Hazy Jane Brewdog alice porter HAZY JANE ALICE PORTER Hazy Jane is a beer we worked on for months, with small-batch trials and taste panel meetings coming together in a single release. New England IPAs are unquestionably the style of the moment so in putting this beer together, we put in the hours. With the same ABV as Jack Hammer but less than a third the bitterness, this beer is about the interplay of the high-level aromas and flavours from some of our favourite US hops. Served unfiltered and canned fresh, it is our take on the hottest style of the moment. New England IPA has to tick several boxes. It requires a low background bitterness and intense juicy fruit character. Pineapple, stonefruit, mango, light resin and hints of lime peel Hazy Jane is full-bodied and smooth, enhancing those soft ripe fruit flavours. Style: New England IPA ABV: 7.2% Pair with: Pinapple Upside-Down Cake IBU: 30 Malts: Pale, Oats, Wheat Hops: Amarillo, Chinook, Citra, Mosaic, Simcoe We love turning the clock back to beers that predate our move to Ellon, and Alice Porter is one of our most popular of those. It sold out in double quick time when launched at our flagship bar in Aberdeen (the only BrewDog Bar in existence at the time). Rejuvenated as part of our #ReBrewDog celebrations, Alice is enigmatic dark alchemy at its finest a roasty porter brewed with Sorachi Ace, as was the original that was first brewed on a freezing Fraserburgh afternoon back in 2010. Alice takes a sudden twist in an unexpected direction; a blend of hops that add a light, balancing citrusy twist and a subtle spiciness. This robust roasty porter has smooth and full-bodied mouthfeel while the addition of Sorachi Ace brings in a hint of vanilla alongside notes of citrus, spice and dark fruits. Country: Scotland Style: Porter ABV: 6.2% Pair with: Roasted garlic Camembert Hops: First Gold, Magnum, Sorachi Ace Malts: Brown, Chocolate Wheat, Crystal, Dark Crystal, Munich, Oats, Pale, Wheat - 4 - - 5 -
PUNK IPA SONIC BOOM V2 PUNK IPA SONIC BOOM V2 The beer that started a revolution. Our flagship India Pale Ale was the direct result of James and Martin brewing beer they wanted to drink, based on the influences of the burgeoning American craft beer scene. The resultant trans- Atlantic IPA is fresh, full-forward and pays due homage to the India Pale Ales of yesteryear. With explosions of fruity hops at every stage, it is truly a beer to rally behind something we have done since the day BrewDog was formed, eleven years ago in 2007. With tropical fruits and light caramel on the nose, the palate soon becomes assertive and resinous with the New Zealand hops balanced by the biscuit malt. The finish is aggressive, dry and resinous, with the hops emerging over warming alcohol. This post-modern twist of huge levels of dry-hopping give that characteristic explosion of tropical fruit flavour from start to finish. Style: IPA ABV: 5.6% Pair with: Chicken tikka Colour: Light Gold Malts: Extra Pale, Cara Hops: Simcoe, Chinook, Ahtanum, Cascade, Nelson Sauvin, Amarillo Replacing our single-hop series, we are introducing a constantly-updated series of IPAs that allow our rock and roll brew team to investigate the glory of hops. As with IPA is Dead the base beer remains the same but unlike IPA is Dead all bets are off from then on. Different hops, sure, but Sonic Boom can also include new hopping techniques, experimental varieties, or whatever they want to do to evolve the beer each time round. The latest iteration harnesses the power of HBC 438, an experimental hop from the fields of the Yakima valley in Washington State. To let it shine our brewers added HBC 438 to the dry-hop stage and it results in a beer unlike any we have brewed before, majoring in flavours of bergamot, coconut, lime leaf; sticky pine sap lead into biting lemongrass on the finish. Country: Scotland Style: IPA ABV: 6.5% Pair with: Pizza with chili flakes Malts: Pale, Carapils, Wheat Hops: Cascade, Centennial, Chinook, HBC 438, Simcoe - 6 - - 7 -
JACK HAMMER / FIRECE BEER VERY BIG MOOSE Jack Hammer finished runner up in the 2012 Prototype contest (although it came home behind another beer in this Bottle Box Cocoa Psycho, so all turned out well). Our big-hitting India Pale Ale revels in bitterness and hopload, piling both up to near theoretical levels. The first of those in particular, as the International Bitterness Scale only goes up to 100. Jack Hammer tops out well above that as its many firm fans can attest JACK HAMMER We threw the kitchen sink at Jack Hammer from the first nose the aroma is full-on citrus and pine. With grapefruit, pineapple and lime resonating from start to finish, our ruthless India Pale Ale becomes progressively more bitter and resinous as you go. The aftertaste is a simple eulogy to the glory of the hop, and a celebration of the art of bitterness. -8- Style: Imperial IPA ABV: 7.2% IBU: 100+ Pair with: Carrot Cake (no really) Hops: Amarillo, Centennial, Citra, Columbus, Simcoe Malts: Extra Pale Colour: Golden Amber VERY BIG MOOSE A rebrew of the Fierce Beer and Flagship bar CollabFest 2017 winning beer, Very Big Moose has been scaled up and bought to life in our Ellon brewhouse. This heavy-duty version of Fierce Beer s milk stout chocolate staple, Moose Mousse, has been reincarnated as a 12% imperial stout featuring decadent helpings of Colombian cacao, Madagascan vanilla and a touch of cinnamon. In 2017 #CollabFest made a triumphant return, with every one of our UK bars and five in Europe joining forces with a local craft brewery to create a unique beer together. 34 beers, 34 bars and one epic weekend a series of genre-defying brews graced our taps up and down the country. Creativity flowed, ingenuity prospered, and friendships were formed. We re giving you the chance to relive the glory and try one of the weekend s best loved beers. -9- Style: Imperial Stout ABV: 12% Pair with: Dark chocolate cherry mousse Hops: Chinook Malts: Pale, Carafa, Oats
