Lydia Couch won 2 nd Low Gross in the Championship Flight, Rhonda Pruitt won Low Net in the 1 st Flight, and Susan Millsap won Low Gross in the 5 th Flight. We look forward to Lakeridge Country Club hosting the Club Mix Play Day Thursday, August 30. Remember, the only cost is the golf cart, no charge for playing the course. Let Rhonda Pruitt know if you would like to participate. (pruitt.rhonda@gmail.com) These are the remaining dates for South Plains Play Days: September 11, Reese; October 2, Rawls. The Hillcrest Ladies Club Championship will be Saturday and Sunday, September 15 16. Please mark your calendars and sign up to play! Hillcrest Play Day will continue to start at 8:30 AM. This will go through September. Our next business meeting will be Tuesday, September 18 at 8 AM followed by Play Day at 8:30. Faithfully; Headley s Hints: by Pro Adam Headley Each month I will provide some helpful tips on how to approach each hole for maximum scoring. Happy Golf! HOLE #2 Par: Yards: How to Play Hole #2 This is one of the most overlooked holes on the golf course. The tee shot is essential to getting out of this hole with a par or better. Miss left it s a tough up and down out of a bunker with a green running away from you. Miss right and your stance is likely to be uneven on a tough chip. Pick the correct yardage and aim for the middle of the green. From the middle of the green if you are pin high you won t have more than a18 foot putt for birdie! Good Golfing! From the Grounds up! by: Darren Hazel Course Superintendent Dear Members, I believe the course is beginning to show the visible results of all the hard work. We know our to-do list certainly is much bigger then our tasks completed list. But, the crew is pretty excited about what we have accomplished. We will continue working all the new sod areas on the greens. Extra rolling and topdressing will finish the patching we have completed. In general, the greens are healing and smoothing out faster then expected. The turnaround and healing process seems to be about 3 weeks versus the industry expectation of 6 weeks. Specific problem greens of 9, 11 and the new putting green have their own aggressive game plan. September 4 th we will complete our fourth greens aerifications this calendar year. We will solid tine a ½ inch hole as a gentle end to the year. With the amount of sand, we have added this year and the other three aerifications, we prefer to go a gentler route to end the year. The holes should be filled and play back to normal in a week. Mid month we will assess the frost and freeze long term forecast. As many of you know, last year (before I was here) the course stopped growing at too low of a height. All turf grasses were affected. We struggled with thin rough, fairways and greens. This year we will make sure that does not happen. Before the first freezing Thank you for your patience on the water feature. We will continue fine tuning and adding to the area for months. But, we are over 90% done. Many of you have stopped to enjoy the view over the last few weeks. I invite you to stop and have a drink or a meal on the patio. It s not just the view, it s the sound as well. I am proud of the small part the gcm staff played in putting it together. * * * * * * We have aerifications scheduled for greens on Tuesday 9/4. We will not be pulling cores, just punching greens with light top dressing. This will have a minimal effect on play of the course and will repair quickly. Beginning Tuesday 9/25, the Tee boxes and Greens Surrounds will be seeded with Rye to get prepared for the upcoming fall months. Darren and his team have been doing an amazing job with your golf course! As always, thank you for choosing Hillcrest Golf and Country Club, Tom McClure. Bag Storage We have available great lockers for both Men and Ladies in the HCC Locker Rooms. A real $10 per month convenience. A bargain at $ 13 per month temps we Only will raise the fairway and rough height. The bent grass greens are more of an October and November decision. Inquire @ the Pro Shop

The Splash Report Pool News I understand the pool has definitely been a challenge this summer. We will be correcting this for next summer so as not to repeat the problems we have had. The pool is not ready for use currently, except for the kiddie pool. However, we have hired Omni Renovations and Pool Care to correct the water color issues. We fully expect the pool to be ready for this upcoming Labor Day Weekend. The issues causing the problems are with the filtration system. We will need to close the pool after the Labor Day Monday and get these issues addressed as to prevent problems in the future. We are sorry for any inconvenience this has cause, We understand and can appreciate the frustration many members have felt this season. Thank you for your patience Tom.
