Around THE Club Don t forget, we are on Facebook check us out at www.facebook.com/monarchgolfclub 5325 St. Andrews Arc Leesburg, FL 34748 352-314-9000 www.monarchgolfclub.com Ann Carter - Editor July, 2016 Golf Pro Craig Misch Welcome to summer Summer has arrived yes I know how hot it is outside, just remember I ts better than being cold! I want to thank Grant Tribble from Raymond James for sponsoring my group lessons this month, I hope everyone who came out learned a little something about chipping/pitching/and putting. It was really fun to be able to teach y all for free thanks to Grant's sponsorship. It's wonderful to have such a great community of people that continue to do special things here. We have done a few things to the course so I wanted to let y all know about that we did DryJect on 8 greens which will help extend the life of out greens. We previously did 7 greens last February so now we only have 3 greens plus the putting green left for the last round of treatments. 1 We have also sprayed 2 applications on the greens for "goose grass". Hopefully these treatments, along with the aerification we did on June 27 th, will finish off our "transition" period and the greens should be back to looking like monarch greens

should look. I anticipate the greens will be fully transitioned by the second week of July. There have been some cart tire tracks that look like burn marks on certain fairways and I wanted to explain to you how that happens As you all know, it hardly ever rains here, and it s been very hot. The combination of these two things makes the golf course extremely dry, and no matter how much we run the sprinklers we can't put out enough. When golf carts or maintenance vehicles go over a really dry spot, it breaks the blades of grass leaving behind "tracks". The root system is not affected, only the part of the grass that you can see above ground is It happened last June as well, and it will get better in the coming weeks, we just need some rain. Superintendent-Terry Stephenson DryJect is a revolutionary service which, when added to the maintenance program, can reduce the need for core aerification and greatly amplify the benefits of sand amendments by distributing them into the ground more completely. Congratulations to our new hole-in one member: DryJect s high-pressure, water-based injection system blasts aeration holes through the root zone to fracture the soil, while it s patented vacuum technology simultaneously fills holes with amendment. It will relieve compaction, increase water filtration, reach the root zone with oxygen and amend the soil all at the same time, leaving the surface smooth and playable. The DryJect application on our six problem greens is working. The process will help break up the surface to promote drainage. Roy Bowen - #11 6/10/16 2

2016 HOLE IN ONE s Men: Bill Ortbals - #11 1/9/16 Herb Van Benthuysen - #11 4/6/16 John Shoaf - #11 4/14/16 Dennis Carlen - #4 4/14/16 Dave Fitch - #4 5/16/16 Roy Bowen - #11 06/10/16 Ladies: Joan Crosby - #4 4/14/16 Barbara Kowalski - #11 5/3/16 NEWS FROM Nick Vanderwerker MMGA Representative Very warm weather for this time of year has made our games more of a hot time than normal, but thanks to Roy Bowen, at least one of our scorcher was made much more tolerable. Thanks for the cool beverage Roy! Because of the flexibility we have in allowing players who forgot to sign up or, for other reasons they didn t get registered, we often have to place a high handicapper with lower handicapped players. NEWS FROM Betty Gibson MWGA Representative Once again thanks to all who contributed to the renovation in the women s restroom. It looks great. Looking ahead, save the date of October 5th as we will be sponsoring a fashion show and luncheon at the Crown and Shield. This will be open to members and the public and will feature Fashion Labels by Maxine Yorkley. This is not a fund raiser, but just a fun social event. There will be door prizes and a 15% coupon on purchases for attendees. Game winners for the month of June are: Ringer : Linda Carey, Christa Bowen and Judy Ambrosio Even Holes: Carolyn Skorich, Christa Bowen and Sandy Cookson S&T: Carolyn Skorich, Dot Vieira tied with Sherry Grimm, and Linda Bettisworth tied with Barbara Colmer and Marie Marvil. Blind Nine: Betty Hudi tied with Diane Christie, Judy Taylor and Brenda Watson This month s games will be: 7/7 Team Odd and Even 7//14 FONE 7/21 Low net 7/28 Par 4 s Looking ahead there will be a scramble and luncheon on 8/4. Hope to see you all out there. NEWS FROM Diane Christie, Entertainment Chair There were 49 people who attended Playing Card Bingo on June 29th. The King and Queen for the month of June were Jim Tucker and Carolyn Walton. The next Playing Card Bingo will be Taco's and will be held on July 20th. Hope to see you there!!