Jet black heart Nitro Brewdog jet trash JET BLACK HEART NITRO PINK IPA We long wanted to return a dark beer to our Headlining line-up, and after trialling a limitededition B-Side Milk Stout, the fledgling Jet Black Heart was released into the 2015 Prototype Challenge to see what would happen. What happened was it won the competition at a canter, never polling less than 40% of the overall vote. Our eight malt, two hop, four-legged friend is black as pitch and smooth as hell. The flaked oats and wheat add to the mouthfeel throughout, this is a beer perfect for any season and any drinking occasion. On the aroma, a depth of roasted coffee beans and chocolate, with raisin and other dark fruits. The first thing that comes to the fore on the taste is the full-bodied richness, with the velvety mouthfeel leading to an intensity of smooth vanilla and dark berry fruit. These flavours in turn lift and amplify the chocolate character into a long, roasty aftertaste. Style: Milk Stout ABV: 4.7% Pair with: Shin of Beef Stew IBU: 30 Colour: (Jet) Black Hops: Magnum, Sorachi Ace Malts: Pale, Wheat, Crystal, Extra Dark Crystal, Brown, Black, Carafa, Oats Hop-forward beers from the West Coast are ones we return to time and again. The reason is simple we firmly believe every now and again you need to roll up the sleeves and raid the hop store. Our new wild card release is just such a beer and taking point is the hop that made Sierra Nevada a household name. Cascade sits front and centre as the focal point of a colossal dry-hopping programme but the malt bill gives a broader presence than in our other hop-forward IPAs. Jet Trash carries fresh grassy and zesty grapefruit aromas into a tropical flavour, but also introduces a toasty, balanced malt bill. This acts as a point of balance for the pine, resin and citrus and rounds the beer out perfectly. Country: Scotland Style: IPA ABV: 7.5% Pair with: Seared Bavette Steak Malts: Pale, Munich, Cara Red, Dextrin Hops: Centennial, Simcoe, Chinook, Citra, Mosaic - 10 - - 11 -
5AM SAINT INCLUDED IN 12/18 CAPACITY ES CLOCKWORK TANGERINE INCLUDED IN 18 CAPACITY ES 5AM SAINT CLOCKWORK ORANGE A robust red ale, 5AM is hopped to the brink and back with some of our favourite North American hops and featuring a rich, roasty base of speciality malts for flavour and colour. The second beer we ever dryhopped (after we had dialled in Punk IPA), this technique transformed one of our existing amber ales The Physics making a roasty, fruit beer so much more. Switching to US hops over English ones, combined with this massive dryhopping, created this hugely popular beer that has remained in our Headliner range ever since. The nose is a riot of citrus and berry aromas, from orange to lychee to redcurrant. On the palate is a bold resinous bitterness which builds against the burnt sugar sweetness. The finish is clean and the fruity notes linger on. A bitter twist on a classic style, this red ale takes the best of sweet malt and bitter hops and fuses them in perfect harmony. Style: American Red Ale ABV: 5.0% Pair with: Ribs IBU: 35 Malts: Extra Pale, Munich, Cara, Crystal, Dark Crystal Hops: Cascade, Simcoe, Amarillo, Centennial, Ahtanum, Nelson Sauvin We began this year s seasonal beers with our dark lager Zeitgeist, and followed it with this one; a beer crowned victor of the 2017 Prototype Challenge (as the less snappy Tangerine Session IPA ). Now renamed Clockwork Tangerine, this brew packs a citrus punch on a par with Elvis Juice, but clocking in at just 4.5%. As a session-strength IPA, it dials down the ABV and ratchets up the pithy bitterness thanks to a judicious application of tangerine. Cheers to summertime drinking! Explosive aromas of tangerine and mandarin meld seamlessly with notes of grapefruit and lime. The palate is light and dry; malt plays second fiddle to flavours of orange peel and pine. Each sip rises and falls, with intense flavour building, and the light finish leaving you ready for more. Style: Session IPA ABV: 4.5% Pair with: Lemon and Herbed Sea Bass Hops: Ahtanum, Amarillo, Cascade, Citra, Chinook, Nelson Sauvin, Mosaic, Simcoe Malts: Pale, Cara, Crystal - 12 - - 13 -
VAGABOND INCLUDED IN 18 CAPACITY ES Teeming with hopflecked attitude, the main aim of Vagabond is to dispel two commonlyheld misconceptions in the world of beer. Firstly, that 4.5% pale ales are mere run-ofthe-mill stock releases. And secondly that by necessity, gluten-free equates to taste-free. Vagabond is proof that the focal point of both of these types of beer should be flavour, rather than hiding behind the everyday nature of a style, or conforming to an ideal. VAGABOND PALE ALE A blast of Californian Pacific coastal sunshine, Vagabond melds garlands of floraldecked citrus and tropical hop flavours with a light caramel malt base, backed up with a raucously resinous bitterness. It is full flavour, full tilt only zero gluten. Style: Pale Ale ABV: 4.5% Pair with: Ceviche IBU: 55 Hops: Centennial, Amarillo Malts: Extra Pale, Cara, Crystal - 14 - - 15 -
