1980 A Walk Through our History 1850: Visionary Man. Silvestre Ochagavia brings the first French varieties to Chile. 1851: The year when the first Chilean winery, Viña Ochagavia, was founded. 1863: Phylloxera plague wiped out the majority of European vineyards. The Chilean strains are free of the pest. 1882: Bordeaux Exhibition. Chilean wines begin to gain. prestige and recognition around the world. People started to name Silvestre Ochagavía as the father of Chilean viticulture. 1910: First work in the fields of Lo Ochagavía, located in Santiago s surroundings. 1970: Prosperous future for Ochagavia vineyards due to their amazing terroir and quality of their fruits.
1982: Viña Ochagavia is chosen to be part of the group of Carolina Wine Brands. 1985: Lo Ochagavia house was destroyed by a strong earthquake that affected the entire country, and the need arises to find help with the production logistics. 1994: The French winemaker, Jean Michel Boursquiot, re-discovers the Carmenère Ochagavia brought in mid-1800. For 60 years, the Carmenère variety was labeled as Merlot in Chile, until Boursquiot realized the difference in the vineyards. 2011: Viña Ochagavía celebrates 160 years. New look; classic and elegant. Launch of our first icon wine Raíces Nobles. 2012: Gran Reserva (Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenere) and icon wine Raíces Nobles well recognized and valued through prestigious contests in all parts of the world.
Silvestre Ochagavía Founder Born in Santiago, Chile the year 1820. He was a law graduate, politician, deputy, senator and now a days considered the father of modern Chilean winemaking. He studied in Europe in 1848, to learn about the new trends in winemaking, and later returned with the first noble grape varieties from Bordeaux, France. In 1851, this recognized character planted the first French seeds in Chilean soil, which further turn out to be the first Cabernet, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling the country had ever grown. This was the foundation of Viña Ochagavia. Now a days Ochagavia Wines have more than 165 years of tradition, reaching over 30 countries with its 8 different lines and more than 12 different varieties.

The Chilean cowboy's tool used to ride horses and to monitor the Central Valley vineyards, from where these smooth, fruity and easy drinking wines come from. Blends
From the most impervious roots of Chile, from the most central zone of our country. The symbol of the Bicentennial of Chile. This line presents tremendously fruity and bodied wines that harvested in the Central Valley, at the feet of the Andes Range. Features: -No barrel ageing, which produces fruity and fresh wines. Easy to drink. - Full-bodied, but smooth and delicate in the palate. - Central Valley, from vineyard with great climate amplitude where the optimum conditions are given for the cultivation of the vines. 1851 honors the founding year of Viña Ochagavia. This Reserve line offers a variety of fresh white an red aged wines of the most prestigious valleys from the Valle Central zone. Quality wines that express the story of the country and the legacy of its founder. Features: - We present the best wine valleys from our country. Wines made from the best grapes, stored in oak barrels that provide the complement to create a 1851 with character and perfect aromas. - Vines come from Rapel and Colchagua, our best valleys provide the finest grapes to produce an exquisite Reserva wine.
Gran Reserva
Passion and dedication are the attributes that best describe this range. Gran Reserva represents elegant and expressive wines of intense flavors and aromas, premium level with the signature of Ochagavia quality. Features: - With vineyards from the distinguished Rapel Valley, the Gran Reserva grapes are hand-picked in Late April, undergo afterwards a double selection process to be finally aged from 9-12 months in French and American oak barrels. This ensures the finest quality of our raw materials which results in the highest quality of our Premium wines. - More complex wines, with a recommended ageing potential up to 5 years.
Icon Wine
A tribute to the history that gives origin to the rebirth of our territory. Raices Nobles gathers the finest varieties from France, that once upon a time Mr. Silvestre collected and brought to Chilean lands. A wine for those who understand history and respect origins. Features: - The varieties come from the best terroir in Chile, within Maipo Valley. Understanding the process that we must go through to make an incomparable wine, is the main reason why are grapes are carefully manual harvested to then be aged in French oak barrels for 15 months. - Premium line where we select the best quality grapes to offer the best quality wine. You will find it to be smooth, velvety and completely balanced on the palate.
Sparkling
Sparkling Our Sparkling line offers on the one hand, a sweet and fruity Demi sec and on the other a dry and lively Brut. The Pacific Ocean influence gives both Ochagavia Sparkling a unique freshness, a delicate acidity and a lovely finish. Features: - Viña Ochagavia sparkling wines are made using the Charmad method, with selected grapes from our finest vineyards. - Crispy in the mouth, with a well balanced and delicate acidity.
Late Harvest
Late Harvest Viña Ochagavía presents its limited edition made from Gewürztraminer and Sauvignon Blanc grapes from the Rapel Valley. It s golden color and smooth sweetness are the most important attributes that make this Late Harvest simply irresistible. Features: - Complex and elegant, Ochagavia s Late Harvest presents a balanced acidity and a long sweet finish. - Over-ripped intentionally, grapes are harvested in June, which is approximatively 60 days after the normal harvest for white wines.
