broaden your palate. wine club newsletter spring 2018 reds
cheers to spring! For over 30 years, I ve been lucky enough to live my passion of winemaking. One of the coolest spans of my career has been working alongside my daughter Jamie in her role as Assistant Winemaker for the last few years. She s incredibly talented, and I think you ll agree that the wines we crafted together and chose for you in this shipment are truly extraordinary. Now is a time Jamie has been preparing for all her life her schooling, experience and above all else, her drive and passion, have led us to this very special moment. This season marks my retirement as Winemaker, and handing the reigns to the next generation. It is my great honor to announce my daughter, Jamie Benziger, as Winemaker for Imagery. Please enjoy the wines that Jamie and I have selected for you this spring. You can learn about each in this Newsletter, and also on our new webpage devoted to your Wine Club. Please visit: www.imagerywinery.com/wine-clubs. Here you can find the latest winery event information, re-order information and any other important messages for our Club Members. Vintage Notes 2015: This was the fourth year of the severe drought in California. The dry weather resulted in an earlier harvest, by almost three weeks. Yields were impacted by the weather, which stressed bud break resulting in fewer clusters on each vine. While yields were lower than vintages 13 and 14, the caliber of the fruit was just as remarkable. 2016: We had become accustomed to working with limited amounts of water due to the drought, but this year we worried about abundance - it was a wet winter. Despite early season warmth and rain challenges, once we hit ripening season we had great weather for the hanging fruit to reach full maturity and to achieve ideal flavors and balance.
