We kick things off with a blast of hops perfect for spring our new classic West Coast IPA Native Son. Also in this case is the redesigned version of our crushable new Headliner, Indie Pale Ale v2.0. And proving that you can still remain on the dark side in spring; our maple stout Kamikaze Knitting Club. Depending on whether you are currently looking down at eight, twelve or eighteen beers (and remember you can switch up your BottleBox subscription at any time on our website) you ll also have such amazing BrewDog beer as our first seasonal of 2018 Zeitgeist, the fury of hops that is our 20% ABV Hop Shot and an intense imperial stout the legendary Tokyo*. However and wherever you enjoy these beers we hope that your love them as much as we loved brewing them! James and Martin Our head of production Jason Pond joined us from Firestone Walker over a year ago, when our Captain James set him the task of creating his ideal go-to beer. So as a proud son of Colorado he loaded up the hop cannon and set to work on Native Son a quintessential West Coast IPA. As American as the fourth of July this beer was an instant hit at BrewDog HQ (as if it was ever in doubt) and so for 2018 we have added it to our full-time Amplified line-up. Hooray for hops. NATIVE SON Jason s take on the classic WCIPA has a simple yet clean malt base, enough bitterness to appease the taste buds without wrecking them and a hop profile that is loaded with grapefruit, citrus zest and slightly floral aromas. Style: IPA ABV: 8.5% Pair with: Loaded Cheeseburger (onion rings a must) Malts: Pale, Crystal Hops: Columbus, Chinook, Centennial, Simcoe, Citra, Mosaic : - 3 -
INDIE PALE ALE KAMIKAZE KNITTING CLUB We designed Indie to be stripped back and sessionable as our main aim was to create a beer for the 98% of people who aren t into craft a gateway for them to enter into our world. (We also wanted a go-to pale we could drink at any time). The first batch didn t really hit the mark so we regrouped and have changed the water profile, malt bill, fermentation profile and added a healthy dose of Mosaic to the whirlpool. The result is what we were after originally a rock solid, drinkable pale ale. INDIE PALE ALE The new recipe delivers light notes of pear and banana with a hint of grassy hop, set against a caramel and biscuit backbone. 100% crushable this beer is suitable for any drinking occasion and ready to go when you (or anyone else) needs it. Style: Pale Ale ABV: 4.2% Pair with: Fish and Chips Hops: Columbus, Cascade, Simcoe, Mosaic Malts: Extra Pale, Munich, Cara, Wheat : -4- We had a blast brewing our limited-edition Wild Card releases last year, and the first of 2018 s quartet of small-batch brews is perfect for those struggling to find the first light of spring. We decided to brew a stout but one including that most quintessential of Canadian exports maple syrup. But in order to prevent it descending into gloopy sweetness (as fun as that is) we added the key hop Sorachi Ace. This Japanese wiz acts to balance the saccharine elements with truly complementary herbal bitterness. KAMIKAZE KNITTING CLUB At its most obvious the beer is a warming, slightly smoky stout as it highlights those dark malts that release flavours of chocolate and coffee. But the Sorachi gives its classic herbal, coconutty citrus element that allows the woodsy notes of the maple to appear. Style: Stout ABV: 7.5% Pair with: Sponge Pudding Malts: Pale, Chocolate, Cara, Carafa Extras: Maple Syrup : -5-
PUNK IPA The beer that started a revolution. Our flagship India Pale Ale was the direct result of James and Martin brewing beer they wanted to drink, based on the influences of the burgeoning American craft beer scene. The resultant trans-atlantic IPA is fresh, full-forward and pays due homage to the India Pale Ales of yesteryear. With explosions of fruity hops at every stage, it is truly a beer to rally behind something we have done since the day BrewDog was formed, ten years ago in 2007. PUNK IPA With tropical fruits and light caramel on the nose, the palate soon becomes assertive and resinous with the New Zealand hops balanced by the biscuit malt. The finish is aggressive, dry and resinous, with the hops emerging over warming alcohol. This postmodern twist of huge levels of dry-hopping give that characteristic explosion of tropical fruit flavour from start to finish. Style: IPA ABV: 5.6% Pair with: Chicken tikka Colour: Light Gold Malts: Extra Pale, Cara Hops: Simcoe, Chinook, Ahtanum, Cascade, Nelson Sauvin, Amarillo : -6- ZEITGEIST Zeitgeist is our take on one of the world s formative styles the dark lagers of Bohemia. Featuring the classic Czech malt baseline it is then hit with the standard BrewDog-grade hop schedule to balance out the backbone with a big lift of American glory. Dark lagers are fading from the brewsheets of the world and this is a huge shame the Czech pioneers and their German cousins the Schwarzbiers are nuanced, subtle but deliver huge amounts of flavour. Zeitgeist proudly keeps those traditions alive. ZEITGEIST With dark lagers you should definitely get a roasty, almost umami aroma, and Zeitgeist delivers that alongside a touch of citrus fruit on the nose. Tastewise it is crisp and easy to drink, with the hop-led grapefruit and pine arriving first before the darker flavours from the malt arrive on the palate and lead into the clean finish. Style: Black Lager ABV: 4.9% Pair with: Pork dumplings with soy sauce Malts: Lager, Caramalt, Munich, Chocolate Hops: Cascade : -7-
