Durant Vineyards Villa Catalana Cellar Day 1: Wednesday, September 5, 2018 Oregon Wine Country Upon arrival at Portland International Airport (please arrive by 2 PM), we drive to our hotel in the heart of Oregon s Willamette Valley Region. We check in and have time to refresh after our flight. We begin our winetasting adventure at Villa Catalana Cellar, whose Cascade Berry Fortified Wine liquor won a gold medal at the 2015 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition and whose 2013 Syrah won bronze. They are a small winery, producing less than 500 cases a year whose tasting room was inspired by San Clemente de Tahull, a 12th century Romanesque church in Catalonia, Spain. From there it is not far to Five O Three Restaurant where we gather for a welcome winetasting dinner. D Day 2: Thursday, September 6, 2018 Oregon Wine Country For the early risers, there is an optional Hot Air Balloon Ride awaiting you with breath taking views of this beautiful countryside. Lifting off is dependent on the weather conditions, includes brunch with champagne and lasts three hours. For those wanting to keep their feet on the ground, take a walk or simply relax at our hotel. After lunch on own we depart for the Durant Vineyards where a wine tasting awaits us. A founder in the Oregon wine industry, Durant Vineyards have focused on producing outstanding Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris fruit for some of the premier wineries in Oregon for forty years. In 2003, they began to craft small lots of wine from their estate fruit under the Durant label. From the Durant Vineyards, we continue to the Penner Ash Winery where we tour the vineyards and taste some of the wines including the Penner Ash Pinot Noir and Syrah. We enjoy dinner at the winery before we return to our hotel. B, D Day 3: Friday, September 7, 2018 Oregon Wine Country Our first stop is at the Ken Wright Cellars tasting room where we Vista Hot Air Balloons sample some of the wines including their Pinot Noir. Our next stop is the Anne Amie Vineyards. When Dr. Robert Pamplin, one of Oregon s most forward-thinking philanthropists and businessmen, purchased the historic Chateau Benoit Winery in 1999, his vision was to create wines of the highest quality to reflect his passion for excellence. Dr. Pamplin charged winemaker Thomas Houseman and winegrower Jason Tosch with the task of crafting extraordinary Pinot Noir. We enjoy lunch at the vineyard before touring the winery and sampling the wines. We also stop to spend a few hours in McMinnville which offers one of the best Main Streets in all of Oregon. The street is filled with wine shops, boutiques, eateries and more. We enjoy a vertical wine tasting at Willamette Valley Vineyards McMinnville Tasting Room and have time for dinner on own before returning to our hotel. B, L Day 4: Saturday, September 8, 2018 Oregon Wine Country We have this morning for individual interests and before we depart to the Ponzi Winery where we hear the story of Dick and Nancy Ponzi. They moved their young family to the Willamette Valley in the late 1960s with a spirit of adventure and a passion for making world class Pinot Noir. After many research trips to Burgundy and an extensive search for the ideal location, they purchased 20 acres on a small farm. It was a daring risk. We sample some of the award-winning wines. Then we continue to Chapter 24 Vineyards and another wine tasting. We end our day with a farewell dinner this evening at the Joel Palmer House. B, D Day 5: Sunday, September 9, 2018 Transfer to Portland This morning we transfer by coach to the Portland Airport. Flights to depart after 12:00 noon. Portland has become a go-to destination for people who love to eat and on this tour we will find out why. Even though we will sample a number of various food and drink items on the tour, the real journey is all about understanding what makes up the food that satisfies us. While having fun, we will earn our honorary diploma of culinary knowledge as we experience first-hand how fortunate we are to "eat local" and how this locavore philosophy is driving Portland's exciting food scene. For certain we will sample from the best local artisan items that Oregon has to offer. Tonight we will be free to explore and dine on our own. B Day 6: Monday, September 10, 2018 Portland Today we drive about an hour and a half to Seaside and spend some time along the ocean. We will walk the promenade which whispers of history. Its centerpiece is the statue of Lewis & Clark More Lewis & Clark history can be found at the replica of the Corps salt boiling structure. Then we will stop to feed the seals at one of the oldest aquariums in the U.S. located right on the Promenade. The Seaside Aquarium features plenty of fish tanks, a touch tank, and a chance to feed the frolicking family of Harbor seals. After time to walk on the beach, we return to Portland for an early dinner before amazing experience tonight.
