Visitors are mostly students although locals frequent the Jolly Sailor. The pub holds theme parties regularly. They show important games on large flat screen TVs. A nice choice of draft beers is available. The Sailor s staff provides great service. Visitors can also find a seat in the cozy outdoor beer garden. Hours of operation: Mon-Thu 11am-midnight, Fri-Sat 11am-1am, Sun noon-midnight. It sits on a quiet street, several minutes walk from the Canterbury Cathedral. Hidden away around the back streets, the Parrot has a peaceful, countryside atmosphere to it. It offers a good choice of beer, ales and wine, as well as mixed drinks. The bar features a romantic walled garden. During refurbishing, many astonishing features were found, such as Medieval crafted timbers and some 15th century timber-work. There is often live jazz music. The Canterbury Tales Pub and restaurant is housed in a 2-storey, red brick building. It is popular among locals and often visited by theatre goers. It provides a relaxing atmosphere in the traditional British pub interior. The Canterbury Tales offers a wider selection of spirit-based drinks, including a good range of British beers and ales, and typical English pub grub menu. It is a very busy place, close to the main entrance of the Cathedral. The Old Buttermarket is a traditional British pub with a modern feel, in a house built upon Roman remains. There are plenty of outdoor tables and indoor seats. They provide an impressive choice of real ales on tap and malt whiskeys, as well as a fine selection of red and white wines. They serve high quality pub food. One of their specials is the Old Buttermarket Steak Pie, that is always a popular choice. It is one of the most established night venues in the city. It has been entertaining the Canterbury public for over 30 years. The venue comprises two rooms: upstairs and downstairs. Alberrys looks like a cave or an old cellar with stone walls. It offers the widest range of strong drinks in Kent, as well as a nice choice of cocktails and rums. All drinks are reasonably priced. Alberrys also has a dancing area in the basement. It frequently hosts live music acts; it is definitely worth visiting. Opening hours: Monday-Saturday 11 am - 2 am. Opened in 2010, it is the most vibrant venue in the city and it comprises three floors, each with its own feel and style of music. It has brand new audio and lighting equipment. Spread on the upper level, the Bizz is the largest and it provides R'n'B and Hip Hop music. The Works is hot on student nights; it usually provides dance music and lots of space. Baa Bars on the lower floor is a Bar and sports venue, as it has been for more than 10 years. It stays open late at night. There is always fun to be had and a bright atmosphere.