JET BLACK HEART INCLUDED IN 12/18 CAPACITY ES KINGPIN JET BLACK HEART KINGPIN We long wanted to return a dark beer to our Headlining lineup, and after trialling a limited-edition B-Side Milk Stout, the fledgling Jet Black Heart was released into the 2015 Prototype Challenge to see what would happen. What happened was it won the competition at a canter, never polling less than 40% of the overall vote. Our eight malt, two hop, four-legged friend is black as pitch and smooth as hell. The flaked oats and wheat add to the mouthfeel throughout, with the rest of the malt bill setting up a truly smooth, rewarding finish. On the aroma, a depth of roasted coffee beans and chocolate, with raisin and other dark fruits. The first thing that comes to the fore on the taste is the full-bodied richness, with the velvety mouthfeel leading to an intensity of smooth vanilla and dark berry fruit. These flavours in turn lift and amplify the chocolate character into a long, roasty aftertaste. Style: Milk Stout ABV: 4.7% Pair with: Shin of Beef Stew IBUs: 30 Hops: Magnum, Sorachi Ace Of all the beer styles in all the world, the most bastardised by far are those of the lager family. So we worked for months to redress the balance, channelling the spirit of classic German pilsners into a king amongst knaves a true twenty-first century lager. Kingpin was designed by our brewteam to balance full-bodied malt character with classic continental hops; the all-malt bill setting the bar for everything that follows. Kingpin is a showcase designed to return a much-maligned beer style back to the top, where it rightfully belongs. Robust, full-bodied malt character arrives on the palate laying the scene for the arrival of the hops, which follow along soon afterwards. The Magnum and Perle double act bring a one-two of floral notes and spicy citrus bitterness, with the Magnum in particular resulting in a classically assertive Pilsner-style bitterness to the finish. Style: Lager ABV: 4.7% Pair with: Tuna Maki Colour: Golden Malts: Pilsner, Pale, Cara, Munich Hops: Magnum, Perle : - 8 - : - 9 -
ELVIS JUICE INCLUDED IN 12/18 CAPACITY ES 5AM SAINT INCLUDED IN 18 CAPACITY ES ELVIS JUICE 5AM SAINT We first released our small-batch American citrus IPA in mid-2015 as a Prototype loaded with juice it gave the beer a slightly sour edge but from the start we wanted Elvis Juice to be a go-to takeout beer, perfect for picnics, road-trips and other similar occasions. So we worked on the recipe and dialled in the fruitiness on an epic scale, switching to zesty peel inside of the more tart and acidic juice. And the results are very much what we intended Elvis Juice revitalised and fully Amplified. Bursting with layer upon layer of grapefruit and tangerine from the judicious amount of zested peel playing off the five different US hops, Elvis is truly citrus on top of citrus. With a baseline of caramel malt, the waves of crashing orange, grapefruit and pine can take centre stage. Style: IPA ABV: 6.5% Pair with: Grapefruit Soufflé Hops: Amarillo, Citra, Magnum, Mosaic, Simcoe Malts: Cara, Extra Pale Extras: Grapefruit Peel A robust red ale, 5AM is hopped to the brink and back with some of our favourite North American hops and featuring a rich, roasty base of speciality malts for flavour and colour. The second beer we ever dry-hopped (after we had dialled in Punk IPA), this technique transformed one of our existing amber ales The Physics making a roasty, fruit beer so much more. Switching to US hops over English ones, combined with this massive dry-hopping, created this hugely popular beer that has remained in our Headliner range ever since. The nose is a riot of citrus and berry aromas, from orange to lychee to redcurrant. On the palate is a bold resinous bitterness which builds against the burnt sugar sweetness. The finish is clean and the fruity notes linger on. A bitter twist on a classic style, this red ale takes the best of sweet malt and bitter hops and fuses them in perfect harmony. Style: American Red Ale ABV: 5.0% Pair with: Ribs Malts: Extra Pale, Munich, Cara, Crystal, Dark Crystal Hops: Cascade, Simcoe, Amarillo, Centennial, Ahtanum, Nelson Sauvin : - 10 - : - 11 -
QUADRUPLE INDIA PALE ALE 20% HOP SHOT TOKYO* HOP SHOT TOKYO* Hops weren t meant to be subtle. Our latest experimentation with ice-distillation, Hop Shot is a fusillade of five of the finest high-alpha sluggers America has given to the world subjected to liquid alchemy. Hop Shot is a 20% ABV West Coast IPA exposed to Antarctic conditions (only not at the South Pole). This causes the beer to freeze; removing the ice formed concentrates and intensifies what remains until you have the perfect hop grenade. Hop Shot takes the poster-child style of craft beer and pulling it apart before putting it back together like never before. The aroma retains a huge amount of hop character - grapefruit peel, sticky stewed orange and yuzu, combined with heady pine sap and resin. The mouthfeel is full and warming, and layers sweet toffee with an aggressive bitterness. Style: Quadruple IPA ABV: 20.0% Pair with: Extra Mature Cheddar IBU: 200+ Malts: Amarillo, Centennial, Citra, Columbus, Simcoe Our ground-breaking imperial stout has an intensity few beers can hope to match. Brewed with an intricate mix of speciality malts, jasmine and cranberries, it is then dry-hopped before being aged on toasted oak chips. Drawing inspiration from the mind-melting gaming scene of the Japanese capital, it is a beer we first brewed in 2008, to a reaction of pretty much mass hysteria. Beers as strong launch every week these days, without anybody blinking. Back then, you could have been forgiven for thinking that we had single-handedly caused the downfall of Western civilisation! On the nose, the combination of the malt bill, added ingredients and dry hopping manifests itself with aromas of dark stone fruit, vanilla and chocolate. This runs through to the palate where they are joined by a vinous tartness from the cranberries and a hugely complementary finish of warming alcohol. A beer with layer upon layer upon layer of complexity, it truly is one to savour. Style: Imperial Stout ABV: 16.5% Pair with: White chocolate ganache Malts: Extra Pale, Dark Crystal, Chocolate, Roasted Barley Extras: Jasmine, Cranberries, Oak Chips : - 12 - : - 13 -
