake, raisin, sherry, and toffee. This is one complicated beer and best enjoyed in your most comfortable armchair. Our latest Abstrakt release has spent almost two years hidden away inside bourbon whiskey casks in our Ellon barrel store. Over that time it has taken on an incredible turn of flavour from the first-fill oak, magnifying and rounding out the profile it began with. And that was quite the payload Pale, Munich, Cara, Crystal and Brown malt giving a rich, caramellike backbone for the elements from the wood to interact with. AB:23 is a monument to the effects of time and the interplay between an American malt bill and the pride of that country s distillers. Style: Barley Wine ABV: 11.5% Pair With: Vanilla Panna Cotta Hops: Magnum, Simcoe, Mosaic, Ahtanum Malts: Extra Pale, Munich, Cara, Crystal, Brown IBU: 85-9 -
NANNY STATE NANNY STATE Our low-alcohol beer is brewed differently; instead of taking another existing beer and removing the alcohol, we set out to make Nanny State from the ground up. It s brewed with all the spec malt and hops of a standard beer, just without the fermentable sugars. Nanny State exists to prove that low in alcohol need not equate to low in flavour. It is a true saviour, brewed with eight different malts, six different hops to 50 IBU and yet at 0.5% ABV. Brewing a full-flavoured non-alcoholic craft beer is no easy task. But as it beats the system by tasting like beer should, then we are prepared to go the extra mile in creating our modern-day liquid rebellion. Style: 0.5% Hoppy Ale ABV: 0.5% Pair with: Vegetable Tagine Hops: Simcoe, Amarillo, Citra Malts: Munich, Crystal, Cara, Amber, Dark Crystal, Chocolate, Wheat, Rye IBU: 50-10 -
BOTTLEBOX CLOCKWORK TANGERINE CLOCKWORK ORANGE New for 2018, our citrusinfused session IPA dials down the ABV but revs up the intensity with a blast of bright, pithy tangerine. Firm piney bitterness and caramel malt provide a recognisable IPA profile, and spring the citrus hop notes from your glass - tangerine, grapefruit and hints of lime. Our Seasonal beers convey the character of the time of year during which they are available; unquestionably suitable for drinking all year round, but truly immersive when experienced within their intended time on earth. This year Clockwork Tangerine makes the leap from Prototype to full release. Style: Citrus Session IPA ABV: 4.5% Pair with: Pad Thai Hops: Ahtanum, Amarillo, Cascade, Citra, Chinook, Nelson Sauvin, Mosaic, Simcoe Malts: Cara, Crystal, Pale - 11 -
DEAD PONY CLUB DEAD PONY CLUB Light, aromatic and zesty, Dead Pony Club revels in big citrusy aromas of lime zest and lemongrass against a light caramel backbone. At the first sip, there s light toffee malt before grapefruit and pine come crashing in this pale ale packs a full throttle hop punch, making it a low amplitude, high voltage hop hit. Inspired by the wave of classic American Pale Ales arriving in the UK. As a showcase for the amazing qualities US hops can bring to beers of mid-range ABV levels, as such we took pointers from a number of different (but similar) styles to merge into a Session Pale Ale. Once released, Dead Pony Club very quickly became one of the most popular beers on the BrewDog roster and it still remains our second best seller behind Punk IPA. Style: Session Pale Ale ABV: 3.8% Pair with: Prawn tempura Colour: Golden Hops: Simcoe, Citra, Mosaic Malts: Pale, Cara, Crystal IBU: 40-12 -
BOTTLEBOX CHOCO LIBRE CHOCO LIBRE The beer has huge aromas of milk chocolate, vanilla, fruity expresso and cinnamon rolls, with an undercurrent of dark malt roastiness. Rich, bold and full-bodied the beer descends into a mocha, chili-laced aftertaste that is truly welcoming. THE WHY/ THE HOW Buckle up for this one. Our new arrival stepping into the ring is Choco Libre; a Mexican Hot Chocolate Imperial Stout. A showcase of the warming flavours of spiced hot chocolate from Central America, this is a rich, full-bodied winter comfort blanket brewed with seven different malts and five different added ingredients. One of the most complex stouts we have ever brewed (which is saying something) Choco Libre is colossal and comes ready to roll. Our tip? Don t fight make peace with it instead. Style: Imperial Stout ABV: 8.2% Pair with: Mole Beef Enchiladas Malt: Pils, Munich, Crystal, Brown, Carafa, Chocolate Wheat, Flaked Oats Hops: Bramling X IBU: 25 Additions: Cocoa Nibs, Cinnamon, Chili, Coffee, Vanilla - 13 -
ZEITGEIST Zeitgeist is our take on one of the world s formative styles the dark lagers of Bohemia. Featuring the classic Czech malt baseline it is then hit with the standard BrewDog-grade hop schedule to balance out the backbone with a big lift of American glory. Dark lagers are fading from the brewsheets of the world and this is a huge shame the Czech pioneers and their German cousins the Schwarzbiers are nuanced, subtle but deliver huge amounts of flavour. Zeitgeist proudly keeps those traditions alive. ZEITGEIST With dark lagers you should definitely get a roasty, almost umami aroma, and Zeitgeist delivers that alongside a touch of citrus fruit on the nose. Tastewise it is crisp and easy to drink, with the hop-led grapefruit and pine arriving first before the darker flavours from the malt arrive on the palate and lead into the clean finish. - 14 - Style: Black Lager ABV: 4.9% Pair with: Pork dumplings with soy sauce Malts: Lager, Caramalt, Munich, Chocolate Hops: Cascade
BOTTLEBOX INDIE PALE ALE We designed Indie to be stripped back and sessionable as our main aim was to create a beer for the 98% of people who aren t into craft a gateway for them to enter into our world. (We also wanted a go-to pale we could drink at any time). The first batch didn t really hit the mark so we regrouped and have changed the water profile, malt bill, fermentation profile and added a healthy dose of Mosaic to the whirlpool. The result is what we were after originally a rock solid, drinkable pale ale. INDIE PALE ALE The new recipe delivers light notes of pear and banana with a hint of grassy hop, set against a caramel and biscuit backbone. 100% crushable this beer is suitable for any drinking occasion and ready to go when you (or anyone else) needs it. Style: Pale Ale ABV: 4.2% Pair With: Fish and Chips Hops: Columbus, Cascade, Simcoe, Mosaic Malts: Extra Pale, Munich, Cara, Wheat - 15 -
