3 Summary We have investigated the feasibility of ordering Pizza Hut, Papa John s, and Domino s for University of North Texas (UNT) students. Students surveyed on campus have determined that the most important criteria they consider when buying pizza is cost. The cheapest pizza is made by Pizza Hut. Other criteria involved in students decisions were similar for the three options. We recommend that UNT students order from Pizza Hut while they are on campus.
4 Introduction We believed it would be hard to find a University of North Texas (UNT) student who does not eat pizza at least occasionally. With this in mind, we decided to conduct a survey to find out which pizza restaurant would be best for UNT students. We chose three of the most common pizza restaurants near UNT. Option 1: Option 2: Option 3: Pizza Hut Papa John s Pizza Domino s Pizza We based our study on three criteria: The delivery time of the pizza. The cost of the pizza. The temperature of the pizza. We chose these criteria because we thought they reflected the concerns of the average UNT student. Length of delivery time would be a factor because most UNT students are constantly busy with class, extracurricular activities, friends, and family. UNT students need their food delivered as fast as possible because of their busy schedules. We determined cost would be a factor because most UNT students live on a budget and need to stay within this budget. We thought that a pizza with a lower price would be more appealing to a UNT student. We decided temperature was our third factor because most UNT students, like most people in general, want a pizza to be as hot and fresh as it can be on delivery. Methods for Evaluation the Options We determined which criteria will be the most important, moderately important, and the least important based on a point system. To support our recommendation, we evaluated the feasibility of each option using three criteria: The cost of the pizza. The temperature of the pizza. The delivery time of the pizza. Students used the following to system to rank our evaluation criteria: most important 3pts moderately important 2pts least important 1pt We compared the cost of each large pizza. We measured the delivery time from the moment the pizza was ordered to the moment the pizza arrived at the door. We measured the temperature by inserting a food thermometer into the center of the pizza. We surveyed random students on campus. We asked the students, When you choose a restaurant to order delivery pizza, which factor is the most important? The survey looked like this:
5 When you choose a restaurant to order pizza, which factor is the most important? cost (price of a large pizza) timeliness (latency from placement of the order to the delivery of the pizza) temperature Rank the factors (cost, timeliness, size) in order of level of importance. 1. (most important) 2. (moderately important) 3. (least important) In order to evaluate the restaurants, we conducted a trial. We ordered a large pizza from each restaurant had it delivered to a location on campus that was an equal distance from each restaurant. Results of the Evaluation We surveyed 22 students. Our results from the survey ranked the importance of the three criteria from most to least important: Most important The cost of the pizza. Moderately important The temperature of the pizza. Least important The delivery time of the pizza. The cost of the pizza scored the highest in the survey with 58 points. The temperature of the pizza scored the second highest with 39 points. The delivery time for the pizza scored the lowest with 35 points. The pizza restaurants that scored the highest in each evaluation trial are: The cost of the pizza Pizza Hut The temperature of the pizza Domino s The delivery time of the pizza Domino s Pizza Hut was two dollars cheaper than the others. All pizza restaurants had similar pizza temperatures but Domino s scored the highest. Domino s had the fastest delivery time while Papa John s was the slowest. Graph 1 shows that UNT students consider cost almost twice as important as the other two criteria.

7 Conclusion Our survey indicated cost is the most important factor for UNT students when choosing a pizza for delivery. We had several conclusions from evaluating our criteria. Pizza Hut had the lowest cost by a little more than two dollars. Pizza Hut also had the second highest temperature and second fastest delivery time. Our data suggested that longer delivery times caused lower pizza temperature. Overall, all three pizzas restaurants were similar. with only Pizza Hut being significantly cheaper than the other two and Papa John's having a significantly longer delivery time. The rest of the data points were similar outside of those two outliers. We would rank the three options in this order: Option 1: Option 2: Option 3: Pizza Hut Papa John s Pizza Domino s Pizza Recommendation We recommend that UNT students order pizza from Pizza Hut. Pizza Hut offers the cheapest pizza with relatively no impact on delivery time or temperature. Feasibility
