JUNE 3 - JUNE 10, 2016 WEEK 22 ORGANIC MARKET NEWS OUTLOOK FOR JUNE 3 - JUNE 10, 2016 PEAK ORGANIC RASPBERRIES June is proving to be the peak for Organic Raspberries! Harvests during the last week of May and the fi rst week of June were abundant on Organic Raspberries from Mexico and California, allowing for some nice spot deal opportunities. Quality is excellent and even though pricing will firm back up for the rest of June, the fruit should still remain promotable. OG BERRIES OG STONE FRUIT OG TOMATOES Organic Strawberry supply continues to be excellent with promotable pricing on 1 lb. and 2 lb. packs for early June. Flavor has been great, especially on the Driscoll s brand fruit! California and Southeast Organic Blackberry supplies are ramping up and prices are starting to align for big June promotions. Mexican Organic Blackberries are in steady supply this week but that region will wind down during June. Organic Blueberries are steady this week with slightly lighter supplies out of CA. That said, big volume is coming by mid-june from both the Pacific Northwest and the East Coast (NC - 6/10, NJ - 6/16). Get ready for promotional opportunities later this month on 12/1 pts. Organic Patterson Apricots are in steady supply. Organic Pluots are in excellent supply. Organic Yellow and White Peach supply continues to improve with larger sizing and prices sliding off slowly. Organic Donut Peaches are back in decent supply. Organic Yellow Nectarine supplies are beginning to ramp up. Expect prices to come off as the weeks roll on. Organic White Nectarines and Black Plums are in short supply gap, but we expect to see more the second week of June. Organic Red Plums should be in decent supply this week and then ramping up to excellent supply. Organic Round and Hothouse Tomatoes are in good supply out of Mexico. Florida growers are reporting very light volume out of the last planting. Organic Grape Tomatoes continue to be in good supply out of Florida. Georgia is just getting started. Mexico is reporting good supplies of Organic Tomatoes. Organic Cherry Tomatoes are fi nished out of Florida and have just begun out of GA. Organic Rainbow Cherry Tomatoes are in limited supplies from Florida and will be ending soon. Organic Roma Tomatoes are in limited supply out of Florida. Mexico reports abundant supplies. Organic Cluster Tomatoes are in good supply out of both Mexico and Canada. Quality is very good.

OG CHERRIES The fi rst Washington Organic Dark Sweet Cherries have arrived. Large fruit prevails and a good crop is expected over the next few weeks. At this time, early estimates project the supply will fi nish before the July 4th holiday. California Organic Rainier Cherries have made a short, unexpected visit and should wrap up in the beginning of June. OG PINEAPPLES Organic Pineapples have started to shown signs of tightening just a bit. Recent imports have been rejected at the pier due to actionable bugs found during inspection. This has a bit of a shortage of available organic fruit on the east coast and the rest of the country. OG HASS AVOCADOS ALERT! Organic Hass Avocado pricing are climbing rapidly on 36 and 48ct sized fruit. 60ct pricing is also up a bit, but many growers are getting smaller sized fruit keeping the price below the 36 and 48ct. Both Mexican and California fruit is very tight. OG KIWIFRUIT New Zealand Organic Green Kiwifruit supply is expected to be steady with excellent quality. Get ready for new crop Zespri Organic SunGold Kiwifruit which is set to arrive around the second week of June. OG SQUASH Organic Zucchini is in good supply out of Georgia. Quality has been very nice. Mexico shippers are more limited this week on Organic Zucchini and some are beginning to see quality issues. OG CUCUMBERS Organic Cucumbers are in good supply out of GA. Mexico growers report good supplies, but are below volume of what they ve had the previous 3-4 weeks. Organic Hothouse Cucumbers are in good supply from Holland and Mexico. Florida growers are reporting limited supplies of Organic Pickle Cucumbers. OG EGGPLANT Mexico is reporting good supplies of Organic Globe Eggplant this week. Quality has been very good. Organic Eggplant is fi nishing out of Florida. OG SALADS Olivia s Organic 5 oz Salads are transitioning from a 6/5oz pack to an 8/5oz pack in the near future. Stay tuned for more details on this case/ pack change! OG MANGOS Volume is plentiful and shippers are motivated to move Organic Tommy Atkins Mangos. Organic Ataulfos Mangos continue to be in good supply and condition as well.

