CHRISTMAS WINE SUGGESTIONS CHAMPAGNE Gusbourne Blanc de Blanc, Appledore, Kent 55 Winemaker Charlie Holland certainly understands how to get the best from our fair soils, particularly as 2010 presented difficult harvest conditions, meaning a short but high quality crop. The skill is in developing the nuanced flavours of tarte tatin, almond and even buttered toast, courtesy of a winning combination of extended lees ageing, skilled winemaking and exemplary raw materials. WHITE Nautilus Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand, 2014 34 Designed to complement food rather than overpower it, Nautilus Sauvignon Blanc frequently stands out in tastings of aged or back vintage Marlborough Sauvignons. The wine is dry and medium-weight building through the palate with great fruit complexity and concentration, culminating in a delicious, lingering finish. Chassagne Montrachet, Alain Chavy, Burgundy, France 2012 75 Atypical elegance from a few Chardonnay vines in the heart of Chassagne Montrachet owned by English Sparkling Wine producers, Cottonworth in Hampshire. Brilliantly made by the infamous Agnes Paquet in Beaune, the wine displays great intensity and freshness, balanced with judicious use of oak. RED Tamboerskloof Syrah, Kleinood, South Africa, 2012 42 Bought by Jacob de Villiers in 1688, Kleinood has made footprints in the history of the South African wine industry. Situated just outside of Stellenbosch, the area is renowned for warm days and cool nights making it ideal for grape production. The Syrah is grippy and compelling making it a very attractive and muscular wine. Le Baron de Brane, Margaux, Bordeaux, France 2011 70 2nd Wine of Brane Cantenac 58% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon. Bright and intensely floral, with a lovely violet aroma and long, rich plum sauce, blackberry and currant notes. There s lush toast, but it s nicely integrated. As well as these wine suggestions, we pride ourselves on offering a wide selection of wines to suit different palates and occasions. Please ask for our full wine list, selected from both independent vineyards as well as some of those classic favourites.
