2016 THE SCOOP Welcoming the Holidays During last month s newsletter, I highlighted many local promotions that were taking place in the dining locations. One new local promotion that I spoke about was featuring restaurants from the Waukesha Downtown District in the Main Dining Room during lunch. These restaurants have a relationship with the University by offering discounts to students and by accepting Carroll Cash through the Pioneer Card program. The first restaurant featured was Pat s Ribs, which came to Campus on Monday, October 24 th. Alisha Hayes and her husband Titus are the owners of the restaurant and Alisha happens to be an Alumni of Carroll University. Titus smoked bone-in pork shoulder for the event along with beef brisket. Pulled pork and beef brisket slider sandwiches were featured with coleslaw and baked beans. Titus also prepared two house recipes for the BBQ sauces that were featured for the sandwiches. The event was very successful as many students, faculty and staff appreciated the food and the opportunity to learn more about one of the restaurants in the Waukesha Community. One of the ideas behind the event is to create exposure with the hopefulness that when students make a choice to dine in the community with family or friends that they might frequent one of the featured campus partners. Three hundred and thirty six slider sandwiches were served during the event. Continued on page 2

Dr. Block is once again leading the charge for the fundraising event to benefit the Kenyan Village. The target for the fundraising this year is for the successful completion of a community deep well project. The deep well would provide a more reliable water supply during extended drought periods. On Friday, 11 th, the Dining Services is teaming up with Student Senate and the Dining Advisory Committee to prepare and serve a meal at the Hope Center. The Hope Center is located down the street from the Campus and the Center provides much support to those in the Community that need assistance. Providing a meal at the Hope Center is something that we do each semester and we certainly are excited to have Student Senate and the Dining Advisory Committee joining us this year.

Catering Once again, we at Chartwells are honoring our commitment to a community service outreach program, by providing and donating a complete dinner to the Hope Center of Waukesha. We have been performing this event twice annually for many years now. With a huge number of sponsors taking on various calendar dates, we will once again offer a meal for those that are less fortunate and some that are homeless. This event will take place on Friday, 11, with support volunteers from the Carroll University Dining Advisory Committee & also from Student Senate Members. The thought is to give these students the exposure to experience the people from within the community that really are in need of our assistance and to provide these folks with a deliciously hot, home-cooked meal. The menu will consist of dinner rolls & butter, baked chicken breast with a sun-dried tomato pesto cream sauce, wild rice pilaf, cut green beans, bananas, cookies and milk. Our next planned dates are set for April 7 & 10 for the year 2017. We would encourage everyone to take part in this activity at least once, to experience the enormous gratification that one feels when you leave, knowing that you ve helped to provide a hot meal for someone that may not have otherwise had this opportunity.