OG ASPARAGUS Organic Asparagus is in steady supply out of CA. Quality has been very good. The season should last through June. Pedersen Farms in New York is reporting limited supplies of Organic Asparagus. The harvest is expected to go until mid-june and then be done. OG MELONS California Organic Cantaloupes, Honeydew, and Galia Melons are in excellent supply with promotional opportunities now available. Mexican Organic Cantaloupes have fi nished for the season and Organic Honeydew will wrap up this week. Mexico and Florida will be in good supply this week on Organic Watermelons. Keep promoting! OG CARROTS ALERT! Cal-Organic plans on discontinuing or sharply limiting their standard bunched Organic Carrot with tops pack during the hot summer months. They are offering an alternative pack of bunched Organic Carrots with clipped tops. Due to the extreme temperatures Cal-O is experiencing, this pack change will help avoid burnt tops and improve quality throughout summer. We will source Organic Carrots with tops from other vendors when available during the summer too. OG BROCCOLI & CAULIFLOWER Organic Broccoli prices are a little higher this week. Shippers are reporting adequate supplies, but others are out for a week. Organic Broccoli will be available out of Pennsylvania around 6/15. Organic Broccoli Crowns are in more limited supply. Organic Cauliflower is in tighter supply this week out of CA. Some smaller sizes (16-20ct) are available as well. Expect tighter supplies for the beginning of June. OG GRAPES Mexican Organic Green and Red Seedless Grapes are in excellent supply with promotional opportunities available. Flavor is exceptional on the Organic Red Flame Seedless. California Organic Green and Red Grape supply is improving by the day with prices starting to come off. A good crop is expected. California and Mexican Organic Black Seedless Grapes are in steady supply. Organic Cotton Candy Grapes are basically SOLD OUT for the season. Organic Sweet Celebration, and Sapphire (Witches Fingers) Grapes are set to arrive before the second week of June., but supplies are exremely limited. Call for pre-orders! OG CITRUS California Organic Navel Oranges will be drying up for the season by the middle of June. Excellent supplies of Organic Valencia Oranges are now available. A small shot of Organic Murcott Mandarins have arrived in very limited supply with high prices. California Organic Kumquats are limited and are expected to fi nish up for the season the fi rst 2 weeks of June. - Import Organic Apples are limited and priced high. The fi rst Organic Diva Apples from New Zealand are expected the middle of June. - California Organic Grapefruit supplies continue to be increasingly limited with high prices. Extra-large sizing prevails. - The next shot of Organic Sweet Corn will be available 6/20 out of California. OTHER STORIES: - Organic Green Beans are fi nished for the time being out of Florida. CA is reporting adequate supplies of Organic Green Beans but at a much higher price. - Organic Ginger is in adequate supply out of Peru. Price is up due to shipping by air rather than boat. China reports adequate supplies of Organic Ginger as well, but at a much reduced price. - Organic Formosa Papayas remain in steady supply with very nice quality, large fruit through the summer months! - Organic Young Thai Coconuts will be back in stock next week, but supplies will be limited and prices remain high. JUNE 3 - JUNE 10, 2016 WEEK 22 CONVENTIONAL MARKET NEWS OUTLOOK FOR JUNE 3 - JUNE 10, 2016 Cv CHERRY SEASON IS HERE What a difference a week makes - from little to no Cherries available for Memorial Day, right into abundant harvests coming off the trees in the Pacifi c Northwest the fi rst week of June! Get ready to promote Dark Sweet Cherries. The fi rst arrivals came in very good this week. Fruit is fi rm with green stems and the crop has plenty of large sizing available. With the increase of volume, prices started dropping signifi cantly. If Mother Nature cooperates, the next four weeks through the July 4th holiday pull, there will be plenty of Cherries at promotable prices. CV MELONS CV BERRIES CV PEPPERS Mexican and Arizona will continue to be in excellent supply on both Cantaloupes and Honeydews this week. Promote this week! Great deals are available on smaller fruit (12ct and 15ct lopes, 6ct and 8ct dews). Tuscan Cantaloupes are also in their peak season. This is a premium textured and fl avored piece of fruit. Bin Cantaloupes: We will transition from Florida to Georgia Bin Cantaloupes this week. Volume will continue to increase as we approach the 4th of July. Keep promoting Watermelons this week! Northern Florida is in full production. Georgia is expected to start the middle of June. Georgia and North Carolina will continue to harvest Blueberries. Some rain in both areas has put some suspect quality fruit in the market. New Jersey expects to start the week of June 13th. The Pacifi c Northwest is also expected to start by the third week of June. Plan promotions on Blueberries heading into the 4th of July! Steady Strawberry supplies will continue this week out of both Santa Maria and Watsonville/Salinas. Good demand has kept markets steady. That will continue this week. Keep promoting Strawberries. Raspberry and Blackberries are steady in supply and pricing this week. 15lb Red Peppers are fl ush with steady to lower pricing and good quality. Green Peppers are steady in price with good quality. We will transition to more East Coast supply. 11lb Red Peppers are steady. Mini Mix Sweet Peppers are in good supply, with an uptick in pricing.

CV CELERY There are good supplies of Celery from Oxnard, CA. Quality is good and pricing is steady. CV GREEN BEANS Green Beans are nice quality from Georgia right now and steady in price. CV BRUSSELS SPROUTS Brussels Sprouts are steady in price and nice quality. Ocean Mist Microwave Brussels Sprouts packs are still not available this week. CV ARTICHOKES California grown Artichokes are in good supply this week. Pricing will be lower and aggressive, especially on the 12 ct jumbo Artichokes. CV BROCCOLI & CAULIFLOWER California 14ct Broccoli and Broccoli Crown supplies are limited, with nice quality and steady pricing. Cauliflower supplies are limited with higher pricing this week. Quality has been nice. CV TOMATOES Beef and Cluster Tomatoes are in good supply. Roma, Grape, and Cherry Tomatoes are steady. Campari Tomato pricing will be lower this week with promotable volume. CV EASTERN PEACHES There is good volume of Peaches shipping from both Georgia and South Carolina. The fruit from both is still peaking on the 2 ½ and smaller sizes, but everyday growers are seeing more of the larger sizes. The color has been very high and there is a handful of Eastern White Peaches to mix in as well. CV CUCUMBERS Cello-wrapped Cucumbers are plentiful/promotable/aggressive in price. 12/6ct Mini Seedless Cucumbers are in good supply and aggressive in price. We will continue with nice Mexican Super Select Cucumbers this week. There is Georgia product on the market, but not any price advantage vs. Mexican product. Quality is outstanding. We will have a nice deal on Georgia Select Cucumbers. CV GRAPES Mexico is crossing an abundance of Seedless Grapes, both Red and White, and Southern California is in full swing as well. Get ready to promote! The markets on Mexican Grapes are fi nally settling down with much lower prices on Flames and a little stronger prices on Sugarones. California is following suit, but still gets a few dollars more than the imports. Quality from both areas have been very good.

CV CABBAGE There are good supplies of Cabbage from Georgia and North Carolina. Pricing will be lower this week. CV SWEET CORN There are steady supplies of Sweet Corn from Georgia. Pricing will be steady to a tad lower CV EGGPLANT & SQUASH Eggplant, Green Squash, and Yellow Squash supplies are steady. Hard Squash is plentiful. this week. Quality is nice! CV QUEBEC SALAD VEG When freight rates from California are expensive during the middle of the summer, and when it is too hot for local NJ and PA lettuce production so our local growers switch to cooking vegetables that is when Quebec grown salad vegetables are a good quality, affordable alternative. Our Canadian grower is located in the rich soil fl at lands just 15 minutes across the New York and Vermont borders, and their peak season runs from late June through September. Canadian Little Junior Iceberg Lettuce is slated to start at the end of June. Estimated start dates on Quebec Salad Veg: 6/16 Leaf Lettuces and Scallions 6/23 Romaine and Romaine Hearts 6/27 Iceberg Lettuce 7/7 Celery CV LETTUCE Iceberg Lettuce supplies are snug from California. Pricing will be higher this week, but quality is good. Romaine Lettuce from California is steady in price, with tip burn expected. Green and Red Leaf Lettuce from California are more abundant with lower pricing. Romaine, Green Leaf, and Red Leaf Lettuce from NJ are in good supply with lower pricing this week. Canadian product is expected to start within one to two weeks. CV CALIFORNIA PEARS Fresh crop California Pears are right around the corner. The initial harvest date will be early again this year. Crop yield looks like it will mirror the 2015 crop from all major growing districts so supplies will be good from early July through the end of October. Tentative Pack Date by Variety: Red Crimson 7/5 Bartlett 7/8 Organic Bartletts 7/18 Mountain Bartlett 7/25 Bosc 8/1 French Butter 8/22 Seckel 8/22 Comice 8/25 Forelle 8/29 So it s a good time to start thinking about cleaning up those NW Anjou Pears and offshore Pears to make room for your customers favorite Pear!
